Warm Hualian, cold Beefleaf
As usual, sharing the redraw 💪🏽 I like taking old art I’ve drawn and trying again. It’s really fun to see what skills I’ve learned and what has generally stayed the same.
I do wish I went with a more pinkier tone in the 2026 version like how I did back in 2022, but the gold seems to work fine enough 🙂
Yin Yu forced to help his boss look suave for His Highness cause you can't tell me that scene didn't look like HC practiced this 50 times in the mirror
This really happened in TGCF Book 4 trust me
Xie Lian with,, mcr’s Famous Last Words,,, hrmm,,
Au where six and a half years after Shen Qingqiu pushed Luo Binghe into the abyss, a different powerful demon takes over the realm. In exchange for not attacking the sects he demands a treasure from each one. From Huan Hua he takes an ancient amulet, said to carry incredible power. From Zhao Hua Monastery he wishes for knowledge. And From Cang Qiong Mountain Sect, he wants Shen Qingqiu, brought to him to serve as his first husband.
And Shen Qingqiu agrees, after all what use would it be to remain on his mountain, when Binghe will never return to him again? When these mountains will never again hear his laughter echo through them or be lightened by his smile. Luo Binghe died in the abyss and it is his fault. If his body can be used for peace he'll offer it willingly.
His sect siblings watch him go, expecting to hear of his death in only a few months. Shen Qingqiu's heart has been weakened by deep grief for too long, they do not expect him to survive the dangers of the demon realm. To want to survive them. (They had tried to negotiate, to reason with and then beg for the Emperor to choose something different but he refused to reconsider. So away Shen Qingqiu goes.)
When he gets there his husband does not greet him. There is no ceremony, no big reception, no official wedding, nothing. He is simply led to his rooms, guided by the maids of the palace.
The hallways are decorated in extravagant statues, paintings, finely crafted lamps. Shen Qingqiu finds it sickening to look at. How would Luo Binghe have decorated these halls, had he not failed him, had he been able to rise to his full power, to have survived?
He doesn't leave his room, ignoring the soft knocks at his door, the food that is delivered to him by his servants. He stares out at his private garten and refuses to eat. There's nothing to it. No sense.
The garden is flourished with the prettiest of flowers and fauna. Perfect bamboo stalks sprout from the ground, beautifully framing the little pond in the middle. Waterlilies coat the surface. He stares long at the still surface of the quiet water.
The Emperor visits him on what he thinks might be the third day, dressed in dark iridescent robes that flow behind him, giving him an ethereal look. Shen Qingqiu looks at him for a few seconds before his eyes fall back to the pond. He doesn't know what is expected of him and decides to wait him out.
"Does my husband not have anything to say to this Lord?" The man asks after a moment.
"This master was not aware that this arrangement included providing his husband entertainment." He replies in a dry sarcastic tone and does not care about how it might get him into trouble. What use, what use. Luo Binghe is dead. There is no more.
Suddenly he hates the Lord in front him, just a little. For taking him away from home, from the only place Luo Binghe will know where to find him — should he ever return. For having to leave Zheng Yang behind, the last piece of Binghe's soul he could still watch over.
The Lord, his husband now, is silent for a moment before he quietly asks, "What makes my husband unhappy? Tell this Lord, so he may fix it."
Shen Qingqiu is suddenly exhausted. "There is nothing wrong. My chambers are fine, thank you. This husband wishes to be alone."
He doesn't know how much time passes but some while after that his husband softly closes the door on his way out. A bamboo leave slowly falls to the ground. Shen Qingqiu watches and watches. Luo Binghe is dead. Someday that will make sense.
His husband continues to visit him day after day. Each time he brings more beautiful, more elaborate and more expensive gifts. Shen Qingqiu thanks him and sets them down on nearby tables and shelves, not once looking back at them.
(Luo Binghe despairs, what is he doing wrong?! What is wrong with Shizun, why won't he move or smile?! What happened!!)
But over the months Shen Qingqiu opens up more and more, and one day he tells his husband about the disciple he once had, who had lived with him, cooked for him and washed his clothes, whom he loved and cherished, and then killed. Unexpectedly his husband bursts out into tears.
"What's wrong? My Husband, what is wrong?!" He gently takes his husband's face into his hands, swiping at the flood of tears.
"Shen Qingqiu," he sobs, "what would you do, to have him back?"
"Anything," Shen Qingqiu answers immediately, "there's nothing I would not sacrifice, to hold my Binghe once more."
His husband cries and cries and Shen Qingqiu watches in confusion, as slowly his appearance starts to slip. Soft curls replace the shiny hair from before, his dark eyes lighten to a vibrant red and Shen Qingqiu stares as his husband turns into his former disciple.
"Shizun," Luo Binghe whines, alive and warm and there, here in his arms, "please don't hate me."
This is giving me so many brainworms hold on:
I'm picturing that a demonic procession arrives at Cang Qiong to take Shen Qingqiu away and it's the most resplendent thing anyone has ever laid eyes on. The carriage, black wood and red silks highlighted with gold and bright emerald, rides so smooth it feels like its flying. The procession are dressed elegantly and treat Shen Qingqiu with nothing short of respect that borders on reverence (all of them were threatened within an inch of their lives by Luo Binghe that if they treated Shen Qingqiu as anything less than a god, he'd kill them) and is accompanied by armed soldiers to defend it and its precious cargo. Maybe Mobei-Jun is the one in charge of it since Luo Binghe knows him to be competent and too in love with his advisor/spy to pose a threat as a love rival. Also it helps significantly that Mobei-Jun could portal the procession away after collecting Shen Qingqiu and showing themselves off to keep Cang Qiong (namely Liu Qingge) from trying to go with Shen Qingqiu or even try to take him back. As for Shen Qingqiu, he intends to leave with only the robes on his back, the guan on his head, whatever he has in his qiankun sleeves, and Xiu Ya, but of course his disciples pack up almost half the Bamboo House and fill two more trunks with gifts they made for him and send it with him.
What if the System doesn't reactivate itself because Shen Qingqiu isn't looking at or touching Luo Binghe (and what if Luo Binghe doesn't push Shen Qingqiu's boundary and risk making the rift between them deeper)?
What's the Xin Mo situation like? Is Luo Binghe barely keeping his cool as Shizun continues to ignore him, as cold and as impassive as a statue? Does that expression--for all that he can only see part of it as Shizun refuses to turn and face him--remind him of that fateful day that tore them apart? When does he notice through the haze of Xin Mo's influence that something is seriously wrong with Shizun? Probably when he sees that Shizun isn't eating. isn't sleeping. is doing nothing but staring out the window with vacant, sightless eyes. The difference between this Shizun and the Shizun of Luo Binghe's memories is so stark that it breaks through the whispers of Xin Mo telling him that Shizun hates demons so much he would starve himself rather than eat food made by demon hands in their lands. But deep down, Binghe knows that Shizun has a weakness for his food. He's even making identical replications of dishes he's made in the Bamboo House. Nothing. Shizun tears up at the smell but makes no move to eat Luo Binghe's offerings, even turning further away when something smells too familiar. Luo Binghe also knows his Shizun loves his sleep and prefers it amidst many soft pillows and plush mattresses. And yet, the bed Luo Binghe prepared especially for Shizun is clearly untouched, its sheets as crisp and smooth as they were when Luo Binghe made them, not a pillow out of place, and even a thin layer of dust settling atop them. The books and instruments Luo Binghe prepared are similarly ignored. Everything Luo Binghe knows his Shizun loves...none of it touches him with how deeply he's buried his heart (because Shen Qingqiu doesn't know that the one he yearns for so much it is killing him is right beside him, ready and willing to offer the world to him on a silver platter if he only asked).
What if Mu Qingfang is the only Peak Lord who regularly has contact with Shen Qingqiu after he's taken from Cang Qiong (not married to the Demon Emperor because the ceremony didn't happen. And oohh, that must chafe Cang Qiong because without that detail, Shen Qingqiu is no different from the other trinkets the Demon Emperor demanded from the sects) on account of Without A Cure? And Mu Qingfang sees how Shen Qingqiu's already deteriorating condition worsens exponentially. Shen Qingqiu had already been hollowed out by his grief but now...he's like a doll. Each time Mu Qingfang is allowed to visit his shixiong in his new "home" (more a prison, he tries not to think. A gilded cage), Mu Qingfang returns with worse and worse tidings. Hell, even the Demon Emperor is starting to ask Mu Qingfang what could be done to heal Shen Qingqiu and restore his vitality (as if Mu Qingfang hadn't been searching for that very thing himself. But there's only so much the art of medicine can do in this situation. The only solutions Mu Qingfang--the greatest doctor in the world--can think of is either resurrecting Shen Qingqiu's lost disciple or erasing the memory of that same disciple from his mind. Neither are anything approaching ethical for a doctor or a righteous cultivator, but as Shen Qingqiu continues to deteriorate, they become more and more appealing). Oh but of course there's Shang Qinghua, but I can't see him being brave enough to venture to Cucumber Bro's quarters--which are the most heavily defended and fortified part of the whole Underground Palace with an increasingly frantic Binghe pacing around them--terribly often. When he does find the courage, however, his usually fiery and passionate Cucumber Bro is so emotionally hollow that Shang Qinghua thinks him dead the first time he sees him. He doesn't rise to his usual rants anymore either, even when Shang Qinghua deliberately sets him up for one. Cucumber Bro isn't a corpse, but the way he's acting almost makes him indistinguishable from one.
What if the turning point in Shen Qingqiu's relationship with his husband starts to shift is when Shen Qingqiu, weakened from lack of sleep and food, nearly dies in a Without a Cure flare up. While Mu Qingfang is doing his best to continue to medicate Without a Cure from a literal realm away, Shen Qingqiu has functionally lost the will to live and the neglect he's shown himself has upset the fragile balance that's kept him stable. Luo Binghe doesn't even have blood parasites in Shen Qingqiu because he won't fucking eat or drink, so when he finds Shen Qingqiu, he's almost dead. It's only by the grace of the protagonist halo (and Luo Binghe cutting a portal straight to Cang Qiong to snatch Mu Qingfang) that Shen Qingqiu pulls through and survives. Luo Binghe has to carefully nurse Shen Qingqiu back from the brink of death. It takes days, weeks even, for Shen Qingqiu to fully stabilize (as much as he's going to, anyway) and when he finally wakes up again, he wakes to the sight of his demon husband sitting at his bedside with a veritable pharmacy on the table next to him and looking over instructions written in Mu Qingfang's handwriting with a deep focus that is...familiar in a way that aches (but that's just wishful thinking on Shen Qingqiu's part). His husband startles when Shen Qingqiu asks, voice hoarse from days of unconsciousness, why his husband saved him, why his husband wanted Shen Qingqiu above all the wondrous treasures Cang Qiong has in its possession. And Luo Binghe is at first gobsmacked that his beloved Shizun would think so little of himself (because obviously Shizun is a thousand--no a million--times more precious than some ancient magic trinket) to the point that he didn't think he would be saved. Luo Binghe reaches out for Shen Qingqiu's hand where it rests on top of the sheets (the same hand that had been inflicted with that horrid poison to begin with) but pulls back at the last moment, almost afraid to touch Shen Qingqiu. As he did as a disciple, Luo Binghe swears he'll find Shen Qingqiu the cure, even if he has to turn the realms upside down because while Shen Qingqiu may not think himself worth it, his husband is of a different mind. It does little to push through the haze of apathy that Shen Qingqiu wraps himself in as he passively awaits his death, but...the sincerity in those words does stir something. Shen Qingqiu still won't look at his husband directly, but he now holds more conversations and Luo Binghe seizes that forward progress with both hands. (what if after this incident, which Mu Qingfang definitely tells the other Peak Lords about upon his return, is what pushes Liu Qingge to start picking one-v-one fights with the Demon Emperor, fearing that Shen Qingqiu could really die there, away from the Sect, away from his martial siblings, away from him. And Luo Binghe entertains his shishu's bouts, having long outstripped the Bai Zhan War God in raw power, for reasons similar to the ones he may have had when in another world the two of them fought over Shen Qingqiu's corpse rather than the living man: because Luo Binghe also thinks he's failing Shen Qingqiu and thinks he deserves punishment for it.)
These remind me of this drawing by Franz Kafka from the 1900s. We've been feeling this way for a long time.

This is the wrong Cinderella story, mostly because neither of them is poor or in need of saving. But SY is going to spend a very long time believing he's basically this poor wandering warrior's sugar daddy.
