If you have been following the #Gamergate scandal blowing up across the Internet over the last few weeks, you know that it is actually about more than misogyny and unfair treatment of women in the industry. It is a layered issue that started raising questions about ethics in gaming journalism and has expanded to mean different things to different people. However, women within the gaming industry with strong feminist views have become the rallying point and target for some truly disgusting Internet harassment. Any culture that allows, supports, and organizes rape or death threats against women for having an opinion is extremely troubling to say the least. There seems to be something about the shield of anonymity that Internet forums provide that brings out the worst in people. Women like Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian have become targets for hate. No matter what accusations come out against Quinn or Sarkeesian there is absolutely no justification for threatening rape on anyone. Beyond gamergate, these attacks and personal privacy violations have recently become a disturbing global trend. Leaked photos and hacked accounts are the trendiest form of cyber-bullying.                   Â
I know the power of the internet and have seen some awesome things come out of the same channels currently spewing hate. Reddit users rallied to send thousands of birthday cards to a terminally ill 5 year old boy, 4chan organized protests against the insane views of the Westboro Baptist Church and have helped put pedophiles in jail. I have hope that the positive side of anonymous Internet and gaming culture can win out over the bad.                  Â
Happy 4th! Learned how to make a looping gif today!! Lots of fun.Â
Couldn't concentrate on my actual homework last night so I did a quick digital painting of Neil deGrasse Tyson being awesome instead.
Joe Interviews Brian Greene!
Wouldn’t it be cool if you could take courses in spacetime and relativity from a world-famous physicist? And instead of boring lectures, they used flashy animations and you could take the class at home and never put pants on?
This week, physicist Brian Greene launches World Science U, an ambitious new online education portal that he hopes will revolutionize the digital classroom. I sat down with him (on the internet) to talk about special relativity and spacetime (his first two course offerings), why visuals work so well for physics, and whether there’s a parallel universe where people already know all this stuff (spoiler: maybe).
We had a pretty awesome chat, and Dr. Greene answered some tough questions. I don’t want to spoil any more surprises. Just watch it already!

haha my Sagan poster is framed in the background of this video! How random and cool is that?

Thanks for posting this up eatsleepdraw!
Part of an illustration that I am working on for Editorial Painting class. Trying to play around with some texture in my digital paintings.
Triptych about loss and the places where I feel it most. These are places that were important at the beginning, middle and end of my relationship with Danny. He passed away from brain cancer in 2010. I did these last winter but this is the first time I am posting them anywhere. They seemed too personal to share with the internet before. Oil on canvas.Â
I've posted the cropped version of this painting before but I just tried to re-photograph it. This is the full version. Oil on canvas.
