The clash of the bowling bowl hitting the wooden flooring was a sound you had all but grown accustomed to over the past hour, however, one thing you could never get used to was the sound of a perfect tumble of every pin.
L seemed more than amused at your indignant groan but was quick to swap out his grin for a sly smirk the second he saw you reach for the bright pink ball you had been using all night.
"Give it up, darling, you know you can't win."
A scoff left your lips as you walked past him to take your turn, with the tumble of half of the pins falling over only serving to heighten L's amusement.
You, however, couldn't help but let out a small smile as you watched him close off the last round with yet another perfect score.
Sure, you were a little sour about your overwhelming defeat, but that slight annoyance was nothing compared to the pure joy you felt at being able to finally have a real date.
Seeing him so pumped up about getting perfect scores and softly muttering calculations of how you could better your throw was a welcome change after spending days upon days couped up in his office.
Bowling certainly wasn't the first thing on either of your minds, but since everything else seemed to either be too time consuming or boring for someone like L, a friendly competition seemed to be the only thing he was interested in.
Not that you were real competition for him.
Nevertheless, you couldn't help but cheer him on as you watched L return to your seats to swap out the bowling shoes for his normal ones.
The sound of your soft claps echoing around the empty bowling alleys surprised L, but it was the small peck you placed on his lips that seemed to really shock him.
"I've never seen anyone be so happy about losing."
You couldn't help but pout at his words, but chose to hold back from replying as the two of you collected your things and began to leave the alleys to return to the main gaming area of the mall.
It was only when you spotted a family lane of colourful games that you allowed yourself to give in and retort, this time with a soft smile on your lips.
"Fine, if you're such a genius, then why don't you win me a prize?"
You gestured to the claw machines as you spoke, watching as L underwent an internal struggle at your sudden challenge.
He knew you were just being petty and were already aware that he could win you all the toys in those machines without hesitation, but was L really willing to give in and throw his pride aside for a moment or two to entertain your little games?
One look at your poorly-concealed excitement was enough for him to give in and gesture for Watari to get him some tokens for the machines, a sight that had you practically bouncing on the balls of your feel as you once again pulled him along.
L couldn't help but scoff at how you automatically gravitated to the machine with the biggest soft toys knowing they were often scams, but chose not to say anything as he quietly accepted the tokens from Watari and got to work.
You really shouldn't have been surprised to see him so easily grab the plushie and drop it in the box, but you couldn't help but gawk a little as you watched L kneel down to collect the toy and place it in your hands.
You didn't think twice before leaning forward to place a chaste kiss on his lips, one that was slow and sweet and had you leaning in for another small peck before you allowed yourself to pull away.
"Thank you. Not just for the plushie but for coming with me today. I know you don't like leaving your work and bowling definitely isn't your type of scene but-"
You ran your fingers through his long raven hair as you spoke, with a small smile forming on your lips as you watched a soft flush of pink rise to L's cheeks at your sudden affection.
"-I'm glad you came with me today."
You allowed yourself another small kiss before completely pulling away, choosing to drop your hand from his hair to instead hold his hand as you tugged him towards the exit.
However, you were quickly pulled to a stop as L pulled your form back into him, turning to the side to address Watari.
"We'll be staying here for a little longer. Could you return to the office and let the others know I will be indispensable today?"
L didn't even bother to look your way as he spoke, instead looping his arm around your waist to tug you to the main area of the gaming zone.
When you had all but dragged L out of the office that day you had never thought you would get him stay long enough to finish the game, but as you watched him tug you along to the rides section you couldn't help but feel glad that you had decided to take him out that day.
Perhaps, losing at bowling wasn't such a bad thing when you had the world's best detective by your side to make up for it.
