This is why I pay Crunchyroll sixty dollars a year.
Getting your song as the ending theme to a season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is pretty much a badge of honor. You’re part of one of the greatest anime/manga franchises ever, you get money from the use of the license, more people are exposed to your work, and as a result you get more fans and more sales.
Like, how many of us had even heard of Yes and their song “Roundabout” before it was used as the ending to Parts I and II? Now it’s arguably inseparable from the show, and is an iconic theme of the franchise. “Walk Like An Egyptian” hasn’t been relevant in years, but it got renewed popularity with Stardust Crusaders. Hell, after “Last Train Home” was used as Stardust Crusaders’ second ending, the Pat Metheny Group /anticipated/ the surge in popularity and made an introductory/best-of album to introduce fans, even using art from Stardust Crusaders as the cover art.
And just a few days ago, with the broadcast of the second episode of Diamond is Unbreakable, Savage Garden lead singer Darren Hayes openly expressed his thrill on Twitter that new fans were being made of his song “I Want You” and that he was happy to have it as part of the show.
JoJo’s impact as a cultural phenomenon is reaching to areas outside of the typical anime/manga niche. It’s a fascinating event that I’m interested in seeing evolve as further seasons inevitably get produced.
Turns out Darren Hayes has seen some of jojo! That’s really cool!
