This Week in Music
(pic unrelated)
I just wanted to take a moment to point out some of the awesomeness occuring in the music world as of late. Not only hath the ever great Tenacious D returned triumphantly with a new single and album tease, but so has Sigur Ros. Sure, they're pretty much polar opposites in the spectrum of rock, but I'm stil giddy like a school girl. Apart from that, the Winter Music Conference and all the other shenanigans in Miami have been proving quite amazing as always with the leaks of singles from Alesso, Skralloux, etc. Also, Deadmau5 bitching out Madonna? For word.
The End.
Chowin time. Noms.
Friends, by clicking the image above (OR THIS TEXT) - you can check out the soundtrack my short film The External World! As you probably know - music and sound was a huge component of this film and I’m really glad it’s finally available for you guys. All of the tracks were written and recorded by the brilliant Bram Meindersma (who also did music for Please Say Something, Octocat & Genki).
This is just... just... just download the shit and watch the film. Your brain will melt. The end.
The Naked & Famous//Young Blood (Futurecop! Remix)
The second I saw this uploaded onto Furutecop!'s soundcloud I knew it would be fantastic. I'm barely even done listening to the song as I'm posting this. This is more than a simple remix, more of a recontextualization if you will, which builds and teases you until about 2:40. After that I cannot speak for everyone, but I'd be prepared for a certain amount of brain residue to end up on your wall after the inevitable mind shattering awesomeness. Seriously, listen to this now.
Diplo//Bird Is The Word
Not much needs to be said here. Diplo, done it again. Shake that bear.
Get it free HURR.
I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER
Dear god this is fantastic.
Nick Thayer//Totalitaria
Hence comes the latest release from the OWSLA team, and I have to say it does not disappoint. I've come to expect at least one thing from that label, ear smashing sounds. What I hadn't initially realized was the diversity of artists that they had under their belt. Mr. Thayer's sound is admittedly similar to obvious previous acts, but it has a special spin to it that makes it seem all the more party friendly due to a greater hip-hop/turntableism influence. Looking forward to seeing this Aussie progress into a well known, raging staple.
dyoh hoh hoh ho. I am excite.
FM Attack//Dreamer
Random Spotify discovery on this one. Finally been able to explore more of the more contemporary Nu Wave acts thanks to the related artists function. Not too much going on with this track. Just the perfect amount of retro synth-pop and minimal vocals to make you feel like you're on a long night ride, nostalgic of relationships past. I'm off to art history in a little while. Can't help but say "Happy Monday" to everyone just as John Michael Warner would.
Jay Z//Hello Brooklyn
Wanted to take a moment to highlight the awesomeness that is this typographic animation. Personally I've been a little sick of Jay Z after the Watch the Throne fiasco but this track mised with stunning visuals really thows me back to a time where I was 'Big Pimpin' and spending G's... or is it cheese?
Also for anyone who'd like to see how this fantastic work of art was made, check out the making of video below for a nice montage of all the photoshop and after effects done on this project.

Case and point why Rhianna is a terrible performer, and an overal no talent slag who relies on pitch correction plug-ins and irrelevant song features. Fuckin' Slag.

Laurie Anderson//O Superman
Classified as both song, as well as video/performance art. This woman is truly incredible with her experimentation. The vocal sampling reminds me of the fast and sporadic sampling of Jonsi in more recent times. I really wish someone would give this song a fresh update with more synth poppy radness. Oh well, perhaps I shall have to do it myself.
Kids Bop 21 is out.
And the world moved on as it should.
