A lot has happened since we started this lil blog. We graduated, we stopped being able to write for free, we even stopped wearing makeup. Unfortunately - neither of us can commit to writing that doesn’t pay.

Guys. Guysguysguysguys. 

I found my power nude. I have found my version of Kylie’s famous M.A.C. Twig. I can swipe it on and feel put together and more like myself in an instant, which is terrifically convenient because it’s spring right now which is my version of the New Year and it’s when I press restart on everything and pull up some hard questions for myself. I made a list of my current priorities and I’m feeling very💆but that’s fine because plans make me feel high in a way that only lipstick and birthday cake donuts can. 

I never truly understood “nude” lipstick until I tried to shift my lens from the gross tan colour that I thought was nude. Say no to beige, kids. A good nude lip should be a couple shades darker than your natural lip colour and it should reflect the undertones in your skin. My skin has neutral to warm undertones with weird quirks like blue visible veins - which means that finding a tone that suited all the different tones in my skin was hard enough. This is why colour theory matters and why I remain evangelical about finding which shades suit you best. This isn’t about getting your colours done by Aunt Martha in the living room - it’s about understanding the material realities of your skintone and working with that. 

The formula is superb - it just feels lovely on my lips in a way that I never knew a matte could feel. The waxes are supple enough that I don’t feel like I’ve got UN-levels of desertification going on in my lip area. This shade also goes with everything I wear in the darker months and I feel comfortable wearing it day and night. The case is half the fun too, though I have to remember to screw the top on properly or else it comes off in my purse and I’m not neat enough to keep an in-bag environment free of crumbs or starbucks napkins of questionable age.

Can you recommend a blue lipstick and a blue liquid eyeliner?

Sure! Here are some brands that have good matte lipsticks in various shades: Inglot, NYX, Ka’Oir, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. 

As for liner: Stila, Essence, Urban Decay, Rimmel, M.A.C., Makeup Forever. Liner is always hard for me because there’s so much variety and like, how am I supposed to know whether or not it’s any good? Just look at what’s working for you now in your liner department and extrapolate from there.

Hello favourite beauty blog! I need to get eyeshadow primer -- no idea where to start or what to look for. Do you guys by chance have a drug store brand to recommend? Or even a quality to look for in them? My plan was originally to just buy the first one I find in Shoppers, but then thought that might be setting myself up for disappointment.

Right! 

I am assuming that your eyeshadow/liner migrates throughout the day. I am not about that life at all, because I like my makeup like I like my phone charger - in the same place I left it. I’ve found the best solution though, setting powder under and around the eye area. But that wasn’t your question. 

I like NYX a lot, and their base products tend to perform as well as their colour products. I haven’t used it, but I say it’s the safest bet at the drugstore level.
