Putting a pause on my usual posting to comment on a situation that is happening in my country.
Today, a group of four people completed a series of attacks on mosques over a city that so far have taken the lives of about 40 people, with more still injured. They entered mosques during Friday prayer and basically began shooting people.
For my country, this is an utter shock. We are a fair accepting and liberal country. First to give women the vote. One of the first to accept same sex marriages. Comprised of a highly multicultural demographic and generally supportive of immigration and refugees. An honest, trustworthy and reliable government and police force. Laws and regulations on firearm ownership. To hear that this has happened to us in such a systematic and targeted way is very hard to comprehend.
The disgusting thing is one of the terrorists live streamed the event. He literally placed footage of himself slaughtering people on the internet for others to see. This is currently doing the rounds on social media sites such as Facebook. After looking in the New Zealand tag on tumblr, I have already found two posts with screenshots of this.
PLEASE DO NOT WATCH THIS FOOTAGE. Please do not give any power to the disgusting people who have caused my nation to loose it’s innocence and caused harm and hurt to the victims of this tragedy. The victims and their families deserve more respect.
