suki watched attentively how the arrows accelerated until they severed the targets with an abrupt stop. the woods were quiet, dark and damp, not quite like those she witnessed somewhat absently, back home. those trees seemed to bend painfully towards the sun, water whispered and hissed warmly, and she felt like they were both intruding and about to suffer from the consequences. nonetheless, she longed to try archery. usually she would be practicing kyoshi style fighting, she would be up early and taking care of her warrior of a body. though, merida and her had tried climbing in the mountains a week prior this moment, and suki had slipped on her robes, tumbling, tumbling in a vertiginous darkness until her leg snapped and she woke up in a trembling bed. they had put a cast on her limb and could not move as freely as she should. today, though, merida has finally succumbed to her pleading. the archer supporting her as they had deepened themselves in the sublime landscape. after a few minutes they had halted, and thus suki sat on a large, clean rock, observing merida's technique with longing and attention. she wished to recreate the movement and be decent at this skill. ❝ ...can i try? ❞

suki appeases her mind so she can listen carefully; leaving the space blank so it might be tainted with ideas and colors. this individual is quite precise, she concludes. what had instigated such scenario? why demand her, who had only encountered guards for a short period of time? of course, they were all arrogant in some way, however some of them seemed to have grown a decent conscience. though some of them did play with their incarcerations because they felt weak and naked and bare ——— because they couldn’t handle life, thus battered prisoners even more vulnerable than them. what they were unaware of was that they couldn’t escape life, though she could escape them… and she would greatly reciprocate their cruelty once it didn’t threaten her comfort. she could be twice as dreadful as her lively companion. now she wondered, if they sung such song, would she act upon it? suki would mind not, for if infiltrated in the fire nation she would loathe to attract attention for a dumb melody. though what would be her immediate thoughts? would she succumb to their mirth as they crushed villages after villages; as they murdered children and took mothers and fathers, as they burned all that didn’t quite fit with their ideals. and they didn’t start the fire? what morons were they, if they thought they weren’t responsible for this chaos, for this wild fire. in a very plain way they were right; but contrarily to other elements, fire had to be maintained. they were the maintenance, the oil, the wood, the burned. they were as ravenous as the firelord and they adored it. suki would be sick of their attitudes, of their superiority. but what could she do about a stupid song and even stupider masses?
