â Two seventeen ââ not that late. â Sebastian dropped his cellphone into the main compartment of his backpack, pulling the zipper shut and slinging the canvas bag over one shoulder as he stood up from his spot on the damp, patchy cemetery grass. A waxing gibbous dangled unobstructed in the sky like the central candle of some cosmic chandelier, effortlessly outshining all its secondary illumination even at a fraction of its maximum potential. As he righted himself, he turned his gaze towards the cloudless, starless sky, focusing momentarily on the partial bulb which radiated cool, pleasant beams and cast gradually lengthening shadows on the opposite side of every tombstone dotting the knoll. The atmosphere and the visit in its entirety had been exceptionally conducive to a sense of ataraxia which was foreign to Sebastian; he was reluctant to accept its end.·â If youâd hurry up, weâd make it to Dennyâs before sunrise. â he grumbled, tone characteristically snotty and not at all suggestive of how truly pleased he was with simply being here, and being here with her.·
âof course not. the fun has just begun. iâd be surprised if you said otherwise.â not bothering to even look up at the other, she focused on how she carried herself. weaving through grave after grave, one would assume she was one with the dead; pale skin and cerise lips made her appear ethereal among those who were six feet under. âkim jongsuk. born 1909, died 1934. oh, poor soul...he was so young when he died...â often times when she found herself roaming in the land of those who passed, she would take the time to read their tombstones. it was the most she could do to commemorate them. in the distance, sebastian could be heard once more and his words made her suck her teeth. âpatience is a virtue. besides, i donât just come here to play around. i come here to remember these who passed. each and every person here had a story, from birth until death, their heart beat.â standing up slowly, she smoothed off her knees from any excess grass that stuck to them and made her way over to sebastian with lips pursed. âletâs go to dennyâs before you throw a hissy fit. iâm sure the dead could forgive you.â making no move to ask him to follow her, she shoved her hands into her pockets and walked towards the gate they had hopped over. âlook up my skirt and iâll gouge your eyes out.â
