Le foglie cadono ogni autunno, e soltanto perché non sei un sempreverde – soltanto perché anche tu sfiorisci, mentre altri riescono a non farlo – non vuol dire che tu sia sbagliato e che sia tutto finito. Va bene cadere. Va bene. Quando arriveranno quei giorni, ricorda le cose per cui vale la pena andare avanti, qualsiasi piccola cosa – il prossimo film in uscita, un amico che ti invita a uscire, il libro che non hai ancora letto. Ricorda che tutto prima o poi finisce, che il sipario prima o poi deve sempre calare su tutto. Lascialo calare sulle amicizie finite, sugli amori passati, sulla tristezza che ti stringe la gola, sulle cattiverie che ti hanno detto, sui tuoi sbagli, sui rimpianti, sulle parole che non avresti dovuto pronunciare, su tutte quelle piccole cose che ti pesano sulle spalle come macigni. I made this comic in 2020, when it had been seven months since my partner and I had been able to see each other. It’s 2023 now and once again it’s been seven months, and I’m thinking about portals that let us hold hands.

My 13 year old cousin came back from a date with her boyfriend and said, "I can't wait to grow up and spend sunday afternoons with him." At first, I wanted to laugh (after all they're just 13), but I remember being 13 and having the world in my hands. I remember getting excited to talk to someone about my dreams and wishes, and how happy these daydreams and fantasies made me. There's this innocence you can only have at 13 and the world rises and falls and crashes and burns every year... until you do not think about quiet sunday afternoons.
So I asked her about the date and heard her giggle about bubblegum flavored ice cream, and how much she loves this little life. I think she makes me love it too.
