he laments the reality in which sins committed by men who are no longer capable of bearing them fall to a girl who had no part in them. he has long since matured from the sheltered youth in exile he once was. his world extends beyond the breadth of one small town and he stands a leader in his own right, but a true conqueror he will never be.
there are private wars waged in julia’s heart that seliph knows cannot be subdued by the sword. inwardly it pains him to think he has failed her in any way— that even within an arm’s length of distance he may not be able to reach her or some outside force could spirit her away again in a moment’s notice.
“ i’m sorry for neglecting you. ” it’s the most honest response he can muster, spoken in an immaculate calm. she is dear to him and her feelings should be prioritized above any guilt that nags at him. “ if there are any misunderstandings on my part, i urge you to correct me. i fear i may still be naive, but i will spare no efforts in trying to understand your heart because… you’re important to me. ” his hand curls in on itself to prevent him from unceremoniously reaching for her. julia, so brave and wise beyond her years, never demands the apologies she deserves. she never asks seliph to be more than he is: an ideal, a monarch, his father. the least he can offer in return is reciprocation for her continued support.
