They probably thought you two were a rescue team/explorer team. There have been humans transformed into Pokémon before being sent to a world of only Pokémon. This has been happening sometimes. Whenever a human is summoned, that usually means that the world is in danger. The humans who have been summoned would meet a Pokémon and form a team with them, whether it's a rescue team or an explorer's team. Rescue teams rescue Pokémon that are in trouble, while explorers explore locations whether near or far.

Leif: Oh! I used to love a show like that, about this famous trainer that was very good at battling, but was very cruel to his pokemon team.

He stumbles into a powerful pokemon that sees how he treats his team, so it decides to teach him a lesson by-

...turning him into a pokemon.

Hey Taro, f you need to get into human spaces, why not just illusion yourself into looking human? You could even pass Leif off as your pet/partner!

Taro: Human essence is so different from a pokemon's. It requires a lot more concentration and energy to disguise as one, so I can't really do it for long.

Calling Leif my pokemon would be funny though, I'll keep that idea for later.

Hey Leif, how does it feel being a pokemon and eevee at that? Must be pretty disorienting right?

Leif: Disorienting is a good way to put it. No hands, walking on all fours, it all feels... off. The weirdest thing is my senses; I can hear, see and smell a lot more things now. You'd think that'd be good, but it feels like I'm constantly on high alert.

It's not all bad though. Being able to properly talk with Taro is...
