honestly the “talking stage” in gen z dating culture has ruined so much of the mystery and thrill associated with the development of budding relationships

especially this expectation that you need to be talking to someone all day every day in order to build a connection otherwise its a “red flag” or a sign of avoidance

(not gonna reblog from the person because the rest of the post was rude and they called me “neurotypical” when this opinion was actually heavily informed by the fact that having adhd/ocd makes constant texting with new people very hard but anyway) spend 10 minutes on instagram or tiktok and you will see that the extreme mental gymnastics associated with the talking stage is probably the farthest thing from “clear communication” imaginable… no i do not want to spend my entire day talking to someone who is hyper-analyzing my response times or critiquing the tone and length of my texts as a means of psychically gauging my potential interest or latent intentions in real life…the whole “if he hasnt responded in an hour he is not actually busy he is avoiding you” type shit is literally magical thinking at its most benign and at its worst is destroying your ability to form organic connections … i miss the times when it was a common sentiment that expecting a potential partner to have 24/7 access to you was unrealistic and overbearing
