2011
2011.
After 4 years of living bicoastally in NY and LA, I finally moved to NY indefinitely.
Moved to Brooklyn after I said I would never live in Brooklyn (while I was living in Manhattan).
Left a job I loved to rediscover myself and find out what else is out there for me.
Luckily found a new job but the verdict is still out out whether I'm doing what I'm really supposed to be doing.
Change is good. I think it's what pushes us to attain the very best person we can be. What's comfortable becomes boring and the excitement of the unknown attracts us to leave our familiar cave. LA will always be my home. My unknown was my future in New York. Imagine looking for a job while also apartment hunting. Why I decided to take on all of these major changes in my life in the span of two months, I'll never know. People, it's true what they say, it's easier to find a job, when you HAVE a job. Easier for you because you experience less of a mental and emotional rollercoaster ride. This craziness started 6 months ago. After leaving my job in July, I took on a temp position in September. The pay as a temp was a rude awakening. The job is crazy but it does keep me on my toes! I stuck with it though and proved myself to be an asset to my department. Just last week the company hired me officially. Six months ago I was living on my current roommate's couch for two months and had no job. I beat myself up every day about what I was doing with my life and career. Four months ago I found my dream apartment with my roommates in a neighborhood I'm in love with. Today, I'm happy. I just have to remind myself that change isn't easy! There are going to be hurdles and challenges. It's about persistence and remembering what you're really after. I wanted a stable life that no longer involved moving back and forth between two coasts. I wanted a challenging job in an industry I'm interested in. And, ultimately, I wanted a new adventure. What a tremendous feeling to find myself in NY today, employed, and living in my new favorite neighborhood. You can call it luck, but I like to think I had something to do with making this happen. What's left? Looking into 2012 resolutions of course..
