The early stages of hard work and focus feel like agitation, resistance, friction and stress.
None of us will walk into the gym and bench five and expect a set of abs, it doesn't work like that. Likewise, the brain needs warm up and training, and the first few days feel like fighting down a mountain and you perform WORSE than when you weren't trying.
It gets better. Think of neuroplastocity as a muscle you're training. You won't be able to lift 500 in your first day but with time, say, months, you will, or at least get as close as possible which is far from your starting point.
None of us will decide okayyy I'm gonna be focused and write 586699 words of our essay that's not how it works. You don't decide how your brain will work and it goes scrambling. It takes patience and God the first two weeks will fuck you up. Bad. But it gets better and soon, soon you don't have to put in conscious effort, it just happens. Neuroplasticity + free will is the human superpower, you can literally change your brain just because you want to.
Next time you decide to focus and crash don't think man I suck at this- of course you do. Think I've put two full minutes into training my brain and if I put two minutes an hour that's 48 minutes a day that's 5 hours a week that's 60 hours a month. Don't chastise yourself for not walking out of the gym without abs on the first day. Make a plan, a routine, trust the process
