the camera was propped up against matt’s mug of tea that had gone cold in the time it took to set everything up for the video you had asked him to film with you.
he sat on the couch in your living room with your cat sprawled across his lap. his eyes bright with curiosity in what you had planned. you never asked to film with him, always saying that you enjoyed your privacy.
but the rare times you asked to film made him so, extremely excited that he always found himself saying yes without even asking what you had in mind.
you plopped yourself into the cushion next to him with two sonny angels boxes in your hands before handing one over to him with a soft smile.
“really? we’re filming an unboxing video?” he asked, softly laughing in disbelief as he examined the small colorful box in his right hand while his left carefully stroked your cats back.
“yes! they’re trendy,” you giggled as you leaned forward to press the record button on your phone.
the countdown began immediately after your finger left the button, with your screen flashing with a big 3, 2, 1 before the it began recording.
“hi everyone! today we are going to open sonny angel blind boxes!” you beamed at the camera while bringing the box into frame to show it to the camera.
“oh, i almost forgot. i know you guys already know him, but i’m here with my current boyfriend, matt, to open some with me,” you smiled wider, hoping that it would mask the laugh you were desperately trying to hold in.
matt’s head jerked back in confusion with his lips formed in an awkward smile and his eyes glaring at you from the side. “current?” he asked, awkwardly laughing.
“huh?” you turned your head to look at him, feigning innocence.
“you said current,” he scratched his head, completely forgetting that there was a camera recording the entire ordeal.
it was getting harder and harder to hold in your laughter, but you tried regardless of the challenge.
“well, yeah. you’re my current boyfriend. like, we are currently dating,” you softly laughed, enunciating the current before turning your attention back to the camera and lifting the box once more. “okay, so, i want—“ you began before matt cut you off.
“okay, but when you say it like that it sounds like we’re gonna break up or, like, you don’t see us together in the future, or something like that,” he rambled, slouching in his seat.
“you saying current. it sounds like you’re planning to get with someone else in the near future,” he sighed before glancing at the camera. “okay, why are you still filming this?”
you glanced at the camera and made eye contact with him through the screen before bursting into laughter at how confused and hurt he looked.
“what? what’s funny?” he asked, sitting up straighter. “bro, is this a prank? is this deadass a joke?”
you laughed even harder as you nodded your head, falling back into the couch as you fought hard to catch your breath.
“jesus christ. and here i thought that you were foreshadowing our breakup,” he said, sighing in relief.
“you should have seen your face,” you said in between fits of laughter.
matt playfully rolled his eyes before kissing your cheek, “okay, are we recording this or what? the real video too, by the way. not a prank.”
