030618: New favorite study playlist
I just finished watching this movie for the second time. It is *one* of the only superhero movies I like, and the soundtrack is pretty amazing! Perfect for studying during nursing school, right?

It was a very smiley day :)

190518: Bullet journal spread ft. my Bible and quiet time journal
I think I’ve found my spread! Of all the spreads I have tried so far (a fair handful), this one seems to be the best for me. Next week’s is very similar, but I fixed a couple errors such as Wednesday having one less column of boxes than the rest. The half hour intervals work wonderfully for me.
I’m ecstatic about bullet journaling after months without it (I was using a planner instead). It takes quite a bit of time for me normally to create each spread. I didn’t feel as though I had enough time to with all my work and was quite overwhelmed. Now that summer is here, I will have more time (and better time management skills, as well) and the perfect spread for me which doesn’t take forever and a day to finish. I am going to be so ready and organized (fingers crossed) for my first semester of nursing.
Who else uses a bullet journal or planner?
Xoxo, Holly
P.s. I am using a northbooks a6 dotted journal
My #1 Productivity Tip
I like to use different techniques to get things done, such as to do lists and a bullet journal. But there’s one method that I find to be above all the others, because it makes you spend your time as wisely as possible, but it also keeps things interesting. And it’s super simple.
In the morning, I create a very detailed schedule that includes everything I should do that day, without leaving any time unscheduled: work, cleaning, break time, sending that one email or organising my desk. One thing per line, in one certain time frame. And then, I cover the list with a paper, showing the next item only when it’s time to start it.
This way, I’m not daunted by the amount of work I should do that day: instead, I only know what’s gonna happen for the next 30 minutes or so and it’s easy to consent to that. There’s always a chance of the next thing on the list being something really easy or fun.
How to make it work:
Make it managable: Harder things, such as writing an essay, are cut into managable pieces of maybe 30 or 60 minutes, but they occur several times in the day. That way you can work on the hard stuff for hours, but it doesn’t get overwhelming.
Have many things on your list: There needs to be so many things to do (or fewer things cut into smaller pieces) that you can’t remember what things and in what order you’re supposed to do. This keeps it exciting: you may be writing a difficult essay now, but in 25 minutes you might have that break or take a shower.
Keep it fun: In addition to the important and difficult things you need to get done, you should also add fun things in your day, to keep yourself happy and energetic. Breaks are also important in case one of the things on your list takes a bit longer than expected, because you can use them to finish the task that was left unfinished when something unexpected happened.
Be tough on yourself: The system doesn’t work and you can’t trust in it yourself, if you let yourself slip. You can only do the thing listed for that time frame. If your mom calls when your working, you need to make up for the time missed; talking does not count for writing.
Make sure your day is in balance: Working for too long on something difficult makes you tired and your efficiency drops. Instead, distribute it throughout the day and add something fun or easy here and there.
+ If you ever wanted to learn French or go to the gym more often, here’s your chance: when it’s on the list, you can’t skip it.
WHEN IT'S ON THE LIST, YOU CAN'T SKIP IT.
180518: Life Update
•Final exam week wrapped up two weeks ago and I already miss having classes even though I couldn't stand to go to class by the end of the semester. Go figure. I am fairly happy with my final grades for the term. I received A's in sociology and popular culture, an A- in ethics in healthcare, a B+ in photography, and a C+ in English. I'll take it.
•The first day of finals I received my letter of acceptance into the nursing program where I applied! I start the 27th of August 2018, and my orientation and CPR certification class is the 1st of June. I will be at school for 9 hours that day 😳 but I'm also very excited! 😄 I'm gonna be a nurse! Woohoo!
•In three short weeks, I am flying to Virginia to visit my friends and family during my last summer (there are no summer breaks once you get into the nursing program at my school). I am so excited to see them but will also miss all my friends at home while I'm gone.
•I need a new car. Mine is falling to pieces. Literally. Halp!
•Also, nursing school is expensive and I don't know how I am going to have the 💰 to pay for my books and car and other necessities like food. One of my books alone costs $900. HALP!
but I know that everything is going to work out, and I am going to love, love, love school!
Join me on this adventure!
Xoxo, Holly
Why does being in your early 20s feel so much like only having 5 years of your life left in which you need to achieve as much as possible? why do I feel like I have an approaching deadline for success?
010218:
Today I was complimented on my mind maps for pop culture by a random professor that was walking by and happened to see them as I was reviewing. He told me it was good work. What a mental boost right before my exam!
In other news, the 100 days if productivity is much more difficult for me to keep up with than I thought it would be. I have been productive almost every day with my school work but just haven't documented it. As long as I am continuing to be productive, I guess that's all that matters.
Will show my mind maps tomorrow when I have better light for photos.
Xoxo, Holly
I cannot stress this enough- Build a routine. Build Habits. Wake up every day and get used to being productive, one day at a time. Do this for long enough and eventually you’ll be at your goal without even realising it.
You can’t get much done in life if you only work on days when you feel good.

110118: 4/100 days of productivity Today was a great day full of productivity! I had two classes, photography and pop culture, which went well. After class I went to the Secretary of State to renew my license plate and license as I am turning 21 in a few short and busy weeks (!), visited my sister and nieces for a bit, bought some stationary bits I need for class, picked up my car from the shop, and tried mind mapping my notes for the very first time. As you can see, it is very messy and only in pencil... I hope that I will get better and have the courage to do it in pen the first time around someday! Now I'm tired and want to sleep for days. Xo, Holly
100118: 3/100 days of productivity One of my favorite things about the beginning of a new semester is how empty the library is ^.^ It's only day three of the semester, but I got a jump start on my reading. So. Much. Reading. Today was sociology, ethics, and pop culture. Xo, Holly P.S. will work on taking better photos
090118: 2/100 days of productivity My desk is a mess and so is my hair; an actual thing I said today. Both of which are doing much better now. After cleaning up my desk, I put away clean laundry that had been sitting in a basket for 5 days and planned for tomorrow's study block. My classes are heavy on the reading, but I love reading, and I am looking forward to it. I didn't actually get a photo of anything today, so please enjoy this reminder to myself that I've taped on the wall over my desk. Facts over feelings. Xo, Holly
080118: First day of the new semester! And 1/100 days of productivity
My word of the semester is FOCUS. Focus on what is in front of me at. Focus when I need to be studying. Focus in class. Focus on the good. It is so easy for me to get distracted on what is causing me stress instead of focusing on persevering through the difficult times.
This is my craziest semester yet, so I need to be focused and disciplined more than ever before. Goals are attainable if you are willing to do the work.
Xo, Holly
What to Expect:
Hello!
As a fairly new studyblr, I thought I would do an introductory post of sorts.
My name is Holly, and I am a sophomore at a fairly small university in the United States. I am a pre-nursing student applying for the nursing program in March. After finishing here, I have hopes of getting my master’s with a concentration in midwifery at the University of the West of Scotland.
I may decide to work for a few years before getting my master’s to lower my student loans before adding more to them and for the experience. I shall see. I still have a few years to decide.
This is a sideblog that I started to get me motivated, be disciplined, and learn how to study effectively. In an effort to do this, I plan on posting:
100 days of productivity, this will cover my entire spring semester starting today
updates on my nursing application process
updates on classes I’m taking: pop culture, advanced composition, ethics in healthcare, photography, marriage and the family for Spring 2018
anything else study/college related
and photos of it all
I’m hoping that this blog will help me stay accountable when it comes to my student life and classes. Aiming for A’s!
Xo, Holly
060118: The new semester starts Monday…
…and I, previously excited and ready for a fresh start, am now dreading it. And it’s not even the long days, exams, or anything college related that I’m dreading. It’s that my car just broke down, I have no way of getting it fixed at the moment, and I need my vehicle every. single. day. of. the. week. This is by far my busiest semester yet.
My grandma has offered me her car to get to and from school but there are a couple problems with that also.
Her vehicle has to be taken to get the tires and oil checked/fixed.
My grandma often has her own appointments to get to, and she takes my great grandma to hers half the time.
My parking permit only allows for me to park my vehicle on campus. The sticker is not transferable. In order to park her or any other vehicle, I would have to fork over another $100 per sticker. My school does not even offer a discount for buying more than one.
My car not working now is the worst possible timing. And if I have to buy a new car, I won’t have money for groceries. I’m kinda in a pickle. But hey, these are the years of no money and sacrifice, stress and hope for better days, right? I don’t know.
