The relief that washed over him when Viktor assured him that they shared the blame for the demise they had brought over themselves. One problem solved another rose and he looked down at them, wearing something that resembled their outfits from the world they had just escaped from. Jayce wore his tight green fit and Viktor the remains of the blanket he had wrapped around him what felt like eons ago. “Can you stand up?”, he wondered, as he was getting up on his own feet, holding out a hand for Viktor. He noticed the leg brace on his own leg was gone and yet he could shift his weight on it without any pain. Perhaps Viktor got just as lucky. Sure, he said he loved him with all his imperfections, but he still wished for his partner to live life to the fullest and not with chronic pain.

Viktor hadn't even registered that he was not wearing any clothing whatsoever. Just the old blanket-turned cloak that was wrapped around him. "I think so.." he moved to try and get up, using Jayce's hand to assist. He was expecting pain or some struggle, but it was surprisingly easy to get back onto his own two feet. He stares down at his legs for a moment, as if surprised they hadn't tried to give out on him, before looking at Jayce with a smile.

"I do not believe we will be having anymore problems," he states, gripping Jayce's hand in his own, "Though, I do believe we could both use an outfit change."

Even though he had witnessed the healing of his own broken limb, Jayce looked quite surprised to see Viktor standing up so effortlessly. He was happy for him though, stroking the back of Viktors hand with a warm smile on his own lips. Then his gaze wandered over Viktors outfit. “Say… IsIs that the blanket from the lab?”, he wondered a bit amused that he had kept it. Then his gaze wandered around through the ally to the main street. “We don't have any money. Do you just wanna steal some off a windowsims, or what exactly is your plan?”

Goal oriented, he walked confidently over to the desk and grabbed his notebook. They had brought all he could savage from his apartment here already, plus the equipment that was held under lock and key in Heimerdinger’s office. “We are feeling fantastic of course.”, he indulge in the bickering and gentle teasing, not without rolling his eyes however when being called by his last name. A smirk tugging on his lips regardless as he chuck his dead. “Don’t you worry. We will burn bright.”, he tried to jump on that comparison before his free hand finds itself on Viktors shoulder once more, smile brightening as well as he spoke of “our future”, as if it was set in stone already that nothing would come in between them and their new formed alliance. His gaze lingered perhaps a little too long on the soft features of his lab partner, the hand on Viktor’s shoulder squeezing it gently, before Jayce nodded and turned to their research. 

“Now that we figured out how to channel the energy of the crystals, let's see how we could use that on a larger scale. Imagine how useful it could become for transport, for trade. Piltover could reach people all around the globe and we could aid so many.”

Oh, and he did feel fantastic. Without his help, Jayce could have never pulled this off. He would have been shunned from the academy and forced to live with his mother. Viktor couldn't let that go to waste. A brilliant mind who was onto something. Handsome and strong... But that was beside the point.

Electricity ran over his spine from the spot where Jayce placed his hand, making his heart beat like a racing rabbit. That smile could win about everyone over, surely. No, nothing could come between their new formed alliance. Viktor needed him to move all of this forward and Jayce needed him as well.

Crimson painted his cheeks when their eyes lingered perhaps a little too long, then cleared his throat and returned to their research.

"That is quite an increase in scale, Jayce. We cannot just go from this size to something where vehicles could fit through. We have to calculate it carefully because I don't think that multiplying this in it's entirety would work so well, we could make it unstable again. Smaller steps. We double the size each time, stabilize it and repeat till we have something safe."

He scoffs amused and gives Viktor yet another grin as his new partner is scolding him for dreaming too big. “Of course we will start small. Like you say, one step after another.” He thinks it's funny that the man who told him not to ask for permission when changing the world, is now the one concerned about safety. But he for sure was not planning to go right to human trials. No, a lot of theory was necessary beforehand. So he walked over to the chalkboard with the notes in hand and tried to upscale it tlcrom the size of the gear to the one of a coffee mug. “Baby steps. I promise.”

He watches him, thinking for only a moment, before smiling. "Of course, Jayce. We are in this together, by both our foolishness, I suppose." It would still be hard not to take all of the blame for this.

"First thing's first, however, we should figure out this place and where we can stay. After everything..." He was feeling a bit tired. He hadn't realized how exhausting all of that had been until this moment.

Breathe in...

There's a weight in his chest he never noticed before. It tastes... Metallic. Perhaps that's not unexpected. He did just leave the hospital, after all.

Breathe out...

Now that he knows there's something else wrong, he can't help making observations about it. He doesn't remember it being so hard to breathe in the labs before. Thinking back on walking behind Heimerdinger, Viktor remembered it was easier, even as he carried around stacks of paper and loose books. It was easier to breathe, even on the walk back home to Zaun. It was easier, even breathing in the smell of Jayce after he'd freshly showered — and it was hard dro just breathe when he came walking by, wet, half dressed and smiling bright (but brighter for her).

Viktor had been thinking of this a lot.

The time to test Hextech and it's capabilities was now, of ever. Still, Viktor found himself alone in the labs, sighing heavy and breathing deep.

In.

Out.

He sounded ridiculous. And should probably stop before he fainted.

When he was first suggested as a new member of the council, Jayce was overwhelmed. He is a passionate scientist, not a politician. He had no clue what he got himself into till it already was too late. Under the disguise of doing it all in the name of their hextech dream, he let Mel teach and form him into the tool of her endeavors, playing his little part quite perfectly so.

Who would have guessed being a counselor was such a time consuming job?  

His thoughts were with Viktor, but his body was far away from the lab most days now. So when he entered it again today, it almost felt foreign to him, unsure how much time he could even offer his partner today and already prepared for Viktor’s annoyance with him and his absence. 

“Good morning, Viktor.”, he greeted him, trying to sound too apologetic. He stripped off his coat and rolled up his sleeves before stepping closer to where his partner sat, to evaluate whatever progress Viktor might have made without him so far. “How are we doing?”

There was something very fascinating about the young man. For some reason he was willing to break some rules for him. It must be his mind that intrigued him. What he’d found in Talis’s study, it was absolutely beautiful. Heimerdinger seemed quite worried if they succeeded, but it would all be for nought.

Viktor wasn’t able to sleep. All excited about their new lab and as soon as he could, he could be found right there.

If he’d been beaming, than Jayce Talis was radiating tenfold. It was written all over his face, the language of his body. “I have a feeling you might tell us how we are feeling,” Viktor said, bringing his hand to his mouth, trying to stifle a chuckle. “Careful, Mr. Talis…” He said in a formal, but teasing manner. “It be best not to get too close to the sun too soon. We would not like our wings to burn out before they’ve reached their full potential.”

Silence, just Viktor looking at Jayce before adding. “But yes, I’m very excited about what this could mean for the future, our future.” His future… Viktor needed it to work so he could improve.

He froze in surprise when Jayce's lips touched his own. Not because the gesture was unwelcome, but it was unexpected. His lips had felt warm and soft, if a little dry. He couldn't remember the last time he had felt that. His emotions, his feelings, they had all been off since he merged with the core. But this felt good. It felt right.

Tears slid down his face, staring at Jayce's. They had made it. Where that was did not matter. What mattered was Jayce was here with him. They were together and safe.

A soft smile finally broke the look of surprise as he was pulled close into a tight embrace. His arms came around to wrap him in a tight hug, squeezing him, as if he would disappear at any moment. Like some cruel dream.

A part of him felt undeserving. He felt like Jayce should be here, but he should not. After everything he had done, what had earned him this second chance?

"We're here and we're together.." he whispered to him, "Wherever here is, we'll figure it out together. As partners.."

He had not meant to hurt Jayce with his inquiry, but he couldn't help but think about his sickness. That had been his entire life, forever knowing that it would limit him and kill him. He had been ready to accept it, all the way up until he woke up after the Hexcore fused with him.

Viktor watches as Jayce rolls up his sleeve that shows the healthy, if a bit pale, skin beneath. There was the fleeting thought of what if it was temporary, but he did not voice it. Jayce seemed quite determined to move past that. "When you lost me, hm?" he couldn't help but smile, "I had no idea the brilliant Jayce Talis had thought so dearly of me....Not until you risked yourself. I am very glad you weren't killed or absorbed into my consciousness."

His smile faded a little when Viktor admitted Jayce's deep feelings for him never had been clear to him. Neither had they been for Jayce. He had pushed them aside, claiming for them to be brotherly affection. That it was the touch of a brother that squeezed Viktor's shoulder or lay his hand on his lower back. He forced himself to never think of him in any sinful sense, because what would happen with their life's work and dreams if Viktor was not able to  reciprocate those feelings and they had a falling out? 

“Will you be able to forgive me for my blindness, that I never dared to make it any clearer till it seemed too late?”, he had to ask while gently brushing Viktors sleeve back down, before looking back up in his partner's eyes, his own gaze full of determination. “I promise there will be no more running away from this.”

What a time to not jump off a blown up building. He had a partner now and an investor. It felt so good to have people behind him that believed in him and his vision. Not only did he had one foot in the door with Councelor Medara investing in Hextch, no he also met this bright mind with the piercing gaze and stinging wit. “Viktor.”, he repeated the name of the man that quite literally saved him to himself as he was walking down the corridor to the room that would become their shared laboratory. He was brilliant. With him on his side nothing felt impossible no more. 

So when he finally reached their lab to met him there, Jayce was beaming and quite at awe not just by the looks of the spacious room the academy had granted them due to Medaras sponsorship. “First day of changing the world together. How do we feel?”, he greeted the other, beaming poster boy smile on his face. Jayce for his part was about to burst with energy and excitement.

He had just crawl out of one hell to come back to another. Was this really the time line he originated from? A world in wich noxian soldiers had taken over Piltover and Mel’s mother, Ambessa, had taken the throat so to say. The many life's they had lost on this battle weighted heavy on his consciousness, some more than others and one in particular. He was there when it happened, fighting alongside Piltover’s enforcers to keep the city out of ambessas grasp and yet he had been unable to help. He almost got her, when he turned around, lifting his hammer. But the shook and despair had clouded his senses. He was taken down himself. Now he sat in the academies lab, wishing they would have hit a vital organ of his, instead of just wounding him to drag him back to work. How was he able to create anything, when all that went through his head was an endless loop of guilt tripping for all he had done wrong, all that leaded to this outcome. So when foot steps approached, he didn't even care to look up from the empty paper he was sitting in front of. He knew it was ambessas little lab dog checking on his progress.

Maybe getting a change of scenery would help after all it couldn't hurt to just have a moment away from the lab to not have to think. He closes his note book as he turns his gaze back to chalkbrood for the last time just in case he missed something but sadly there seemed to be nothing new.

Golden gaze then looks up to Jayce as shrugs his shoulders slightly.

"Fresh air might do both of us some good." He agrees it wasn't often he left the lab nowadays before he took this opportunity. "But please no where fancy Jayce." It simply requested he never been one to show his face not since his illness had gotten worse.

A bit of relief mixed in the frustration he felt when Viktor agreed to go out for food. At least they made progress choosing a lunch break. When Viktor s folded him to not pick any place fancy, he couldn't hold back on a chuckle. “I wasn't planning on anything fancy. I was in fact thinking, a street vendor, maybe. Something quick and easy.”, he painted a picture of what he was aiming for when it came to “grabbing lunch” outside of the academy grounds. “What are you in the mood for, Viktor? Anything in particular?”, he wanted his partners input, as he put down the chalk and already headed out.
