.:Final Painting Presentation - Spring 2021:.
Lauren Wolfe, Two Sides of Emotions, acrylic on canvas board, 2021
Artist Statement:
For my final body of work, I want to portray a sense of emotions through silhouetted figures. I have found that I have been dealing with different emotions during my time in quarantine, such as disappointment, anger, and joy. I felt that I wanted to show the ups and downs of being confined in quarantine, and I wanted to portray that in my paintings. The materials I used for my series were acrylic paintings on canvas boards. The first half of the series involves the lighter or happier side of emotions, such as the joy of reuniting with a close friend. The first half shows a warm gradation of yellow, orange, and red. I also found gradations to show different emotions by how two colors blend into each other to form a new color. A warm gradation can portray feelings of joy and happiness, while a cool gradation brings a sad and deep feeling. I wanted to show this emotional transition that I will feel out of quarantine, through the two figures transforming into one happy figure and through the gradation of the colors. The second half of the series features the downsides of being confined in quarantine. There are three different figures for three different emotions and well a half graduation in each of them. All three figures show a sense of longing, perhaps waiting for each other. In my six painting series, I also want people to look at my paintings and find their own meaning within them.
