“I would recommend just throwing them in the bin and getting fake ones...“ Lex replied without looking up from her phone. She had just returned from an extended trip in Australia and decided to pop by the ministry to see Alastor, who was nowhere to be found.

Alastor kicked his feet on his coffee table, a beer in his hand as he looked at the other. “Before you start, you should know that I’m taking good news at the moment,” he said. “So please tell me nothing burned down and no one murdered each other while I was away.”

Lex sat, pink Gin and Lemonade in her hand, and cocked a brow at her boss, “Is the murdering of Mudbloods and Muggles considering good news or bad news?”

“Hi,” he said with a small smile. Even though she was smiling, she looked devastated to see him. A terrible feeling churned in his gut. Did she not like him anymore? They had gotten somewhat close before. He bit down on his bottom lip to curve his anxiety. “We can go to my flat,” he suggested, to show that he trusted her. “Or, maybe a coffee shop or something if you’re not comfortable with that. Erm, anywhere is fine really, I’m not really picky,” he began to ramble. “Which–I’m sure you’re not either, just–er, you know…”

Lex had forgotten how annoying Nik’s rambling could be. A simple look and slight change in tone had him crumbling with anxiety. “Your flat is fine, Nik.” she said, holding out her hand for him to take and apparate them both away.

Alpheus pursed his lips, not exactly believing her words. “I can certainly imagine him telling you something and not me, it seems he’s been keeping me on a bit of a leash lately.” He tried not to sound too bitter about that, he knew Alastor had his reasons for everything.

Lex plastered an innocent look on her face and even battered her eyelashes. But they both knew that Alastor had told Lex about the attack that had happened over a month ago. Alpheus may be more Brawn than Brains, but he wasn’t stupid. “Why, what have you done for him to keep you on a leash?” Was she now avoiding the point of the conversation? Yes. She absolutely was, but she wasn’t about to give Alastor any reason to not trust her, just to ease how Alpheus might be feeling.

A grin spread across his lips when Lex sidled up next to him. Since they practically went through the ranks together, he could recognize with her mask and cloak on instantly. Alastor chuckled, “Definitely a lot,” he mused. He gestured at Lex, “Want to take the honors? I know it’s been a while for you.”

Lex grinned at Alastor, not that he would be able to see it of course, but it was there. “Well thank you, how generous of you, I think I might just take you up on that offer...” protests and whimpers of fear escaped the victim, “Oh dear... I think he might be scared...” her voice was thick with mock sadness and empathy, she leaned in closer, her wand still trailing along with the victim, dragging out the fact that he would inevitably be in a lot of pain very soon. She pulled back, walking behind the victim and placing her hands on his shoulders, “Maybe we should be kind... maybe we should let him go...” she trailed off, she could practically feel the sense of hope radiating off of their victim, “Or Maybe...” she pulled back and pointed her wand at the back of their victim, knowing he couldn’t see her, knowing he’d have no idea what was about to happen, no chance to prepare, “Crucio!”

“Well I suppose that’s true, i always love an excuse to look amazing and get drunk, but to be honest i would do that without a reason anyways.” He laughed in return, her comment about her mask peaking his interest. “I have a feeling I’m missing something. Do you and Lestrange have something planned that I don’t know about?”

“And that is why I like you so much, Al.” Alexandra delicately raised an eyebrow, she was very good at lying and keep secrets when she needed to. “You aren’t missing out on anything,” It wasn’t Lex’s place to reveal the plan, it was up to Alastor, the main thing as that Al was in the right place and she knew he would respond to the call when needed. “I can’t imagine Alastor telling me something that he didn’t also tell you...”

“Hey!” Nikolai called when he saw Lex’ familiar dark hair across the shop. “Lex, hi,” he said, pushing past people. “Sorry,” he apologized to a person he tripped into, making his way to the older girl. “Hey, er, can we talk?”

Lex heard Nikolai call her name and ducked her head trying to avoid him, she couldn’t deal with him right now. However, as much as she tried he made his way over to and asked to talk, with her back still too him she took a deep breath and turned to look at him, a slight sad impression on her face, “Oh, Nik, hi...” she then forced a fake smile on to her face, one that still showed her sadness behind her eyes. Of course, it was all an act... Nikolai hadn’t been doing his best as far as Alastor was concerned and it was Lex’s job to make sure he upped to game. “Of course we can,” she looked around her, maybe the middle of a busy shop wasn’t the best place, “Anywhere in mind?”

Alastor cocked his head to the side as he looked at the other, “This might hurt a bit.”

Of course, Alastor had filled Lex in on the plan, so she was prepared. She didn’t drink too much, but enough that she could easily pretend she was drunker than she was, there was no way anybody would suspect her of being involved with the attack when only moments before she had been stumbling around the party giggiling at an obnoxiously loud volume. Even with their masks on, Alexandra was able to identify Alastor among those involved, she sidled up next to him and toyed playfully with her wand, “Or maybe quite a lot...” The tip of Lex’s wand trailed down the side of their victims face.

Lex rolled her eyes, yes Halloween in the traditional sense was very muggle, but if you looked behind that there was more to and if you simplified it right now... it was just another night to get dressed up and drink. Although, she had no intention of getting wasted tonight. Not with the plan that would unfold later tonight. “It’s an excuse to get dressed up and drink, isn’t it. Besides, if I keep my mask on I get to fuck with people and they have no idea who I am.”

“I think Halloween is my favorite holiday.” Elliott mused, “No presents, no obligations, just a time to dress up and drink large amounts of alcohol.”

“Dress up and drink large amounts of alcohol?” Lex asked with a small smirk, “Sounds like my usual weekend.”

Alexandra didn’t allow her face to show a reaction, she knew better than to do that, “We went to school together.” she answered simply, it wasn’t technically the truth. They grew up together, were friends throughout school and were now close confidantes. “Why?“
