Thank you for saving me...
Clarke raised her eyebrow at the comment it was almost flirty and it gave her a little hope that things could progress.  âMy mouth is excellent at getting out of trouble, maybe one day youâll find out just how good,â  she teased with a little wink.  She just hoped it wasnât too much to scare the girl off.  Clarke leaned back in her chair crossing her arms and regarding Lexa admonishing and praising her bluntness.  âI canât change who I am, and I donât want to.  I donât say everything that pops into my head, but sometimes it just slips out.  Itâs out of my control really.  Like right now my head keeps thinking about how beautiful you are and how much I want to say it,â  she smiled casually.  She was pretty sure she had never seen a girl as beautiful and mysterious as Lexa and she had this need to get to know her better.  To not let this girl walk away and never see her again.  At least if worse came to worse she knew where she worked.  âYouâre a little confusing.  Youâre hard to read  and Iâm not sure if I really like it or if Iâm wary of it.  It could be a fun challenge to get to know you or it could be a horrible mistake that Iâll regret.  Which one do you think it is?â  She asked letting herself lean in a little closer over the table. Â
Clarkeâs smile spread, she liked hearing that the other girl found her attractive. Â It made her insides warm. Â She just laughed when Lexa blushed. Â âOf course I do, how could I not? Â You think I just randomly kiss girls Iâm not at least somewhat attracted to?â Â She clicked her tongue and smirked at the girl. Â She tapped her chin in thought at Lexaâs idea of what was attractive to her. Â âSo if I said I was pre-med with a minor in art history would that be intelligent enough for you?â Â She asked hopeful. Â âIâm a full time student right now, and even fuller time maid of honor.â Â She scrunched her nose up knowing how much work she had to do to keep on top of her grades as well as help her mother with every freak out. Â It was daunting. Â No wonder she hadnât gotten laid in months. Â âMe neither, I havenât even brought anyone back to my apartment in ages. Â I havenât had time or maybe I havenât had time because no one has been right.â Â She looked at Lexa pointedly. Â She had the sudden urge to lean over and invite Lexa back to her place, but she was pretty sure sheâd be shot down. Â Lexa didnât strike her as the hook up type. Â She laughed and shook her head. Â âIâm trying to not so subtly find out if your single so maybe I could ask you out again sometime,â Â she shrugged and took a sip of her latte. She hoped her bluntness was cute and not off putting at this moment. Â
Clarke shrugged with the smirk back on her face. Â âI may have only known you for an hour, but it feels like longer. Â Maybe I want to get to know you even better.â Â She felt the strong urge to reach out and touch her hand, but she didnât know if that would be forward or not. Â Instead she let her own hand drop on the table dangerously close to the other girls letting her fingertips brush against Lexaâs. Â She looked up into her eyes wondering if it was okay. Â âI can deal with him, but it doesnât mean I want to. Â If he didnât work for my Momâs fiance Iâd never have to see him again,â Â she said softly her confident expression faltering for a moment. Â Finn was more than just an ex he was someone who had broken her. Â She was just now picking up the pieces. Â âAny advice on how not to succumb to the charms of a smarmy asshole? Â So I donât make the same mistake twice?â Â She asked trying to slip back into a playful conversation. Â âI promise next Christmas I wonât throw them away Iâll save them all for you,â Â she said with a sweet smile almost unaware of what she was saying. Â She wasnât even sure if sheâd know this girl a week let alone 6 months from now, still she had to hope. Â Clarke raised he eyebrow and followed Lexaâs gaze to the bakery case. Â A slow smile formed on her face. âAre you offering me a cupcake? Â Because I think you might be on your way to me spontaneously kissing you again,â Â she smiled. Â âThat was a yes by the way,â Â she added. Â
Silently, without so much as movement, Lexa noticed the way Clarkeâs eyebrow raised. She was used to noticing every silent movement people made, but that didnât mean that she understood the reason why people did things. Every inch of her being buzzed with belief that the motions in Clarkeâs eyebrows meant she was flirting. There was no denying that her body wanted to believe that the blonde was interested, and when her mind entered the gutters she felt the air grow hotter. After a struggled gulp, she let logic take over her mind; There were two reasons why she wasnât ready to be reckless. The first was the repetitive of the two, she wasnât ready, and the other was the doubt around Clarke being interested. She tugged at the white material at her neck, âClark, you have shown me.â Her voice oozed in a low tone as she tried to not alert any attention from other customers. âI know how you can use your mouth.â She fidgeted with her hands, moving them across the table to push at the menu with a confused expression. She didnât get Clarkeâs angle at all, âYou showed me in the book store.âAs if she had been burned, she moved her hand back into her own bubble.
To most things, Lexaâs first response was to withdraw, analyse then plan to return, or depending on the circumstances not return. As she looked at Clarke with her blank expression she responded formely, âThank you.â She really wasnât used to blushing, fumbling, feeling as if her body would combust at any moment. Biting her lip, she rolled a shoulder, âI am average, youâreâŠYouâre wonderful?â Lexa stumbled over the word that had been playing on her tongue. Nervous at the blondeâs reaction she uncomfortably swiped her tongue over her lips.
Being sat close to an attractive girl didnât take her long to start comparing. She drank in the girlâs features, knowing she was nothing like Costia. She didnât seem cruel, giggly, and filled with the need to make Lexa stress for weeks. Letting out a breath, that she was unaware she had taken in, she leaned forward to peer into blue eyes. Clarke described her in a way no one else had, maybe it was out of fear that others didnât or the general lack of knowledge on her. The words let her shoulders relax from their tense hold and a smirk play on her lips. She would let herself open, even if it was just a little, âHonestly? I think itâs both. My family would agree too. I am an amazing nightmare; a nightmare you donât want to wake up from.â She held the mischievous smirk on her face as she felt the undeniable buzz of chemistry spark between them.
Finding herself saying words from earlier, âThank you?â She became flattered unsure how to take comments filled with such pleasurable tones. Honestly, Lexa had not heard people refer to her as beautiful or anything else since she was a very tiny child. She played with the coffee cup, only glimpsing up when she heard the click of a tongue. That tongue, she swallowed hard, feeling her face burn as hot as her desire to feel it against her own. âThatâŠ.Wow. Yes, of course I am impressed...But, intelligence is more than grades and a course.â She inched closer, lifting the cup with a higher interest on Clarke. âWhat you do is work enough.â She gently lifted her head in the smallest of nods as she let her eyes warm and connect with Clarkeâs blue ones. Â
As Clarke responded to her confession of being single, she couldnât help the way her eyes opened wider at the idea of taking a stranger home for a fling. Anya had told her that she needed that, but after one too many failed dates she had given up and let her sister continue acting like a widow. Not that she was always like that, she had slept with a few people before Costia. But, she had changed over that period became her now charming selfâwho satisfied her own needs. Tilting her head, she pointedly looked back, yet this look was different. This was a sensible visual reminded that Clarke shouldnât be taking strange men or women back to her place.
Gulping down a breath, she scooted back in her chair, almost pushing herself into a customer who was walking past. âClarke.â She let the girlâs name hang between them for a moment. Her hands felt sticky against the table too warm, the entire room was extremely warm. She wanted to say yes and she could see herself letting herself on a date with Clarke, but she couldnât. She still had a promise to uphold. âYou have a lot happening right now, the wedding⊠and I, I am not someone you want to dateâŠâ She grasped at anything not wanting to upset Clarke.
Lexa trailed her hand across the table, stopping close to Clarkeâs. After a silent breath, she touched her pink to against the girlâs soft skin. She wanted to tell her sorry, but she couldnât. âMaybe, we can have a date in the future?â She tickled the edge of the blondeâs hand, knowing she shouldnât start ideally touching strangers. âIf you want to know me, then you can.â The brunette smiled with her face, but her eyes held a hurricane of emotions within them. Â
Still silently trailing her finger over the side of the milky flesh, she listened to Clarkeâs woes on Finn. Despite herself, she found herself beginning to pull a small prank. Her face lacking any expression of emotion, she tilted her chin, selecting words with a cold delicate tone, âI have ways of getting rid of people. All you need to do is say.â After a pause, she let her mischievous smirk plant itself back on her face. As she spoke her eyes trailed back down to the hand she was tracing the outline of, âMm, really⊠I have many ideas for that.â She took a silent breath in, âBut really, you either get smarter than them or you find someone who reminds you youâre being stupid.â Leaving Clarkeâs hand alone she took her coffee in both hands and happily hummed, staring warmly into those blue eyes. Blue seemed to be becoming her favourite colour, maybe Anya would help her paint the car blue? What shade of blue was clarkeâs eyes? âYeah?â She question with a dazed tone and reddening cheeks. She touched Clarkeâs hand, enveloping it in her own palm. âI am gunna get a muffin. Velvet cupcake for you, right?â She lifted herself slowly from her chair, taking the wallet off the table and with a small look back she went to the counter. Lexa needed to pull herself together.
Thank you for saving me...
Clarkeâs eyes watched that tongue dart out to wet pink and plump lips and she had to hold in a whimper. Â She longed to have her own tongue tracing those perfect lips. Â It was a weird thought, she barely knew the girl, but honestly she had known less about people before she brought them home for a night. Â Still, she had a feeling Lexa was different. Â She didnât seem like the one night stand type. Â âMy dad always said my mouth was going to get me into trouble.â Â She shook her head with a little laugh. Â She smiled and ducked her head at Lexaâs words. Â âYou just chastised me for speaking too forwardly and now youâre saying itâs a good thing? Â Youâre very confusing.â Â She furrowed her brow and took a sip of her coffee letting the warm liquid run down her throat and warming her from the inside. Â
Clarkeâs smile grew at Lexaâs admission.  âSo, we both agree Iâm hot then?.â  she teased.  âWell then, I guess we were both blessed with good genes then?  What else would make someone attractive?  Enlighten me, what does one have to do to garner the attention of the enigmatic Lexa?â  She leaned over the table locking eyes with the other girl, she wanted to know more.  She wanted to know how to get those eyes to soften and that face to relax from itâs current resting steely expression.  She wondered if it was even possible.  Maybe she was wasting her time with the hot girl at the bookstore.  âAh, so  you have friends, so there are people that see you outside of your work days.  Do any of these friends include ones that you make out with on a regular or serious basis?â  She not so covertly asked.
Clarke smiled and raised her eyebrow as she sat back in her seat feigning shock. Â âLexa? Â Was that a joke?â Â She clutched her hand to her chest. Â âMy my, so you have some sense of humor. Â Iâm learning more and more about you with every passing minute.â Â Clarke bit her lip trying to not think of Finn again, everything that they had been through and how he hurt her in the end. Â She shouldâve seen it coming, but she wanted to believe that she was in love. Â She felt like an idiot. Â Her eyes focused down at the table trying to concentrate on the patterns of the stone table top. Â âWell, youâre smarter than most girls. Â He has a way of getting you to believe every lie he spits out.â Â She shook her head not wanting to think of this anymore, especially when a beautiful girl sat in front of her and sheâd much rather focus on mysterious green eyes than lying brown any day. Â Clarke looked at Lexa with confusion and a bit of disgust. âFruit cake? No one would have fruit cake at a wedding. ISnât that what old people think is a great Christmas present, but just ends up in the trash? Â Give me strawberry or red velvet and Iâm likely to give you anything you want in return.â Â She said leaning back in her chair glad the conversation had changed and she didnât need to think about exes. Â âCandles are fine, I guess. Â They do hold a bit of a romantic atmosphere, Iâll give you that. Â Still they arenât necessary for EVERYthing. Â Iâm sure there will be candles around.â Â She assured Lexa not sure why she needed to, but wanting to just the same. Â
Lexa could feel the way her lips were curling into a small smirk, âYour dad must be right- but it also gets you out of trouble.â She added the afterthought while her eyes dropped to the girlâs lips. She was originally thinking about Clarkeâs initiative to kiss the nearest strange. She even spoke it with a tone that presented her own special blend of humor and blunt facts, but as she continued to gaze at those lips her mind told her different ways they could get her out of trouble. There were mainly ways were Clarke could pleasure her. Swallowing, she directed her eyes around the coffee shop. She really needed to get laid. Flicking her green eyes back towards Clarke, she stared blankly back. âIn certain situations its bad. I think you should tone it down, but ultimately I enjoy your blunt nature.â She spoke quickly, not thinking about the repercussions of how the words would affect the girl. It was exactly what she was thinking, Clarke shouldnât deliver her lines like she did, but it made it easier for Lexa to understand her. She never liked having to dance around a subject or try and pry information out of people. Clarke appeared to be generally easier.  âI am not confusing.â She spoke slowly, tapping her fingers together, as she wrinkled her nose wondering how she was crazy.
âYou are attractive, Clarke.â She responded with a blank stare, she knew Clarke was teasing, she could feel her stomach warming with the tease but she couldnât argue or let it show. Her face heated, while her eyes could barely glance up, âYou find me attractive?â The sudden surprise of being called an enigma made her embarrassment drop from her face and turn into confusion. Taking a small sip of coffee she thought about it for a moment. She deeply thought about what made her attracted to people, âIntelligence.â She gently stated, wondering what Clarke did for a living. âYes, I have people outside of work. Speaking of work, what do you do?â Lexa questioned, taking another drink as she watched Clarkeâs warm smile over the cup of her mug. She had a small want to see Clarke over the top of her mug every morning. Swallowing the hot liquid, she shook her head, âNo⊠I havenât dated in a while. â She cocked her head to the left, wondering if her kissing ability had declined. Girlâs used to comment positively on her lips, not negatively. Letting out a small regretful sigh, she gazed back to the cake by the counter. âAre you trying to set me up?â She asked softly, her eyes flicking back to Clarkeâs slightly curled blonde hair.
Watching the girl dramatically clap her hand to her chest, she leaned closer across the table. âYes.âLexa grinned, a grin pulling her face up into a lighter expression. âClarke, you have only known me for less than an hour.â She watched the teeth nibble away at the girlâs lower lip with a little bit of jealousy. She wanted to nibble that lip. âYou are strong, Clarke. You can deal with him and you have. As for me being smarter⊠I think, simply, those charms donât work on âŠâ She held her tongue, not declaring her sexuality to the stranger. âPeople who have seen all types of characters before.â She noticed the dejected expression, the knitted brown and the deep stare at the table top. She may not have known her very well, but Lexa knew this wasnât an ordinary break upâŠThis boy had taken Clarke and distinguished a part of her soul. Knowing she had to change the subject, she latched onto the fruit cake conversation adding more to it than necessary. âI would. Fruit cake is sweet, healthier and balances the palate when you drink coffee.â She lifted her cup, taking a sip to prove her point. â It would be a great Christmas present. Clarke, donât throw it in the trash.â She frowned back, feeling like she was becoming more invested in protect the fruit cake. âThey arenât healthyâŠâ She sucked her lower lip, thinking over the last line of Clarkeâs sentence. Cake in return for anything? âWould you like a red velvet cupcake?â She pointed over to the counter where a range of cakes were, she never wanted their conversation to end. If she had to buy Clarke cake to keep talking to her, she would. âFine? They are a necessary item. I really like them.â She added a bit hurt by Clarkeâs lack of interest or understanding in how amazing candles were.    Â
Thank you for saving me...
Clarke blushed a little under the gaze of the brunette.  She knew she probably was overwhelming the girl, yet it was just how Clarke was, especially when nervous.  Why was this girl making her so nervous?  It wasnât like Clarke was any stranger to flirting with pretty girls, but there was just something about this one that told her that her normal pick up lines and bedroom eyes wouldnât be enough.  She was wondering if she should even bother, was the girl even interested in other girls?  Would it be presumptuous to assume just because she kissed her back?  Clarkeâs mind was racing with what ifs and how to proceeds. The most forefront in that racing brain of hers, however, was the thought of kissing her againâŠand again.  âMy dad used to say I was born without a filter, maybe he was right.â  She looked away from Lexa not able to take the intensity right now and the awkwardness that Clarke seemed to create with her lack of filter. Â
Clarke smiled and nodded and finally chanced a look back up at Lexa. Â âBut if itâs true, why deny it? Â Shouldnât you be confident in yourself and who you are? Â Iâd rather tell myself Iâm hot then let others tear down my self esteem or tear my own down.â Â She told Lexa with sincere honestly. Â She had been told before how she wasnât thin enough or pretty enough just because she dared to not be a size 0 and actually ate a donut or a cookie or the damn chocolate chip muffin that she had been craving all day. Â Clarke was taken aback by the innocent smile that crossed the girls features. Â âWhat, like you donât get told a zillion times a day how pretty you are? Â Seriously, Lexa, who have you been hanging out with. Â You need better friends.â Â She said with a good natured grin. Â
Clarke made a mental note of her order wanting to make sure she could get it right, in case she ever saw the girl again. Â She wasnât sure if it was likely, but she still had a little bit of hope. Â She was after all Clarke Griffin and she usually got whatever she wanted. Â Clarke took a sip of her drink and then made a face at Lexaâs comments. Â âBut working out takes commitment and sometimes Iâd rather binge watch Orange is the New Black and eat an entire Cheesecake by myself than set foot in a sweaty gym and over exert myself. Â I mean youâd have to like sweat and stuff, Iâm not made for that. Â My Roommates are gym rats, Iâm more of a maybe once in a blue moon go for a run or a hike person.â Â She nodded and hoped that she wouldnât be judged too harshly. Â She had heard it enough from Octavia and Raven, she didnât know if she wanted the same lecture from the gorgeous girl sitting next to her. Â Though something told her if Lexa asked her to work out with her, she would probably go. Â If for no other reason than to watch the other girl work up a sweat. Â âI dunno what Finn will or wonât be doing, if he shows up itâs not as my date, thatâs all I know. Â No matter how much he begs for forgiveness.â Â She rolled her eyes thinking of the late night calls and texts sheâd received from her ex. Â A few that almost made her go back until she reminded herself all that he did to hurt her while they were together. Â âYou obviously havenât met my mom. Â She wants everything 1000% perfect. Â From what flavor cake, to what flower petals the flower girl is going to drop. Â Itâs enough to make anyone stressed out. Â Candles? Â What if itâs a day wedding or an out door wedding? Â How would candles fit int?â Â
Lexaâs eyes took in the slow colour build in the cheeks in front of her with wide curious eyes.  The girl blushed, from her? Her tongue rolled out from between from her lips, licking the coffee taste from her own lips as she studied the girl. âMaybe he was right, butâŠIt is differentâŠOther people donât say what they feel enough.â Lexa said her voice slightly lower as she directed her eyes to the coffee cup. Playing with the rim of the coffee cup, she let her finger gently swirl around it. âItâs a good thing, Clarke.â She added, after a few minutes of thought. There were things, feeling she wanted to say, but couldnât.
Lexa looked back up at the same time, their eyes connecting over the coffee cups. âYes, but you donât have to declare it, Clarke. Itâs painfully obvious you have it all in the looks department.â Biting her lip, she caught herself looking over the way the girlâs breasts filled the v neck shirt. Swallowing, she gave a tight lipped smile, âBut, thatâs genes, what makes some attractive is more than physical appearance.â Her hands felt like a spare part, still cupping the drink, so she did something that was an old habit from back when she met Costia. She placed her hand out in front of her, slowly pushing on her thumb, making the joints pop. Slowly stretching her hands, she rolled them back around the cup.  âI hang out with my friendsâŠâ Lexa whispered, unsure how else to answer the question. The thing she said wasnât even true, she hung out with Anyaâs friends, but she was too distracted by the amazing grin to make sense of her words.
She licked her lips, âI still make time for shows, you know? The tread mill has tvâs built into the consoleâ She gave the girl a half grin, proud that she had slipped a joke into their conversation. Leaning onto the table, Lexa curiously looked at the way Clarke talked about her friends. There was slight adoration in her voice, but her eyes spoke about how she cared about them too. She wondered what stories lay behind the way she looked when she spoke about them, were these friends people she met in her childhood or new ones? Did she kiss those in book stores? âI didnât like himâŠâ Lexa muttered awkwardly, taking a long drink of coffee until the awkward moment passed.  âNo, I havenât met her. I like fruit cake.â Frowning she felt herself reject the idea of not having candles at a wedding, âClarke, candles are one of the most romantic items out there. Itâs necessary for any romantic setting.â She said as if it was the most obvious fact she had ever expressed. There was no way, in that she would ever marry someone without candles. Â
Thank you for saving me...
Clarke shook her head and let out a soft laugh. Â âHardly, trust me if I was drunk I probably wouldâve done a lot more than just kiss you.â Â She bit her lip not sure why she was being so candid, it had slipped out. Â âLetâs just say Iâm very handsy when Iâm drunk.â Â She willed herself to stop talking this was probably not what the girl she had just met needed to hear, no matter how many thoughts kept running through her head. Â Clarke tried to not feel offended by her comments, but gave her a playful glare anyway. Â âIâm very hot and thereâs no sense denying it.â Â she had never been shy about her beauty. Â Others had told her often enough and she knew that she was attractive. Â Maybe a little pudgy in places, but nothing that ever hindered a guy or girl to flirt or want to do more to her. Â âItâs not narcissism when itâs true. Â And anyway, like youâre one to talk. Â Youâre fucking gorgeous.â Â She mentally slapped herself again, her mouth had always been a problem of hers. Â She really needed to get her head to catch up with her mouth one of these days instead of just saying what instantly came to mind. Â
âWell, you can get whatever you want, I meant it, itâs my treat.â Â She smiled genuinely as the girl studied the menu. Â She ordered herself a whole milk salted caramel latte with extra whip and drizzle, and waited for Lexa to order her espresso. She walked over to a table with their drinks and sat down across from Lexa. Â âThe gym? Â That sounds like my worst nightmare. Â My friends always try to get me to go and workout with them, but I never make it past my couch with my work out clothes on.â Â She laughed. Â âI admire your dedication. Â She glanced over at the bag of bridal magazines at Lexaâs question. Â âYeah, she is. Â She met a nice guy and they seem happy enough. Â Sheâs super nervous and itâs my job as Maid of Honor to calm her down and make sure everything goes off without a hitch.â Â She let out a sigh. Â âThe things we do for family right?â Â
Her heart stammered, making the air heavy around her. Lexa wasnât sure if the girl was suggesting she would be feeling her up if they were going for a harder drink or if the blonde was just highly inappropriate. Spinning slowly in her knee high boots she watched the girl. Her green orbs trailed slowly over her features, taking her time to visualize how the girlâs nibbled on lips would feel on hers. Lexa had the deepest desire to kiss the girl, whisper promises that every time she spoke before thinking she would kiss her anxiety away. âYou donât think before you speak.â Lexa whispered in a way to verbally declare what she had just uncovered. Although she was learning things from being around Clarke, her arms were prickled with goose bumps. They were too close, that every whisper or breath would have been heard and she was forced to look up with guilt filled eyes filled. She hummed over the words on her tongue looking at the undeniable beauty, before taking a small tiny page corner out of Clarkeâs book. âJust because itâs a fact, doesnât mean you should declare it. Sometimes, a visual is more attractive than the words.â She gave her a small smile, making sure that the girl wasnât hurt by her wordsâalthough she really shouldnât have cared about the strangers feelings. She was listening to Clarke, but barely as she looked for a seat. Then the comment hit her like someone physically smacked her in the face with a batt. Heat flared to her cheeks and she ducked her head, a few strands falling over her features as she tried to reform herself before looking back up. âThank youâŠâ She whispered, eyes narrow, as she looked at Clarkeâs face for sign of a deeper intent.
She nodded as she looked away from the menu again, leaning towards the barista to order the Americano with an extra shot. Her headache was no longer aching, but she still felt it necessary to grab the coffee to ensure it didnât come back. Â A smug smiled barely supressed as Clarke order exactly what she had predicted. She carefully followed the girl, the smell of coffee clinging to her nostrils. Â Sliding into the chair across from Clarke, she placed her bag on the back of the chair and slowly rolled her shirt sleeves up. She played with the cuffs of the white shirt, gently folding them further up. Raising an eyebrow she glared at Clarke with disapproval, âI rather enjoy working out. A healthy body is a healthy mind. Treat it as a fine temple, because you only get one.â She allowed her small smile to accumulate on her lips, trying to be more accommodating for the female. There was a reason her dates went sour, and it tended to do with her being so closed off. Lexa also didnât really like dates or dating. Having finished rolling her sleeves up, she placed her hands around the coffee cup and took a delicate sip. âWhich means that Finn canât be there?â Lexa shrugged, âI understand, but making a wedding happen isnât that difficult. A few cupcakes and a priest is all you need.â She paused wondering if she had missed something out, âMaybe some candles too?â
Thank you for saving me...
Clarke dipped her head trying to hide a blush. Â âWell, I donât normally make it habit, unless there is a ton of alcohol involved.â Â She said with a shy little laugh. Â âWhat about you, Iâm sure itâs an every day occurrence to be accosted by a hot girl during your shift.â Â She teased shooting a little glance over at Lexa. Â It was hard to read the other girl, her eyes said one thing and her facial expressions said a complete other. Â Sheâd catch glimpses of a smile reflected in green, but then it would drop and the steely expression would be all that would remain. Â She just wished she could figure out what was going on in that mind of the girl next to her. Â Had she been as into the kiss as she was, did she ache to reach out and touch Clarke like Clarke was dying to touch her. Â She knew she shouldnât want this, but at the same time she couldnât ignore the way that being so close to Lexa made her feel. Â
When they reached the coffee shop she held the door open for Lexa and held her breath as the girl passed by her, their bodies almost touching and it felt stupid to be so effected by someone she didnât even know. Â Oh, how she wanted to know her. Â
âSo, what do you want to drink? Â I canât tell if youâre a latte or a frappacino type of girl. Â Donât tell me youâre one of those boring squares that only drink it black.â Â She said with a little wag of her eyebrows as they moved to the line. Â âI hope Iâm not really keeping you from anything important.â Â her brow furrowed knowing her companion didnât talk much and the expression still remained unreadable. Â She shifted a little uncomfortably starting to wonder if this whole thing could be a mistake. Â Maybe Lexa was just too polite to turn her down. Â Why did that thought hurt more than it should? Â
She could feel the tickle of a laugh in her throat, puffing out air, she swallowed hard. Â This girl was making it increasingly difficult for her to be able to hold onto her demeanour, every inch of her body felt uncomfortable. It was as if her limbs were frozen with the fear of presenting to the girl anything other than a strangersâ kindness. âSo youâre drunk right now?â Lexa asked, tilting her head to the side as she tried to keep her eyes focused on the horizon in front of her. She thought if she kept her eyes in front of her, she would obtain more control in the bizarre situation. Once more her eyes expressed how she was filled with humour at the girlâs words, but she didnât let her face reflect that. âDo you often refer to yourself as hot, Clarke?â Â She couldnât help herself, her lips pulled up into a small smirk. âYou know, narcissism isnât a very attractive quality.â She teased back, but kept her eyes focus on her destination in front of her.
Before she walked past Clarke, Lexa looked over the coffee store front. The place was clean, generic in its layout and coffee options. She hadnât been there very much, only one or twice after her shift to grab a quick pick me up. Majority of the time, she found herself in the university library watching the drip of vending machine coffee. âThank you.â She said politely, as she slipped past Clarke into the store. The instant she stepped over the fresh hold, the waves of coffee attacked her nostrils and her stomach growled in desperate need. Â
Raising an eyebrow, she responded with a bored expression, âNormally I am an espresso type of girl.â She wasnât sure how coffee made someone boring, but if it appeased the girl she could order a cappuccino. If she had to guess Clarkeâs drink it would be a latte with syrup, maybe a chai latte.  She wasnât sure why, but she found that she appeared to be the type of woman who wouldnât dare drink instant or vending machine coffee. It would all be rich, milky beverages, with a splash of sweetener. âI donât like to mess with something that works.â Lexa responded, moving her eyebrows in the same fashion Clarke did. Raising her hand to stop Clarkeâs apology she looked her in the eye for the first time since they left the book store, âI would have just went to the library or the gym. Nothing too important, Clarke.â Lexa returned to looking at the menu on the wall the white chalk marks making out the usual list of drinks you could find in any high street coffee store. She had never been one to talk too much, she was happy with her own company especially since she got the chance to be alone. There was a time when she was more acquainted to childrenâs homes, which were filled with messed up kids waiting to be rehomed by the state. It had taken three years for Indra to get full custody of her and Anya, but those years were enough to leave an impression.  However, that didnât mean Clarke had to be subject to deathly silence. Swallowing she tried her best to figure out how to make small talk, âYour mother is getting married?â  Lexa looked at her the question written all over her face, hoping the girl would take the conversation from there.
Thank you for saving me...
âLexaâŠâ Clarke repeated putting the name to memory and wanting to get lost on how it felt to say the name.  It was fitting for the girl in front of her, she definitely looked like a Lexa.  She wanted to hold on to the hand in hers, to intertwine their fingers again, to feel that rush of heat and contentment that she knew it could bring.  But Lexa pulled back too quickly for Clarkeâs liking and she ached to make it right, but didnât want to press the girl.  Maybe it was all in Clarkeâs head how the kiss made her feel and how being so close to Lexa made her want things she had no business wanting. Â
Clarke had to remind herself to breathe when she saw that pink tongue dart out to wet soft lips that she could still taste on her own. Â She wished she could just lean forward and feel them again, pull that offending tongue insider her mouth feeling it glide against her own. Â She had to keep her mind away from those thoughts, the girl was gorgeous there had to be a catch. Â She was probably dating someone else or straight. Â Maybe Clarke was just projecting, she hadnât gotten laid in awhile and of course her body was going to react when someone as gorgeous as the brunette was right there in front of her. Â She was horny, that was all. Â She willed her body to calm down and just focus for a moment. Â It all boiled down to her just needing to get laid. Â
âCoffee is definitely necessary, how else would one survive the day?â Â She asked keeping her voice as even as possible, hiding and pushing down all the emotion swirling inside her. Â Her breath hitched when Lexa moved closer and for a moment she dared to hope that maybe the girl wanted what she wanted and she could lean up and capture those lips again, but then Lexa grabbed for the Bridal magazines and Clarke wanted to scream. Â Her face dropped for a moment totally dejected. Â âYeah, thanks, what do I owe you for them?â Â she asked trying hard to keep from sounding defeated. Â At least Lexa still wanted to go for coffee, even if it was just a gesture or pay back, Clarke couldnât help but feel hopeful that sheâd at least get a few more moments with this beautiful stranger that was suddenly clouding all her thoughts. Â
Joining Clarke with the bridal books in hand, she looked at the girlâs face taking in the milky flesh that was a few shades lighter than her own. The skin looked gentle to her touch that she wanted to crease her cheek and draw those soft lips to hers. âIt seems like you survive it by kissing strangers. Not by drinking coffee.â Lexa said, her eyes flashing with a dark playful glimmer. Â She waited a moment simply watching Clarkeâs dejected face for clues. Not seeing any she let the corner of her lips be pulled up to give her a small tempting smile. âClarke, you are buying me coffee. Call it a gift for your motherâs wedding.â She rolled her handbag onto her shoulder, tilting her head towards the door. âEmori, we have a shipment at four. Chart it. â Lexa said, looking back as she opened the shop door for Clarke.
Although Lexa was trying to ensure her face did not display any sign of emotion, as she genuinely did in her everyday life, she had no control over her big green eyes that were smiling warmly at Clarke. Her eyes were always the thing that made Indra figure out who stole the last cookie from the jar, or why there was paint all over the dining room wall. Â âClarke, what do you do then?â Lexa asked, keeping enough distance so she wouldnât accidentally touching the girl.
Thank you for saving me...
Clarke suddenly felt the loss of the girls hand and fought the urge to take it back in her own.  She suddenly wasnât sure what to do with her hands so she put them in the pocket of her jacket.  âYeah, but mother also told me to not date Finn, maybe I should start listening to her.â  She gave a small smile to the brunette.  âI really hope youâre not mad, I didnât want to put you in a difficult spot, it was just the only thing I could think of.â  She apologized wondering now if the girl would be pissed about it.  She felt  a little stupid thinking that there was something more to the kiss they shared.  Her ears perked up, 5 minutes?  She could definitely wait 5 minutes for this girl, to repay her for her kindness of course, that was all right?  âFive minutes, thatâs fine.  I guess I picked a good time to choose you as my fake girlfriend.â  She smiled and pulled one hand out of her jacket and extending it to the girl to shake.  âIâm Clarke by the way, and that asshole you met was my ex Finn.  He thinks he still stands a shot even after his ass cheated on me pretty much the entire time we dated.â  She didnât know why she was telling her this. Â
She silently studied the girl, and then let her head motion up and down in a slow movement. âYes, maybe you should listen to your mother.â Lexa spoke, her face back to its original sturdy set up. She couldnât look into those blue eyes without her body responding with tingling sensations. Â Forcing her eyes away from the girls, she was desperate to ensure her cold expression didnât work its way off her face. Â Down by her side, her hands twitched, with uncertainty of what to do with them. She had no idea where to put them, so as she stared at the spot between Clarkeâs eyebrows she played with her badge. âI am not mad.â Lexa responded, moving her hand away from the plastic attached to her button up white shirt. She wasnât mad, not at all, but she was uncomfortable. She had just kissed a stranger without being intoxicated and liked it. Imagine what the girl would think if she actually found out about that? The girl, who Clarke probably thought was straight, wanted to kiss her again and again. âI think you picked the right store to pick a fake girlfriend.â Presenting her hand, she smiled softly with her eyes but not her lips. âLexa, Lexa Knightley.â She listened to the comments rolling off Clarkeâs tongue without responding, she wasnât sure how. She couldnât pretend to be highly invested in the girlâs ex when she wasnât. She only cared about the blue eyed girl. As their hands connected, Lexa was tempted to pull her back to her, look into her eyes and just learn about her. Instead, her hands felt too sweaty, too nervous in the girlâs grip. So as soon as it was possible she dragged it back into her own space.
âI think you need the coffee more than me.â Licking her lips, she gently walked back towards the slightly smaller woman. She could smell her, a soft aroma of perfume and something else that might have just been Clarke. She let her hands drift forward, slowly taking the bridal books. âIâll scan theseâŠAnd we can get coffee.â Lexa nodded again, moving back to the main shop hoping the girl followed her.
As she scanned the books, moving in practised motions and then pressing down on the discount symbol on the register she was too lost in thoughts of Clarke. That might have been why she didnât realize Emori had burst in to the shop sliding onto the counter, âHas the mysterious Lexa got a woman, a man, a life?â She said with a wide smile, that didnât drop from her lips even when Lexa glared at her. âI am leaving two minutes early for that comment.â She shot back, slipping the books into the bag and leaning to grab her purse from under the counter. Â Â
Thank you for saving me...
Clarke laughed and beamed up at her. Â âOf course, why do you think Iâm dating you?â Â She teased and really liked the smile she got in return. Â Even if this was just some kind of female code to help each other out from sticky situations. Â She was glad she had chosen this one. Â She didnât even know if the other girl liked girls or not, it was presumptuous, but trying this with another guy couldâve led to a much horrible disaster than Finn Collins. Â
Clarke could see the rage etched on the girls face, but as much as Finn probably deserved to be knocked from here to next week it, this wasnât the time or the place. Â All she wanted was to go somewhere that he wasnât and thank this girl that saved her from having to deal with him. Â
Her heart was still racing when they pulled back, it was hard to even think about anything else but soft lips pressed against hers. Â She hadnât been kissed like that in a long while. Â She knew it probably shouldnât effect her like this, this was a stranger, someone who was doing a good deed, and yet the kiss left her aching and wanting more. Â Clarke let Lexa take her hand feeling the gentle hand tug her away from the situation she didnât want to be in. Â She didnât even glance back to see Finnâs reaction too taken in by her green eyed savior. Â âYeah he is.â Â She agreed. Â âIâm sorry to put you on the spot there, thank you for going along with everything.â Â She said sincerely still holding tightly to the hand in hers. Â âIf you really do have a break coming up, we can still get that coffee and muffin, my treat. Â The least I can do for my knight in shining armor.â Â
Lexa bobbed her head into a nod, âDefiantly for my money and discount.â She smiled again, licking her lips with nervous anxiety. Rubbing her hand against her black skinny jeans, she tried to take a breath without looking too affected by the situation. Â The kiss was mind blowing, not just making her lips feel numerous sensations, but also her entire body.
Maybe Indra had been getting at something when she told her to go out with her friends, find a nice girl and stop mopping. It had to be the reason why the room felt as if it was spinning, her breath was caught in her throat and she was desperate to taste her again. Now, with their hands laced together, Lexa was too busy dragging her to the back to the stock room to acknowledge the girlâs words. Slamming the door behind her, she let go and spun around so her back was to the stock wall. After a moment, she took a deep breath and looked over the blonde in front of her. âDidnât your mother ever tell you not to lie?â She asked bringing her face back into a stern emotionless expression.  âAbout that, itâs fine. Donât mention it.â Lexa responded, shaking her head, unable to let the girl see how much everything had affected her. âI am actually off inâŠâ She looked at the small watch on her wrist âfive minutes⊠I am just waiting for Emori to take the next shift.â Narrowing her eyes, she took another breath, still unsure if she should take the girlâs offer up. âIâll , erm, put your books through the check register and  we can go?â Lexa said with lingering hesitation in her voice.  Â
Thank you for saving me...
âYou make the money so I can spend it right?â Â She smirked finding the banter a little easier than she had anticipated. Â The way the girls arms felt around her made her want to curl up into her, she felt safe. Â âGladly, then we can go over these bridal magazines, you know how my mom has been stressing.â Â She said waving the basket in front of her. Â
Finn raised a skeptical eye at the scene between them. Â âClarke, tell me youâre joking, please as if some dyke pussy could take the place of a real man. Â Who are you fooling?â Â Clarke bit the inside of her mouth she wanted so badly to make him go away, how could she have ever deluded herself to think he was worth anything. Â
She felt bolder and placed her hand on her hips. Â âA Dyke pussy that can satisfy me better than you ever could.â Â She looked into green eyes hoping that this girl would be okay with what she was about to do. Â She placed her hands around the girls waist and pressed their lips together. Â She tried to push down the rush that surged in her when their lips met. Â It should feel awkward and strange, but somehow it felt warm and inviting. Â She closed her eyes letting herself melt a little more into the kiss before pulling back. Â She looked into the girls eyes a silent apology. Â
She let herself genuinely smile at the quick response from the blonde. She liked how snarky she seemed to be, as if she commanded her own life and let no one else led her. A breath puffed out from between her lips forming a small sigh, as she watched the way the big bridal books moved with ominous intent. Â âI am guessing you want me to use my discount on those too?â She said with a little light teasing in her tone. From the corner of her eye, Lexa was analysing the girlâs portfolio. She was one of those people who looked like she could pull of a loose baggy shirt and some slacks. Â Gently shaking her head she let her hand, once more, she tugged the girl to follow her.
Lexa was ready to disarm the entire situation, drag the girl into the backroom, let her stay there till the boy band member left, but that was apparently not her fate. Â She was too preoccupied letting her head store that wonderful name, when the word dyke slapped her in the face. Â It took her aback, her eyes narrowing toward the man. No way did he say that. Her fingers, that were down by her side, curled into balls, where she squeezed them until she could feel her small nails digging into her palm. Â This was 2016, and she hadnât heard that name since high school. With a clenched jaw, she was ready to let herself punch the man, threaten him, anything to get herself out of this situation. Â
One step forward and the gentle touch drew her back to herself. Â Striking blue swam back into her vison and she felt her entire body shift, as if it was realizing something her mind had yet to figure out. Â She nodded at her, one soft nod to assure her that it was okay to say she would satisfy her. At least, that was why she thought Clarke was looking at her for. Her lips fell onto hers and sparks flooded through her body. Lexa lowered her eyebrows and she pushed her lips back into the delicate cushions. The taste, the feeling, it was amazing and she wanted nothing more than anything to prove that she was better than the boy. Closing her eyes, Â she let her instincts take over her. Nibbling gently on the Clarkeâs lower lip, before the distance pulled her back to reality. Swallowing, she rolled her eyes, â If you excuse me, my girlfriend and I have a date.â Lexa snarled, taking the girlâs hand and pulling her away from the male. Â âHe is an ass.â Lexa whispered.
Thank you for saving me...
Pinching the bridge of her nose, she let her eyes close. It was Lexaâs way of stealing a small moment to herself, a moment that way one hundred percent necessary to help her supress her migraine. Against her better judgement she had chosen the shift after her early morning lecturers, knowing that extra funding would be well worth her exhaustion and hunger.
Due to the time of day, there wasnât a large amount of people in the shop. Â It was mainly made up of a group of old ladies who congregated together every Thursday. At this particular moment they were leaned together in a small circle, giggling as they flipped through a few pages of fifty shades of grey. Looking up at the blushing grannies, as they behaved like teenagers Lexa supressed her own small laugh. Assessing the rest of the room, she let her eyes roll over the shaggy haired boy who was talking to a blonde girl. Â The way they were talking, made her endlessly curious. She wouldnât have called herself a nosey person, but she couldnât help herself. Without anything else to occupy herself, she picked up a pile of new books and slowly walked towards the couple ready to slide the cake decorating books into the shelf adjacent from the two.
Clarke looked around for anything anyone to save her. Â She saw the girl that stacked the books, she had seen her around a few times. Â Haunting green eyes and a pretty smile. Â She just hoped she was a good sport. Â She reached out and touched the girls arm. Â âThere you are, baby, I was waiting for you to go on break.â Â She said in a flirty tone her eyes pleading with the brunette to follow along. Â Finn let up his hold letting Clarke slip from beneath where she was trapped and over closer to the girl. Â She placed a soft peck on her cheek. Â âYou promised me coffee and a muffin and I plan on cashing in.â Â She smiled at the other girl hoping against hope Finn was buying this and that the girl wouldnât think her a strange lunatic. Â Girls were supposed to look out for each other right? Â
Sliding a particularly weird decoration book into the spot of novelty cakes; which she presumed was linked to cat cake decorations. She took a small step, her eyes locking with blue orbs that seemed deep and desperate. They were deeper than any blue she had ever seen; swimming with flecks of lighter shades that made them, in that moment, seem increasingly intense. Â As the hand landed on her black shirt covered arm, she raised her eyebrows in silent wonder. The blonde was obviously uncomfortable, perhaps even intimidated by the man, and Lexa couldnât just leave her. So for what seemed like forever, she waited, searching for a clue that would tell her who to ring or if she had simply misunderstood?
Blinking once, she closely watched the way the blondesâ lips moved over each syllable.  Her eyebrows lowered at the word, âBaby?â She had barely seen the girl twice in the store and now she was her baby? Lexa wasnât anyoneâs baby. She was pretty sure Anya would relentlessly tease her for being subject to a pet name.  Swallowing hard, she felt herself supress a tingling shiver as the lips descended on her cheek. âCoffee?â Lexa mumbled, as she angled her gaze back to the man.  If it hadnât took her off guard, maybe she would have walked away or just told the man to fuck off? But instead, blaming her actions on her own fatigue, she let herself follow the strangers lead. Moving to let her hand gently circle the girlâs waist, she gave her a tight lipped smile. âMy shift is barely over and youâre already taking my money?â Shifting her weight to try and force her bones to feel less awkward in their positions she hummed. âIf you give me a minute to grab my bagâŠâShe hesitated on the word, not having a name to fill the area.â-babe.â Yep, as she thought it would, it sounded so insincere. Anya certainly permission to mock her if she ever used that word again.  âCome on, help me get it?â Lexa added, tugging the girl slightly closer to her before she let her burning hand fall from around the girlâs waist.
Thank you for saving me...
Clarke flipped through the bridal magazines at the book store standing there trying to get ideas for her motherâs upcoming wedding. Â She didnât know why her mom wanted to go all out, it was a second marriage after all. Â Still she liked seeing her mom so happy and she didnât mind Kane, sure he wasnât her father, no one could be, but he was a decent guy and she knew he loved her mom. Â She sighed putting down her 3rd magazine before shoving a couple into a basket over her arm. Â She was going to turn to pay for them when she noticed a familiar dark gaze at her. Â She rolled her eyes as Finn walked up to her. Â
âHey, Princess, whatcha got there?â Â he said moving to look at what was in the basked and raising a skeptical eye. Â âMeet some new guy in the month weâve been broken up?â Â
Clarke wanted to laugh, but instead shook her head glaring up at the boy. Â âAnd if I had, what is it of you? Youâre the one who cheated on me remember?â Â She bit her lip and let out a dry chuckle. Â âNot that itâs any of your business, these are for my mom, remember sheâs getting married.â Â She didnât expect him to remember, not that he really payed any attention to her life. Â
âRight, right that invitation thing you gave me, so we still on for the big day I guess?â Â Clarke raised her eyebrow at him he really couldnât be serious. Â Yet here he was cocky smile and draping an arm over her head backing her up into a stack of books. Â âCome on, Princess, you and I had a lot fun.â Â Her eyes went wide and panic spread in her, she didnât like being trapped and she wanted to find a way to retreat to get away, anything. Â She just needed to breathe. Â
Pinching the bridge of her nose, she let her eyes close. It was Lexaâs way of stealing a small moment to herself, a moment that way one hundred percent necessary to help her supress her migraine.
