“Oh! By all means.” Heikki motioned for her to stand in front of him. “I know how that feels. I sometimes have long days, especially when my little one here was a tiny one.” There was a smile on his face as he waved at the three year old, his twelve year old doing the same. “Then again, my little one is getting to be not so little anymore.”

taking a small step forward so that she could see the flavours better without being in the man’s way, the options in front of her still weren’t making the choice any easier. “this one is three and she’s just been with her dad for a couple of nights so she’s always a little funny on the first night back with me.” the little girl beamed when the other waved to her, and she wasted no time in enthusiastically waving back. “i try not to think about her getting any bigger than this. i want her to just stay small forever.”

“I just moved here a couple of months ago, so I don’t have my bearings quite yet. Though, drop me in the middle of Helsinki, and I could tell you ten different back ways to the town square.” She chuckled. Hase missed being in a city that was familiar to her, but was willing to navigate this new city for family. “You’re right about that.” She gave a thumbs up. “That sounds great. Could you lead me to it?”

“helsinki? amazing place, i’ve been there a couple of times.” there weren’t many parts of the world that leyla hadn’t been to, even if only on a stop-over. “sure, it’s follow me.” she motioned in the direction of the coffee shop in question before beginning to walk.

“Oh, I’m not in line yet. She still needs a little time to decide.” Heikki looked up from his daughter at the other person at the ice cream shop. “You’re more than welcome to go ahead of us.” He offered. It was the least he could do, just in case they were in a hurry.

balancing her three year old on her hip, leyla looked at the man who spoke. “oh, we haven’t decided yet either. i’m just trying to get a better look at the options since my eyes are not cooperating after being awake for as long as i have. i wasn’t trying to rush you or anything.”

At the other’s words, she realized just how ridiculous the request for home sounded. “I-I’m sorry. I’m not from around here.” Her cheeks tinged red with embarrassment. “Fair is fair, and I’ll take the coffee shop. I can call my brother or roommate to pick me up from there. Gods, they’re going to laugh, but I missed my bus stop and now I’m here by this giant bean thing because it’s the only landmark I remembered from the tour my brother took me on the first day.” Hase rambled. Now she was sure she sounded even more ridiculous.

“it’s okay.” leyla assured the woman with a smile. “we’ve all been there, so it’s no problem.” there had been plenty of occasions where she’d found herself a little turned around in a new city. with years of traveling under her belt, it had happened more times than she was willing to own up to. “the bean is pretty hard to miss.” she chuckled. “but, there’s a coffee shop a couple blocks from here.”

Of course she was lost. It wasn’t hard to get lost in Chicago, especially given her newness to the city. She’d been in the city only a couple of months and usually went somewhere only with her roommate or brother. Now Hase was standing by The Bean and knowing she was far from her destination. “Move to Chicago, he said. It will be nice, he said.” She muttered to herself before looking around for someone… anyone.. to point her in the right direction. “Excuse me, do you know where the nearest coffee shop or restaurant is? Better yet, do you think you could point me in the way of my home?”

leyla was on her way for her next caffeine fix when she was stopped by someone who seemed quite lost. though she wasn’t technically a chicago native, she still considered the city her home. it was the one city that she’d spent the most time in, and she’d grown fond of the city since returning a few years ago after her travels around the world. “the nearest coffee shop i can do, no problem. your home might be a little harder, but i can try.”

Jakob watched as his daughter kept putting her hands on The Bean, excited about her own reflection. Though there was a minor incident when she didn’t quite realize it was there, almost running face first into it. She was now just trying to figure out what it was. “I swear she could do this for hours,” he chuckled, looking over at the person next to him.

“given the chance, i think you’re right.” leyla agreed, watching the little girl that she shared with her best friend. she couldn’t think of a better person to co-parent with than jakob. he was an amazing father and she loved watching him with their daughter. “i think she would have more fun with her own reflection than she would with another kid.”
