One day the war would be over : mind would do its tricks, make the surroundings appear a little BRIGHTER, the air less heavy to breathe, full of promises of a better future. So dearly she waited for that day to come, the day they all could lower their weapons and finally become who they had meant to be, had there been no war in the first place. But all of that was simply silver linings — the very same things would keep them awake at night even then, she was sure of it. The galaxy around them would change, but same nightmares would keep haunting on them until the day their souls would travel to next life ( or at least so she believed ). Still, she thought those restless visions would be worth of peace : and she could live with that weight. No matter the side they had chosen to fight on, they all had committed most horrifying crimes against life. If nightmares would be the only burden after all they had done and been through, she WOULD take it. ❝ — Learning everything there is would be rather inhuman, would it not, ❞ she replied, head tilting to the side while letting her gaze shift from the night sky to Ben, ❝ But you are right. ❞
In an attempt of turning the tone of their conversation upside down, Kaydel decided to take a little step away from her comfort zone. Though the REASON why they were out this late was heavy, it did not have to end such way, too. ❝ When I was little, ❞ she began, ❝ I used to sit on the porch of my aunt’s home, waiting for her to come back from work. I tried to count all the stars I could see, and name them. It was peaceful. ❞ A pause. ❝ Did you ever do anything like that ? ❞
THE NOTION OF IT BEING INHUMANE IS QUITE HUMOROUS TO HIM GIVEN WHAT HE FACES EVERY NIGHT . the blood , the DESTRUCTION ---- the sheer betrayal at his own hands ---- it’s all there , forever present in his mind the second he slips into sleep . but what use was there in mentioning any of that now ? they’ve come out here for a ESCAPE ; a short break that he’s certain that they’re probably both well overdue by now . surely it would be best for them to make the most out of the small scrap of peace they have while it still lasts ?
opting for a smile , he nods , deciding to leave the topic there for now . the conversation shifts quickly anyway , the distraction that she’s providing all too WELCOME to his haunted mind , a bright glint to his eyes casting away some of that darkness . “ yes ... ” he muses , gazing at her a while longer before he turns his head back up towards the night sky , taking in its BEAUTY once again . “ i’ve always loved to look up at the stars . they’ve always been able to help SOOTHE me after my nightmares . ” beautiful , magical beings , even if they were just balls of fire , set to burn and burn until they had nothing left . laughing softly , he tilts his head so that he can EXAMINE her once more , brown eyes full of a certain gentleness he lacked only mere moments ago , while still LOCKED in his slumber . “ the knowledge that they would be there for me should i ever struggle was about the only thing that allowed me to keep daring to sleep at night when i was a boy ... ” still watching her , he smiles again , deciding to test what could be a potentially sensitive topic as he softens his tone somewhat . “ do you miss your old home ... ? ”
