The room was dark, and Felix’s face was lit only by the purple glow of his gaming setup, which created a cozy atmosphere in what was otherwise such a chaotic space. The camera captured his broad grin as he waved cheerfully to greet the viewers, who were already excitedly typing messages after just a few seconds.
“Hello, what’s up, everyone?” he asked the usual platitude. The words rolled off his tongue with his thick Australian accent, which made his already deep voice sound even deeper. “I’m gonna play some League today, guys.” And with those words, he clicked around on his computer and booted up the game, the loading screen appeared alongside his facecam and the numerous live comments in the stream.
“Alright, chat, let’s jump into the first round of the day.” Felix chose his character and started farming items to support his team, which consisted of random other online players. After a few minutes during which everyone tried to prepare for the upcoming fights without any major escalations and Felix chatted casually with the chat, the more tense phase began as the fights started. Felix’s eyes were glued to the screen, and he forgot to comment on his decisions as he took out some of the opponents. But even if he managed to get some minor victories his team was vastly outmached by the others. Felix found himself in a big fight with most of the other players, everyone trying to take over the others base but while a few of his shots went into the void his own healthbar went down by the second.
Then suddenly the door to his gaming room opened, he jerked his head around and blinked in startled. Standing in the doorway was yn, her eyes darting back and forth between Felix and the screen. “Sorry, didn’t mean to interrupt… didn’t know you were live.” Felix’s gaze drifted back to the screen, but the situation seemed relatively hopeless for his team anyway. “It’s okay, sunflower… we were losing anyway. Do you need anything?” Slightly frustrated, he ran his fingers through his long blond hair. “Just wanted to bring you something to eat…” yn held up the plate filled with assorted fruit that she was holding and set it on the desk in front of Felix.
Gently, he took her hand in his after she had put the dishes away and pressed a kiss on the back of her hand. “Thank you, you’re the best.” The chat immediately filled with comments gushing over how cute the two of them were, and Felix had to chuckle slightly as he saw his fans going wild. “They love you, sunflower.”
She smiled a little shyly, in front of so many live viewers. Felix turned back to his girlfriend, a small smile crept onto his face as he watched her squirm under the attention. “I know you’re going out with your friends soon, but do you want to stay here a bit until you have to go?” he murmured, as if speaking only to her, not to the thousands of people sharing this moment with the couple. Her eyes darted to the thousands of hearts and comments that hadn’t stopped pouring in since her appearance.
“You just want to make content out of me, Lix,” she smiled and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “yeah, obviously, Angel.” he exclaimed, with an exagerated eye roll, but his tender eyes gave him away. He pulled her to sit on his lap, wrapping his arm securely around her waist. “I just like having you close and I want to spend time with you before you go out. The fact that the viewers like you is just a bonus.” He smiled and playfully ruffled her hair. A scoff escaped yn’s lips, but she let him, nestling into his warm embrace, shakily letting out the breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding since the attention had been on her.
“What are you playing?” she murmured, not entirely interested in the answer but trying to make small talk. “Just League…” he hummed, burying his nose in her hair and pulling her closer to hide his grin behind the back of her head. Felix always enjoyed holding her close, but it especially overjoyed him when she let him do it in front of basically the whole internet, since he was sure he’d find dozens of clips of them both all over social media once the stream ended. His grip around her waist tightened slightly, some kind of primal desire utterly satisfied at showing off the girl he loved with all his heart. Sometimes even he couldn’t fully grasp that she was actually with him, choosing him, silly old Felix, to spend her life with.
“Are you losing again?” yn laughed at the word “defeat” written in red and capital letters, which loomed large on the screen and seemed to be mocking him in front of everyone. Felix gasped playfully in mock indignation. “Excuse me, but because of whom did I lose again?” He playfully pinched her side, causing her to giggle and squirm in his arms, albeit involuntarily. “Yeah, yeah, if it makes you feel better to claim it’s my fault and not because you’re just bad at it.” She turned in his embrace so she could grin at him more mischievously, as if teasing him were the greatest joy she had in life. Felix’s mouth twisted into a big pout because of her provocative words. “Why are you so mean, Angle? Besides, I’m not that bad.”
“Aren’t you still bronze?” As soon as the words left her mouth, a squeal followed, one Felix caused by tickling her side as punishment. The little laugh lines around her eyes, which only appeared when her mind was carefree, were clearly visible. Felix, who continued to tickle her, exclaimed a tiny bit too loudly: “I’m not bronze, I’m emerald!”
The viewers in the chat all found the couple’s interaction incredibly cute and authentic, many laughed at how good Yn was at rage-baiting her boyfriend. After about a minute, which felt like both an hour and a second to Yn, during which she had wriggled beneath his tickling fingers while laughing, Felix slowly let up until he finally stopped, still pouting. Yn kept laughing, even though she wasn’t being tickled anymore, and the corners of Felix’s mouth were twitching suspiciously too. His eyes were already impossibly soft because of Yn’s hearty laughter, making the area around his heart feel all warm.
“Should I prove it to you? Want to bet that I’ll win the next round?” Felix was always confident, but her pretty laugh gave him an extra boost to prove her wrong. “Okay,” she said with a grin, holding out her hand to him to seal the deal. “But if you lose, you have to transfer me money for shopping.”
“Deal!” With newfound enthusiasm, Felix dove into the new round, farming items in preparation for the battles, coordinating with his team, and taking out minor enemies. Throughout all this, however, he kept yn safely on his lap, much to the delight of his viewers and, if she was honest, to yn’s as well. After about 10 minutes of preparation, the game entered its decisive phase and the bigger battles began, battles of which yn understood just as little as she did of quantum theory. But what she did understand was this: Felix was gradually killing all his opponents. Together with his teammates, he captured the other team’s base until the game was finally won. Felix grinned triumphantly and couldn’t help but let out a “ha!” as he spun around in his gaming chair, still riding the high of victory. A laugh escaped yn, not in the least disappointed that she had lost her bet, and she proudly wrapped her arms around his neck. “Congratulations, babe.”
In his exuberance, Felix pressed a gentle kiss to yn’s lips, who practically melted into his arms. “Love you…” she murmured against his lips before her gaze drifted for a millisecond to the excited chat.
Her phone vibrated in her pants pocket, and she broke free from Felix’s tight embrace. “I have to go, the girls are here.” Felix just nodded and squeezed her hand before letting her go. “Have fun, sunflower.” His eyes were soft as he watched her wave goodbye and disappear backward out the door to his streaming room.
He turned back to the stream and, with a smile, ignored the flood of comments about him and his girlfriend. Instead, he focused on seemingly normal topics and continued his stream as if nothing had happened, but before he started the next round, he tapped briefly on his phone, then blacked out the screen and pressed the keys to start. “All right, chat, gg, but do you think we’ll win the next round too?”
As Felix prepared to face his opponents for the third time that day, a notification popped up on yn’s phone with a soft ‘ping’ while she was heading out to meet up with her friends for a long awaited shopping trip:
“Buy something nice, sunflower. 💙”
