Liam Carrington née Ridley, born Jack Liam Ridley-Lowden, was born in New York City to John and Laura Van Kirk. He is the father of Amaro, from his first marriage to Fallon and the father of Hanna, as well as foster father of Giulia, who he raised with Fallon. From a young age, he wanted to be a writer but never fit into the Van Kirk lifestyle. After the death of Liam's father, his mother suffered a nervous breakdown, which led to her berating him and trying to make him perfect. He became estranged from his family and changed his name to "Liam Ridley" to distance himself from the lifestyle he disagreed with. His childhood was marked by his mother's attempts to manipulate him into things that didn't interest him and by a great deal of family drama and dynasty. As a Van Kirk, he still has his birthright to the dynasty. Liam is romantic, stubborn, and thoughtful. He wants to distance himself from his family and be happy as an ordinary person, detached from his upbringing. In his best moments, Liam is compassionate and supportive. He wants to be a loving partner for Fallon and puts her needs before his own. But as his relationship with her deepens and he matures, he also begins to listen to his own opinions and discuss them with her. He gains more self-confidence and trusts that Fallon will still want to be with him, even if he shares his feelings. When he's with Fallon, he begins to realize that his relationship with his mother isn't healthy and that he doesn't deserve to be addressed the way she is. In his worst moments, Liam becomes passive-aggressive and rude. When he's hurt, he's much harsher. This is a stark contrast to his normal self, which is much kinder. Liam feels more comfortable writing about his feelings than talking about them. He writes an entire book about his love for Fallon and, through this experience, begins to realize that he is still in love with her. Through this introspective process, Liam is finally able to understand what he wants, detached from the expectations and opinions of others. While with Fallon, he becomes more self-confident and gives Fallon a calming energy. After his divorce from Fallon, he withdrew from public life, working to become a well-known writer and publishing several books. After finding out that Fallon is divorced, he decided to come to Norway to win her back, where the two got closer again and finally found each other again and he is now overjoyed married to Fallon again.
