RFK Jr. to require a shift in how new vaccines are tested, according to The Washington Post
According to The Washington Post, RFK Jr.’s potential changes could include “all new vaccines will be required to undergo placebo testing, a procedure in which some people receive the vaccine and others receive an inert substance — such as a saline shot — before the results are compared.” (The Washington Post) This could be a “a radical departure from past practices” says a HHS spokesperson, to The Washington Post in response to questions about Kennedy’s comments on the measles vaccines and overall vaccine policy. This is a common testing method for vaccines against new pathogens. However, for established diseases like measles and polio, public health experts deem this approach unnecessary and ethically questionable, as it would deny the placebo group a known effective treatment. This could be a concerning new development to public health, especially considering RFK Jr.’s past anti vaccine position, frequently inaccurately claiming that vaccines cause autism, which has been frequently disproven by multiple studies, along with the doctor that originally reported that losing their medical license.
