Because there was no acceleration in the culture, DDR citizens enjoyed more contact with the earth on which the waiting room was built; caught in this delay, they deeply experienced the idiosyncrasies of their world, all its topographical and historical details... while the delays in the East allowed people to accumulate experience, the imperative to travel forward destroyed any such potential in the West: if travel is a kind of death which renders the world banal, waiting engenders the accrual of substance.

With the shift towards the tertiary economy (services, cultural goods), culture is less and less a specific sphere exempted from the market, but its central component. What this short circuit between market and culture entails is the waning of the old modernist avant-garde logic of provocation, of shocking the establishment. Today, more and more, the cultural-economic apparatus itself, in order to reproduce itself in competitive market conditions, has not only to tolerate but directly to provoke stronger and stronger shocking effects and products... Here again, as in the domain of sexuality, perversion is no longer subversive: such shocking excesses are part of the system itself, the system feeds on them in order to reproduce itself. Perhaps this is one possible definition of postmodern as opposed to modernist art: in postmodernism, the transgressive excess loses its shock value and is fully integrated into the established artistic market.

[Capitalism] has drowned the most heavenly ecstasies of religious fervor, of chivalrous enthusiasm, of philistine sentimentalism, in its icy water of egotistical calculation. It has resolved personal worth into exchange value, and in place of the numberless indefeasible chartered freedoms, has set up that single, unconscionable freedom - Free Trade. In one word, for exploitation veiled by religious and political illusions, it has substituted shameless, direct, brutal exploitation.

ââGive up desires,â is the essence of the discipline enjoined by the Bhagavad Gita, the New Testament, and the Buddhist Tripitaka scriptures. Why? There are two reasons. First, the mind must be made free to seek the Truth. Second, the will must be set free to express it. People who are controlled by any desire and who cannot control it have a warped outlook. They unconsciously demand that Truth should conform with their desires. They cannot 'see straight,â cannot apply themselves wholeheartedly to inquiring into Truth.â
â Paul Brunton, Instructions for Spiritual Living
Reading Ayn Rand for any other reason besides comic relief should be a punishable offense.
âIndeed, in the 19th century, womenâs health care was literally wrested from the hands of women healers- including midwives, spiritualists, and other lay womenâs healers-to create a lucrative ob-gyn profession controlled by men (Banks 1999; Ehrenreich and English 1978). Such biomedical hegemony was achieved in part by force-for example, by making lay midwifery practice illegal in many states. But this switch from midwifery to ob-gyn was also achieved by consent, as birthing women became convinced that biomedicine had something useful to offer them.â

Why buy an electric car when you could work to install and eco-authoritarian state that will disinherit the rich and use their wealth to develop viable nuclear fusion technologies and mass transit systems?
Happy 35th birthday Tetris! The game was introduced on June 6, 1984.
Tetris was created by Soviet IT engineer Alexey Pazhitnov. It was based on the game of Pentamino that he read about in âScience and Lifeâ magazine. Pazhitnov wrote the game for Electronika-60 computer, it was then customized for IBM PC by 16 y.o. Vadim Gerasimov.
When I was a kid, I had portable Tetris and spent hours playing it. Have you ever played Tetris (in any form)?
Tetris is the only acceptable video game. All others are too be destroyed.
I wanted the cool Blade Runner cyberpunk not the âKidult technocrats running social media platforms sending your private info to banking institutions and journalists to unperson you over an edgy jokeâ cyberpunk.
