I get people should face consequences for racist remarks, but I am tired of a company THRIVING OFF THE NAME OF AN ACTUAL NAZI and then everyone being like “ohhhhhhhh *beauty youtuber* is cancelled” and everyone ignoring that buying Chanel beauty is the same as buying a bag with fucking Adolf Hitler’s initials
First and foremost, I think it’s very possible, and likely, for people to be upset by BOTH of these things.
Second, I am not a person of color. I do not know if you are a person of color. But when it comes to people who are attacking marginalized groups, I don’t think anyone has the right to tell them when it’s time to get over it.
Something the woman in the second video says- and she probably provides the most fair and balanced analysis of Jeffrey Star I’ve seen- is that racism doesn’t have an expiration date.
Putting aside the opinions I have for Jeffree as a specific individual and that I personally have accepted his apologies (something you by no means are required to do).
People being opposed to Jeffree is not what bothers me. However, I think there is a huge distinction to verbal abuse/hate speech, and supporting and aiding genocide, and it angers me greatly that people often ignore the latter in favour of bashing the former. Yes, Jeffree deserves consequences for his racist background. But, a multimillion dollar company is facing no consequences for putting the initials of a Nazi warcriminal on all of their merchandise, while selling the idea that their founder was a woman of "grace and elegance" instead of acknowledging her true nature.
Of course you can be upset about both situations, and if you are that's fine, but it is greatly concerning the amount of media coverage and public outrage Jeffree sparks while a company founded by a legitimate Nazi agent flourishes.
