Our New Logo For SecretRevelation
Interview with Azanor of Thaumcraft2
Q1: When did you first begin playing Minecraft?
Answer:A little over a year ago.
Q2: What was the most memorable thing you did in your first world?
Answer:I can't really say, it was so long ago I bet it involved being chased by creepers though.
Q3: What inspired you to begin modding?
Answer:I liked all the technical mods like Buildcraft and Redpower, but there weren't many big magic themed mods that filled a similar niche.
Q4: What inspired you to make Thaumcraft?
Answer: See Q3 Thaumcraft is my first and only mod so far.
Q5: What IS Thaumcraft? What purpose does it have?
Answer:Tough question. It was originally just a magic/discworld themed mod that added certain automated processes similar to mods like Buildcraft or Industrialcraft. At the time though I specifically aimed it at adding automation for farming related stuff. It sort of expanded from that, especially after I discovered the existance of Sengir's amazing Forestry mod. Thaumcraft is a lot different from now than what I initially planned for it.
Q6: Why do you think Thaumcraft was so successful?
Answer:Well, it is not really all that successful.
I suspect it is because I'm not happy with adding something unless it looks/feels cool to use. The functionality may not be unique, well coded or particularly useful, but if you have fun using it or looking at it that often counts for a lot. That's Thaumcract in a nutshell: Style over substance and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Q7: How much time are you spending on average each week on Thaumcraft?
Answer:Way too much. I will be cutting back a lot now that TC2 is out. I made the mistake of setting myself the end of March deadline, but if I didn't I probably would have kept on coding it forever and never releasing it.
Q8: What do you see in the future of Thaumcraft?
Answer:No idea. Eventually I might add something like a new dimension. Nothing as complete as Twilight Forest for instance - something more limited like the End. A place you visit for a specific purpose.
Q9: What are your plans for an SMP version of TC2?
Answer:None at the moment. Rewriting TC from the ground up for TC2 ended up being a lot more work than I expected. A lot of the code I used won't translate well to SMP and I will currently I don't have enough time to support what would be two completely different version of the mod.
I'm going to wait for Mojang to redo the entire modding/smp side of minecraft.
Q10: If there will be a SMP version, will you allow the mod to thread unlike many other smp mods?
Answer:Honestly I'm not even sure what that means. I haven't even looked at the SMP side of things or how it works.
Q11: What is your opinions on the Future of Modding?
Answer:While I'm a supported of Forge and Modloader I do hope that eventually the need for them will fall away. With a single API built into MC itself more (possibly all) mods will be able to work together.
Q12: Do you have anything to tell all your fans?
Answer: Watch the skies...

Conversation with Darenton2k7 - A veteran Minecrafter(please excuse the dislexia~Darenton2k7)
what is your main contribution to minecraft and it's community or what do you do in minecraft most of the time?
play SSP, help people with projects, ask them not to credit me,
ysed to run a server lol
got annoyed and quit SMP
how many projects have you done?
and what are they
how many = alot, what they are (well ime not takign credit and staying anonymous kinda negates that question)
hahaha yea i guess
what are your opinions on mods and minecraft?
depending on who the modders are i think they are doing a great job, but some of thier ideas are 0100% rediculas
hahahhaa
mhm?
alblaka, player, richardG and alexthesax (whos MIA atm) have doena remarkable job on ic2. eloraam has done a good job on redpower.
lol
spacetoad has donea great job although some of his recent changes wer elong overdue he took too long to fix such small issues, but its udnerstandable with his busy schedule
the fact he handed it to krapht and sengir was a great move on his part
although handing minecraft forge to lex was a bad move
why?
his rediculas 3 rev releases a day is horrile
he struggles to fix issues
ah..
he just isnt really helping modders
hes causing issues, he shouldnt be releasing soo many builds and fixes as he fixes them
he should release when hes stable and not full of annoying issues
you certainly have a point
X3n0 has done a great job too, he had a few minor issues with bugs when he first started (whe i first found EE) but hes managed to keep the bugs and issues minimal and quickly fixed
and his big project hes working on is gona be either a great move, or taking away what people loved about EE
its a risky descision but theres no telling what the outcome will be
hm, did he say it's going to replace ee2?
but its good hes not staying safe, and taking a risk
becuase last I talked to him he said he's going to be supporting both..
shows courage and not really all about pleasing everyone else
sometimes doing what you want is goood too
that's true
im not sure how much i can disclose about his projects
so im gona not say anythign about them not to step on toes
he's shown me his plans about it
dont worry
hahaha
i know he's takign out a lot but i think his idea is good
especially on smp servers
but moving on,
what do you think of minecraft's future?
mincraft has a great future provided notch isnt alowed to touch it
haahhahahah
XD
I think that's the general concensus
lol, jebs promises that mc will be more modder friendly, is "ill believe it when i see it"
but im not holding my breath
hahaha XD
Interview with iChun of Portal Gun
Q:Good day iChun, Nice to have you here with us today. How have you been?
Doing alright, just updated the portalgun mod to 1.2.3 of Minecraft a few hours back. Currently 4.15 am in the morning where I'm at but no big deal.
Been down with a cold for a week though... But I'll live.
hahaha, wow. That's a lot of dedication.. whenever I stay up that late I can't function the next day. A lot of people don't know the modders but more by their mods, so while on the subject, could you tell us about how you came to play minecraft?
It started around the end of 2010 when one of my friends suggested playing Minecraft online. Previously I've never heard of Minecraft at that time so I wasn't very sure about it. We spent quite a while trying to get an alpha server up.
Oh indeed, server management is quite fun isn't it ;)
Eventually we finally got it working but found it pretty buggy, smp wasn't known to be very stable back then, but we managed somehow and it turned out pretty good
At the time you still couldn't kill mobs and you couldn't be hurt by mobs and all inventory was still client-side
and how was your first server experience?
Well my first impression was that the game was pretty buggy. But it was understandable since the game was still alpha and all. We shelved Minecraft aside for a while until the health system worked. After that did we only get a better and smoother experience playing Minecraft
what was the thing about minecraft that attracted you? the gameplay or the building aspect?
Well at first it was the gameplay. Never seen a game made out of blocks like that so it caught my interest. We didn't build much at all at the start, just basically working our way and living underground
and how was your first creeper experience?
Eventually as it progressed I lost interest in survival and started being more interested in building stuff, the creative aspect.
Well my first creeper.. hmm it was so long ago I can't really remember. But my friend had already told me about them so I knew what to expect
ah ok :P
thank you for sharing ^_^. now what inspired you to add portal guns to the game? Of course Portal was one but what prompted you to start modding?
At first, I lost interest in Minecraft for a while. This was while Minecraft smp didn't have a proper health yet. Then one day another friend introduced me to mods. The one that really got me interested was a mod called builders. One where people would spawn and randomly would start building structures. I played Minecraft every once in a while with mods, even trying out zombiecraft one day.
mhm?
Then while randomly chatting with said friend, I got the idea of wanting to do a Minecraft mod. Initially I didn't know what to do, nor how to do it, so we thought for a while. Eventually he mentioned the portal gun and that became the basis for the mod. Yeap, the idea for me to make the portal gun mod actually came from a friend of mine. So that day I started to learn how to use MCP and learn java at the same time. I came on irc and went into #mcp-m
hahahahaha, this really makes things interesting. Programmers mostly come from doing independent work, not through school. And this is a prime example of it. But do continue :)
Well as I stated earlier I had no experience in java whatsoever and only started learning it as I worked on the mod. I did have a year of experience in JavaScript, and some experience in modifying plugins for Sourcemod (Left4Dead2), but that was it at the time. I started off by looking at another mod called MineColony, which had a public source. So then I began modding. At the very beginning I got a lot of help from oku and _303, but as times passed
I was pretty secretive at the time too. Even though oku and _303 were helping me with my issues I never actually told them what mod I was making
Good tactic, prevents competition ;P
It's more of a trait of mine rather. I never really tell others about what I work on.
that's always a way of going at it I guess. Keeps the people guessing.
hahaha
So let's talk about Portal gun, it has gone through it's first aniversary recently and Many things are changing, could you share with us some of your plans for the future?
Well that's a secret. :P
There are some things I can say, but these are just plans, not promises, of course
I think that would be good. ;)
what are these plans? :)
A clear plan would be to bring back most, if not everything, that used to be in the mod before I decided to recode it
At this point, after the update to 1.2.3, only the radio and the checkpoint block remains, though I'm thinking twice about the checkpoint block.. I would probably do it in a very different way or not return it at all
What made you think twice?
Basically just the way it works. Also one of the reasons I initially didn't want to bring the High Energy Pellets back.
Some elements of the mod... Weren't really stable and bug free in the old mod (before the recode)
Ah I see.
Rather have it working well :)
The spawners, hep, and checkpoint were one of the few in my opinion. Which is why I had to think it over. The spawners had to come back, clearly, since they had a huge use. The HEP, I only decided to bring back after huge demand for it on the forums, which leaves the checkpoint block... I'm still thinking about that.
The next clear plan would be SMP, of course. This would probably take a while to do, especially since the last port took over a month of coding and testing full time. Sadly I don't have that much time anymore.
I do spend a lot of time on the mod
hahaha of course, the mod doesn't bring in the bread and butter :P
Yes, very true indeed.
That's quite the news for server admins of modded servers :)
I'm sure excited
^_^
There's also at least one more feature addition I'd like to implement before SMP, not yet in the works but next on the list. I won't say what it is here, but I have mentioned it a few times in the #direwolf20 channel. RichardG, who's working on IndustrialCraft, seems particularly impatient about it :P
Is it related to the game?
Minecraft or portal rather?
portal
Because I would love to take a wild guess at this.
Yes. This was meant to replace the HEPs not returning.
You can guess, but I can neither confirm nor deny your assumption
That's how unfair I am :D
hahaha
I'll just guess the cores :3
I would love see those ingame
Spaaaaaace~ hahahaa
But enough of that.
Speaking of the future, can you comment on the direction of the future of modding for minecraft?
Ah okay, this will be one exception.. it may be sad to see this, but I have no plans in the near future to make cores or glados. I honestly find not much of a point in them
O:
No cores~ hahaha I guess not. Oh well.
One day someone will do that :)
Though plans might change, at any time, I'm just saying that there's none of such at this time
oooh
I see.
Then hope isn't all lost.
(My timing's horrible)
Some may remember that I said I had no plans to make the mod SMP, period, back in the day.. That clearly has changed.
However in the future I may implement my own version of Light Bridges and Gels. One such example was the original Aerial Faith Plates mod by LokiDarkfire.
I see.
Then we'll have a fully functional Portal 2 in Minecraft :) or might at least in the future
There was someone who made Portal 1 sometime last year... CompC was his name iirc.
What happened to it?
It was completed. I lost track of what had happened to it though.
Must have been inactive.
His post can be found somewhere in mcf with a bit of digging, I'm sure.
hahaha probably.
Speaking of the future, can you comment on the direction of the future of modding for minecraft?
The future of modding... That's a little shady. I remember back in May, notch came to talk to the Modders about making a modding API for Minecraft
Here we are now, in March the next year, and Minecraft still doesn't have a modding API. Many plans were discussed but were none carried out?
Certainly disapointing.
Do you think the API will allow compatibility across the mods?
It is mentioned that jeb will include the API in the next major Minecraft update, 1.3. It is only something I've heard, only a rumour thusfar imo.
He said a server API
:)
But honestly I think the way Minecraft is handling at the moment with mods is fine.
Jeb said that the modding API would be advanced enough to allow redpower to port to it. Assuming he means redpower 2, we can expect an API similar to that of Minecraft Forge, hopefully
Thus meaning, compatibility, of course.
That would be pretty amazing.
Indeed it would be :D
I would certainly like to see some major mods that aren't compatible to work together
:3
the possibilities~
(What major mods don't work together? O.o)
Better than Wolves is one prime example.
Ah yes.. indeed.
Thank you for your time and knowledge iChun, is there anything you would like to say to the readers before we close?
(Sec, thinking.)
(k)
Yeah, I'd like to just shoutout to the awesome #direwolf20 community on irc, which made working on the mod so much more enjoyable to do. Thanks for reading, its been a pleasure with you SR, thanks for any support I've been given, and pretty much thanks in general.
And thank you for being here today iChun, I hope you have a nice day and we're all looking forward to your mod. Thank you everyone and Come back next time for another Interview with the Community.

[00:10] wazup
[00:10] ?
[00:11] oh hi :) ok well I just had a few questions and suggestions :)
[00:11] and I was wondering
[00:12] if you could have a section on minecraft.net that lets users submit the mods and maps
[00:12] because the current situation right now with
[00:12] user created content is that they are not organized at all
[00:13] And I have started a project to get it organized but I believe that if you guys do it, then it would be more useful for the community,
[00:13] are you talking about minecraft?
[00:13] we're currently writing programs that gets the information and organize it
[00:13] yes
[00:13] well that is a part of the mod api
[00:14] it will come later
[00:14] ah
[00:14] ok
[00:14] wait so
[00:14] there will be an actual user interface with the mod api?
[00:17] that's the plan
[00:17] interesting.
[00:18] Will there be a way for users to be able to distribute other content in that interface as well?
[00:18] such as custom maps, seed sharing, LP , movies, and such?
[00:28] if you don't, we can help.
[00:28] because it's already under development. we just need the community to start submitting to get it going.
[00:31] well i don't think you should cancel it
[00:31] because the mod api is going to take a long time to implement
[00:31] any ETAs?
[00:33] the eta is 2012
[00:34] hahaha
[00:34] i like that
[00:35] so what do you think of what we've done so far with the database. (we're using google docs becuase it has a easy to use API)
[00:50] (can you add powered pistons to the game btw? ones that will push entities at high speeds or change blocks into entity blocks and change back to blocks once they make contact)
[00:50] because since the piston mod this has been a lacking feature...
[00:51] no
[00:53] oh well :3
[00:54] hahaha
Interview with Vechs
Q: Hi Vechs, thank you for being with us here today, and to start it off, could you please tell us about what you do and the things you've done so far? Although many people in the community have heard of you, many have yet to find out.
My name is Vechs, and I am the author of the Super Hostile series of Minecraft maps. To date, over one million players have downloaded my work.
Q: When did you begin playing Minecraft?
November 10th, 2011
Q: How big was your first minecraft map? And do you have it still?
Yes, I still have "Davion Keep" saved as a schematic. It was my castle, Davion Keep, and then an elevated rail line over to my bedrock-level mines, and then another rail line to a second castle I made on a mountain called Cloudspire Keep. I think the world got to 800 x 800 in size. I never really explore a long distance away from my "realm".
Q: What inspired you to begin making maps?
I felt that Minecraft wasn't very difficult, and I wanted to make survival maps that gave the player more of a challenge.
Q: Why do you love leather pants so much?
It could be accurate to say that I am a Zistonian.
Q: Do you use any mods?
Nope. Too much of a pain to keep updated. Also mods could pollute the maps I'm working on with modded content. I do not want to send people anything other than vanilla map files.
Q: What are your future plans for map making?
Along with updating or remaking my older maps, I am planning on making in the future an urban map, and a snow/ice/mountain map.
Q: Do you ever give constructive comments to other mappers who ask for your help since you are experienced?
Yep! I get a lot of private messages asking for advice.
Q: What are some tips you can give to the mappers out there?
Try to hide your obvious MCedit brush strokes, if possible. Unless you're making a pyramid or dome, there really shouldn't be any perfect diamond or sphere shapes in your map.
Q: What are some tips you can give to custom map players out there?
Look up, stupid. Keep a chest with a backup set of gear. Don't lose your last sapling. Take a half-stack of wooden planks with you when you explore. That way you can always manufacture any tool or item you need. Oh yeah, also, I hate you, die in a fire.
Just a 5 minute design
