Instead of getting a divorce, Hikari (the mom) convinced Ryusei (the dad) to stay in his business job, continuing her control over the family. Even if she didn't like having kids, Hikari did enjoy the control she had over her family.
Due to Hikari's transphobia (also homophobia, racisism, and prejudice against heteromorphs), Denki/Kiran was unable to transition at all. Denki picked up on all of those, and while having a more open mind, he still has those thoughts but doesn't speak up on them.
She forced Denki to go into the hero course. She tried the same with Marai (the brother) but he refused.
Marai moved out as soon as he could to get away, while Denki stayed and is still with them.

After the blunder of a text message a few days ago, Kaminari hadn't shown up, he's been showing up less whenever he made a mistake. Which sucked because he liked showing up since Shinsou's café was the best.
So when he came in today, he noticedthe slower day and knew it was probably the best time to talk about it. But that didn't mean he wouldn't be a coward and avoid it. "Hey Shinsou! Can I have my usual?"

Shinsou barely spared Kaminari’s a glance, already knowing what the blond liked. It wasn’t worthwhile to ask him, not when he would much rather get stuff done. Sure, the café was slow, but that left Shinsou with much more to do. He was constantly busy.
It didn’t take long for him to put the items on the counter. “And please don’t try to pay. Okay?”
"Why do you insist I don't pay? It's hot really good for business." And he wasn't very keen on being treated differently for being a hero, it just didn't make sense to him. It's not like heros were so special.
“Hero discount.” All places did it, no matter how much they may dislike heroes as an idea. It was just simpler to be protected. Besides, Shinsou made enough to care for the cats without depending on money made by heroes.
"Bullshit! That's free, not a discount! Besides heros aren't all that anyways!" Especially not him, he was just a sidekick, he wasn't even an official hero.
“Discount. As in a reduction. That reduction just happens to be 100% of the original price. Now, can you please just… not pay?” It wasn’t time for him to get into his dislike of heroes. Shinsou would probably end up on some list.
"Just let me pay like everyone else, please, Shinsou. I want to be normal, like you." He didn't want some special discount. He wanted to pay and contribute to society, help small businesses. "So will you please take my money?"
It pissed him off to have his wishes continue to be fought. But, Shinsou knew to be calm. To not cause a fit. He needed to keep some semblance of sanity as Kaminari continued to attempt breaking his set up. “I already said no. I make enough already. People adore the cats.”
"Fine. But I like you, so if you ever need some financial help, I'm just a text away." He left the counter without paying to go sit down in his usual spot.
He knew Shinsou had the discount for a reason, but he always felt like an asshole for not paying whenever he ordered. Maybe he should stop being a hero, then he could pay for it. But that also meant job searching, which wouldn't be the best to go through.
Or maybe only come when he's off the clock completely, then he's not a hero!

When he went to leave, he looked over at Shinsou and walked over to him. "Hey. So, you're really cool, and I know last time I couldn't because of hero work. But I'd like to go on a date with you, if that's okay."
Shinsou instinctively looked behind him, not fully expecting to be addressed. People typically just left the café, not staying for idle conversation with the person running the place. “Uh… I don’t-”
