Week 1: Exhibition Review of Superstudio 50
This summer I visited Rome with my mother for a holiday; we have been there in the past for sightseeing purposes, but this time we wanted to visit some museums as well.
I really love modern art and the architecture of Zaha Hadid so we had to go to MAXXI. The museum is a piece of art in itself. I was amazed. I loved the ambience of the museum and enjoyed walking around, getting a feel for the place.I visited all the exhibitions that were available by that time. My favourite by far, was Superstudion 50.
It was an architecture exhibition by group of Italian radical architects. It presented works from The Continuous Monument series (1969) which I really enjoyed. They mixed technology with the nature by editing pictures together. For me it meant that how urbanisation effects on the world. That before urbanisation people were just living in the nature without technology.
With this exhibition they tried to explain the meaning of architecture on earth. On the second photo you can observe a continuous monument on a waterfall like how it would look if they would build it on it. I also really like how they depicted the monuments with a simple drawing.
They also used every day pictures for example, a picture of a man with a dog in the illustrated urban environment on the 4th and 6th photo.
Since I enjoyed this exhibition so much I’d wished to see the original pieces in New York so I went to MoMA in hope that they would have them on display there but it turned out unfortunately, they weren’t available there. They are found in the other Museum located on long Island.
From my experience, I suggest to everyone who has some spare time on their hands to check out this exhibition; even just on a browse on the internet, because it’s really worth it!!!
(I took all the pictures that I attached of the exhibition except for the on I’m on.)
