Put is officially on my shit list. I already wasn’t rooting for him obviously, but the way he showed up with Pat in this episode cemented my dislike.

Crossing boundaries at Pat’s job, ignoring Pat while he cooks and serves a meal for him, bringing out that stuffed shark every time he wants to manipulate him. Pat has a shitty day at work and Put makes it about himself, asking Pat to reassure him instead of focusing on how Pat is feeling. Pat asks him point blank for affirmation that he likes him and he doesn’t give it to him, instead he deflects and makes it a joke. I don’t know why he even wants to be with Pat, he doesn’t seem all that interested in him.

And on the other hand, we have Jeng. Jeng who pays attention to Pat, who appreciates and praises his work, who respects him and asks for his opinion on things, who is attuned to his emotions and generally invested in just doing what he can to make his days brighter. Jeng who clearly knows Pat is dating Put again and is handling that like the mature adult he is. He’s not happy about it, but he’s also not losing his mind over it. He’s carrying on with his responsibilities and taking opportunities to be kind to Pat and just generally keeping his powder dry.

I’m glad that as Pat struggles to sort out his feelings, he is getting regular exposure therapy to a better man who is actually interested in being a partner. And judging by his thoughts at the end of the episode, I don’t think Put’s place in Pat’s life is long for this world.
