y'all gotta stop judging and measuring nonhuman characters but human standards. it's a fantasy story, please engage with the fantastical in an earnest and upfront way and don't just endlessly shrug it off as allegory
thimble was not a child during the 22 cold open. she is a member of a race of magical people who are functionally immortal and remain childlike in appearance (to humans observing them) forever unless they're cut off from their magic source. trying to judge thimble as "child then, adult now" when she's not a creature meant to experience aging the way a mortal does just doesn't engage with what fairies and other magical creatures are within the text. she's not a human, her conception of aging and adulthood and growth is going to be radically different from anyone else who lives a mortal life on araman. she rags on wick by telling him she's older than him because he condescends to her and acts like she's a child because she's small, but she did not grow up into maturity the same way wick or occtis or thjazi did because she's a magical being. how old is she? somewhere between 30 and who the hell knows.
it's the same issue with bolaire. bolaire is not human, his conception of every single human experience is filtered through being an inhuman entity who will never experience humanity the same way as literally any other mortal creature on aramán. every single thing you think of, bolaire's relationship to it will be alien and strange and, often times, uncomfortable. to flatten him to "well he's sentient so he's got humanity too :)" is, once again, not the type of character engagement that he deserves
