      He chuckled then leant over, kissing the top of her head then resumed his sight of where they were going. He placed his hands in his pockets, enjoying the feel of her on his arm like an ordinary couple out and about for the night. When was the last time they’d done this? Hell. He couldn’t recall, but it was nice.

The mood as they walked together was light, something neither of them had felt in a long time. Lightness, brightness, the worry all but zapped from their minds. For once in their god awful lives, Lindsay felt at peace. After a moment the assassin stopped, pulling Dan to a halt as well so she could pull the man into a hug, her nose nuzzling into his neck.

        Dan’s attention was completely turned at the sudden words which left Lindsay’s mouth. He had to quickly glance about the room to ensure she wasn’t talking to someone else. Part of him hoping she was. He felt his skin crawl with this sudden unease with the situation and slowly he lifted a hand to rub the back of his neck as he turned his back to the woman entirely. He bit his bottom lip while trying to find a way to respond appropriately.

               – “ Lindsay…I don’t know…I’m not sure what to say.”

The hesitance of the other, sent the woman reeling for words. She shouldn’t have been surprised at Dan’s reaction-- the statement she’d made was a lot to throw at her friend all at once. Maybe, somewhere deep in the Omega, there was a little foolish hope that burned in her heart, fueling the words to spill from previously locked lips. Part of her had wished she hadn’t said them at all.

          “--You don’t have to say anything. I just...wanted you to know. I’ve never felt the need to have an alpha before I met you. You’re...different. Special. It’s not my place to be saying stuff like this, but shit, it’s the fucking truth, and you deserve hear it.”
