AND HERE IT IS FINALLY.

The Hong Kong compilation video. I think I was much more self conscious about this one than the Japan one because I felt like a burden to my friends lugging my camera around and annoyingly taking pictures and filming stuff like the obvious tourist. It’s different when you’re surrounded by American students who are just as easily impressed as you. I could feel my friends silently judging me for filming certain things...

Anyway, this was a monumentally time consuming project because I’m dumb and decided to teach myself the software I used while working on this...because I wanted to use a more complex software and wanted to “challenge” myself from the last time when I made the Japan video. Plus, I made a lot of microscopic edits that only I would know about haha, which is also dumb, but...well, I’m dumb and stubborn :’(

HEY I still live.

I FINALLY finished compiling the clips from my trip in a mildly presentable format....just in case my poor documentation of photos wasn’t enough...

I tried using Adobe Premiere Pro for the first time and let me save you the disastrous 30 hours I wasted: DON’T USE THE RENDER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT OPTION WHEN YOU EXPORT. It doesn’t make a noticeable difference and literally took my comp like 3x-4x longer to export. Also, queue it on Adobe Media Encoder; goes much faster.

Anyway, here’s the mash up for Taipei. Music (in case you don’t read the vid description) is Soft Lipa and he super dope, yo. I just wanna bop and break to the music lol. Enjoy!

Just using the auto settings lol so most are pretty botched since I wasn’t too good at stabilizing it with my own hands and the lighting changed when I moved it. Ah well, but it’s kind of in chronological order of my trip so it’s kind of neat.

I think some of these were posted before, but whatever. I wanted a collective dump of group friend photos in one spot. The rule we tried to follow for these was: tallest person/longest arms has to take the selfies. Now on to play around with the video clips to hopefully get a mashed up video summary of this trip.

Ah man, I miss my friends already. Why do I have to go back to work ugh haha. POST VACATION ANGER

All is not lost haha. Now that I did it, I know I can keep planning trips to see my friends and it’s easier to plan now than when I was at UCI and unsure of my future or situation etc. I will NOT wait 3 years like I did this time. I’ll be seeing my friends soon again!

My absolute last chance at getting HK style food before I land in California...I already know that the next days coming back from HK will be filled with poor eating and trying to readjust my diet.

First meal was fried fish in sweet n sour with lots of veggies and a choco orange mousse. For snacks, they got mixed nuts and a tomato mozzarella pizza bread. Second meal was “dim sum” (lol) and noodles with yogurt and a croissant.

Gosh dang just look at all the carbs lol. All sitting in my stomach for 12 hours haha. Yikes. It was good though and I cried inside as I ate, to be honest.

(More dishes) 6. Fried fish topped with chopped up chilis and sauced. Looooooved this. How could I not? FISH. It’s just too bad about the bones haha. Wasn’t too spicy, but you gotta watch out for the spice to go down the wrong tube of your throat. 7. Soup with lots of mixed bits? You see shrimp, sure, that’s great, but there was also chunks of pig feet or trotters I guess is the correct name. Not sure what the dish is called oops. Potatoes and other green onions. Broth was great! 8. Seafood noodle soup! Shrimps, lil squid bits, I think some sort of sea snail? Maybe garden snail? Really good! The soup was thicker like they may have had starch in it or something so it was a nice change from the other soups. 9. Seafood noodles. Seaweed, shrimp, small clams, squids, and peanuts. I reeeeaaally love when they add peanuts into stuff. 10. Sweet porridge(?) with taro mochi balls like from Taiwan and peanuts (or lotus nuts) for dessert and the last dished served. T’was good, but made me miss shaved ice in Taipei immediately lol.

I couldn’t believe the 7 of us left that much food haha. Disappoint! Oh sad life. Last dinner and group hang out. HK fam roll call (right to left): Jacky, Telly, Vincent, Oscar the Grouch me, Jeff and his girlfriend Joanne, and Janice! It was such a blast. Good food and friends.

After dinner, we all parted ways, but Vincent and I went real quick to Wellcome to shop around for some snacks he had recommended earlier in the day. It was so funny because he grabbed a shopping cart and began filling it all up with all the snacks he liked and I’m just thinking, dude this isn’t gonna fit in my duffel bag, calm down please. It was fun, of course, and I’m always down for the snack attacks.

Then we finally said goodbye and I went back to Janice’s place to watch Netflix and pack haha.

Last dinner in Hong Kong at Putien in Tsim Sha Tsui with my good gang of pals. The guys ordered a dinner set for all of us so the plates were coming out periodically and we would just rotate the table to serve ourselves. It was funny because when one dish would come out, whoever it was placed in front of, they would spin the table so the plate would be in front of me so I could take a picture of it. If a dish came out and one friend was going to begin serving them self, another friend would stop them and say “hey! Don’t eat yet! She has to take a picture first!” They’re so nice about my obvious tourist needs. The dishes (Fujian inspired):

1. Seaweed mush of some sort...possibly like a seaweed salad thing and nicely wrapped in in the cucumber 2. I think some kind of fish cake (mushroom maybe) in some kind of sauce (I know I know, I suck at figuring what these things are and forget to ask because I just eat it) 3. Thinly sliced bitter gourd on a bed of ice. This was bitter, but not too bitter so it was like a nice refreshing bite to clean off your palette. My friends were so impressed that I finished the plate because they didn’t like it at all haha 4. Pig Intestine....ok ok I know I said I would never eat this and was so firm on this while on my trip, but Janice kept pushing the whole time I was there. I was tricked into eating it; I FELL FOR IT....I’m so mad at myself for this haha. I asked what that was and my friends very nonchalantly and casually played it off with each other as “oh what do you call it? I forget the name in English....it’s like a sausage...yeah yeah like that, but I forget the name” so I ate it =( I was immediately alerted when I noticed all 6 of them were watching me eat and I wasn’t sure what the big deal was until Janice said “so do you like it”. Looked like rolled up lunch meats and kinda tasted like ham on a pizza and a bit of Italian sausage. Wasn’t as bad, but still mad I swallowed that lol. 5. Super fried chicken purse and sauce to dip. Standard yum over here. Kinda hard to ruin that ! 6. Ox or beef tail? Super tender meat with a bone cooked in a red sauce. Good! Sauce was kinda cinnamon-y and with spices so it wasn’t like a hot sauce.

Finished up the hike and headed back down since we had to make sure we still had time to meet up with the rest of the gang for the group dinner in Tsim Sha Tsui. Too bad, because I could have been up on that mountain for the whole day tbh. It was a really nice hike and good spots to just chill out on. (I swear I didn’t know Vincent took so many back shots of me lol...maybe 1 or 2, but he ended up doing like 7-9 haha...please ignore the back sweat...it was humid that day....)

After the hike, we went to Ten Ren Tea (Jeff took me here before and I loved it) for an oolong milk tea (I think?...I forgot haha) on Vincent’s recommendation. Good stuff!

Reached the first “view” of the hike. I sat there contemplating my decision in wearing a black shirt. On the one hand, it can hide your sweat more than other colored shirts, but as Vincent quickly pointed out, it draws the sun more soooo....not sure how smart my choice was or not...

Luckily there was more wind the higher you went so it was a great chance to dry up too haha. The view was awesome and seriously, I could sit there all day. I also wanted to take that dragon sign back home too...

Aaaand we’re off to hike Dragon’s Back! Don’t be fooled by the weather....clear skies, sure, but that means the sun is in prime position to burn us....plus humidity....

After lunch, we waited a bit to head over to Dragon’s Back to hike before our dinner with the rest of the group. Vincent had never hiked Dragon’s Back because it’s known as the go-to hike for all tourists and the trail can get really crowded, but I wanted to do it because, well, there’s no hiding that I’m a tourist, but also because the views for this hike overlook the other side of HK Island so you don’t see as many buildings as you do from Victoria Peak and all that.

These views were from our bus ride over to the trail starting point. It was so scary on the bus because the roads are so narrow and not much keeping you from rolling of the ledge of the side of the mountain...

Last full day in Hong Kong (sob) and I spent the majority of the day with Vincent since he had the whole day off. He lives and works by the Chinese-HK border so he rarely comes out to the main HK area, let alone somewhere as far as North Point on the HK Island Line (on the MTR), but he said the trip is worth it for him just to eat at this place. Famous among locals, of course, and legitimized by the fact that no menu is in English...that’s a common selling point my friends give me.

What they’re famous for is the braised chicken leg you see before you. I can see why it’s so famous, though, because that sauce is GOOOOOOOOD. Some kind of soy sauce mixed with cinnamon, sugar, maybe star anise or five spice? Not too sure, but man it was good. I could eat anything if it was braised in that sauce.

The rest of the lunch special, or “afternoon tea set” as it is referred to in HK, included radish fried cake, radish pig blood cube potato soup, and something else not pictured that I forgot. To drink, Vincent got me a red bean iced milk which actually everyone had been ordering for me when I got here. Seems to be more popular with them than the actual HK milk tea (which was my go-to last time I was here). Great way to start the day, to be honest. I would never think to eat food like that on my own because chicken in general is whatever to me, but you do not even KNOW how good that was...

Ok so this must be the 5th time I say this, but I mean it this time: last batch of photos coming up and I’ll be working on editing my videos over the weekend. Almost done posting, but not done sobbing over missing my friends and the food over there
