“He’s just my Tammy” bothers me because they pick and choose when Will’s feelings are considered deep.

The reduction of Will’s love to a crush is disingenuous. Do I think Mike deserves devotion from Will? No. Do I think it’s disrespectful to treat his love as superficial when he suffered over it for so long? Yes. It could be interpreted as Will dismissing his own feelings to protect himself, but the narrative doesn’t frame it this way.

While I do think the "heart" pedestal Will puts Mike on is an example of Will holding onto things of the past, his feelings should've been handled with more nuance and care. This doesn't come across when Mike is included in what was supposed to be a Tammyless film reel. The constant contradiction is frustrating.

Mike is similar to Tammy because Will hinged his self-worth on him. Will understanding that he’s not a mistake outside of how Mike views him was very necessary. This was something I had hoped for even when I believed byler would happen. The problem arises with how Will's feelings for Mike were used in the past.

When Will is using his love for Mike to fix Mike’s low self-esteem and his relationship with El, it’s powerful. Will’s love is deep enough to be piggybacked off of to save the world. But when it’s time for Will to accept himself and his sexuality, suddenly his love is the equivalent of a hallway crush. Queer love is only profound when it benefits a straight couple, apparently.

This is made worse when Will is patting Mike on the back about El’s safety in the next episode. if Noah hadn’t requested the tower scene, this was going to be the first and only time they interacted after he came out. Will is once again a cheerleader for a straight ship. After he reduced his previously powerful pom-poms to a crush. Right.

Then you have to pair this with how they said Robin and Vickie broke up because they're just a high school couple, as opposed to the other (straight) couples whose love ran deep. Not only does this imply that both queer characters experience love on a lesser level, it also demolishes the hopeful foundation of Will's romantic development.

Will's main query this season centers around him getting over his Tammy so he can find his Vickie. Instead of a graceful exit in his love for Mike, he's given hope last minute with Robin's speech about signals, only to be embarassed with a subtle rejection. Will thought Mike was his Vickie despite never suspecting reciprocation in the past. But now he's just his Tammy! Time to move on to better things.

But Vickie isn't the end-all, be-all either. Robin and Vickie don't stay together. When we see Will's future with a boy in a bar, we're meant to believe he found his Vickie that he was longing for. Will this last? Apparently not. Yes, breakups are a part of life, but the show frames multiple straight couples as epic love stories that transcend realism, while queer couples are thrown into the background and treated as less than until it's beneficial for said straight romances.

They Were Roomates

Katsuki and Izuku are living with each other and with Katsuki being the early sleeper he is he both hates and love when Izuku comes home late from teaching. Hates, because when he opens the door his keys rattle, which would be bad if Izuku didn’t have 20 metal All Might keychains attached to them. Loves, because he always knows he made it home safe when it wakes him up.

Chapter 431 analysis. why everyone drew the wrong conclusions.

When the first spoiler frames from the volume came out, hell on earth began, some shippers rejoiced at the canonization, others cursed Horikoshi. I was initially going to say that all these wishes of dirty things towards the author are very ugly: at first, when 430 came out, the Katsudeku shippers rejoiced, and the Izuochi shippers wrote Horikoshi curses, and now it's the opposite, and I would like to ask him to behave decently. I was also upset by the leaks, not only because I liked the other ships, but also because I never saw Deku's romantic chemistry with Ochako, and I hate the trope "a good girl is in love with the main character, he doesn't think about her, but in the end they get married" BUT then the whole chapter came out. And no. In the finale, there is no Izuocha as a canonization at all. At all. And it’s not about the ships, but about the fact that many people didn’t understand what the author wanted to say. It's just that some have already gotten wound up and drunk from the "canonization", while others have started to wind themselves up with their disappointment and savor it, pulling things onto it that don't actually confirm their disappointment", that is, we have a crowd effect.

At first, without context, only by spoilers (it has already been confirmed that some of them are false), it seemed romantic in itself. That is, out of context, you can see how the hero notices a girl at a party after the timeskip, and can't take his eyes off her

But in the whole chapter, this page followed this.

And Deku doesn't look in love here, he looks... scared.

What moments before this does this page refer to and parallelize? And these? Deku, Tsuyu notice that Ochako is very ill and she hides her pain, and forces herself to smile.

And this is what parallels this image, which is confirmed by the context of the whole chapter from the very beginning: Ochako is in pain.

8 years of pain and abscess and this is referenced in her conversation with Tsuyu before the party Next: Deku runs to Ochako as he ran after the war: to save her, he saw that his friend needed saving and urgently.

Ochako herself. You might think that this frame is a confirmation that she still loves Deku.

But the whole chapter had a completely different context.

She remembers this moment as if out of a desire to remember it and feel it again, as if wanting to deceive herself that it is still like that. Just pay attention to the frames: Ochako is shown alone in the crowd, her gait is unsteady, she remembers things that happened 8 years ago out of nostalgia and most likely her wishes will be deceived, that she still has this feeling, because she feels empty. That's why she remembers her conversation with Izuku in chapter 428: Ochako longs for salvation again.

In some form, she gets this salvation when in her head she pushes herself on behalf of Toga to live on. In some way, there is a romantic subtext here, Uraraka on behalf of Toga tells herself that she should let her go and try to experience something else, she herself feels a romantic subtext here, remembering her feelings, but are they in love with each other at the moment?

VERY, very unlikely And, so as not to accuse me, I'm not even a Togarako shipper, because I don't like Toga.

Then the fandom carried on and everyone was charged by each other: Izuku left Bakugo and did not go with him to the agency. But A) it goes without saying that he always wanted to be on equal terms with Kacchan, and compete on equal terms, so he wants to quickly become an independent hero. B) and this is the most important thing. The car and their conversation in the car, which was not in the Friday spoilers, and most importantly the context of this conversation.

During the discussion between Kirishima, Katsuki and Izuku that Deku did not agree to work with Katsuki in the same agency, Deku looks at the signed card with All Might and smiles softly and thoughtfully. It would seem: Deku is happy for his friend

But the Context. This is the same card that was next to Katsuki when he died, and Izuku saw him dead. And Izuku considered himself guilty of his death, that he was not there to protect him, he did not manage to arrive in time to save him, he allowed Toga to drag him into the portal, he was distracted, he did not save.

Deku considers himself - guilty. And this is exactly what goes in the context of the conversation about Izuku not agreeing to be with him in the same agency, although he himself once wanted it. Izuku still thinks that he is too Guilty to be near Katsuki. Hence his running away from him, which Katsuki reads as if he is no longer needed.

But who is Deku? The one who was told to keep his heart under lock and key in order to be the heir of One for All. The one who suppressed his emotions since childhood, and made others always believe that he was okay. Deku - hides his pain after all the traumas of the war still behind a smile on his face, and this is exactly what Uraraka does in the same chapter. That is why Izuku immediately notices that something is wrong with her at the party, because he feels the same way. The very context of how he looks at Uraraka, the guys discuss couples and a happy life, but what Deku remembers before turningon Ochaka? Shigaraki and his injury.

That's why he is the one who reads Uraraka's feelings, their traumas are similar. And as a hero who can't stand aside when someone is in trouble, he runs to give her what she needs: help and salvation. This is not a chapter about the canonization of ships, these are the traumas that haunt them already in adulthood and the story about them.

Oh? Please, Madam

What Izuku rejects is the opportunity to be Katsuki's SIDEKICK. He doesn't reject being a hero or competing with Katsuki. He rejects working FOR/UNDER Katsuki. Which is hilarious because Katsuki accepts (apparently multiple times) showing up as a guest lecturer to help out Izuku's class. Katsuki tells Izuku that "If everyone is special, no one is special," which has the potential for SO MUCH DOUBLE MEANING. But what there is no ambiguity about to me is he's basically telling Izuku "Hey, notice this. I'm treating you special. You're special to me. NOTICE."

It's also implied that Izuku sees Katsuki more regularly than he sees most others from their class, which is emphasized by the previous chapter when Aizawa complains to him about Katsuki's behavior in public affecting his ranking. Katsuki basically tells Izuku he needs to start thinking about himself more, and he also ends their final interaction with a "See ya [later]." Katsuki is NOT talking about Ochako, but Izuku takes some of his advice as the impetus for going to talk to Ochako (specifically they just wanna talk more after the dinner since the dinner is now over and they didn't get to talk). So what was Katsuki thinking of? I personally read his "See ya later" as "You'll figure it out, just go handle what you gotta right now and you can catch up to me later."

Hilariously, Izuku calls Katsuki out for being the one to say "If you don't start thinking a little more highly of yourself, you won't notice the things you should." Izuku's response is basically, "Look who's talking." Again, the potential for double meaning here is painfully obvious. He could be referring to SO MANY THINGS and we're meant to infer what that is. WE GET TO GUESS. Izuku could be saying "You did stuff just as bad as what you're saying," or "You're STILL not noticing something, Kacchan."

And Izuku taking inspiration from Katsuki's words to go talk to Ochako is meaningful in another way--IT MEANS IZUKU LISTENED TO HIM. Katsuki is having an influence on Izuku in a way to improve who he is just like Izuku did for him in high school. Izuku takes Katsuki's advice seriously. NO ONE HAS EVER GOTTEN HIM TO UNDERSTAND THIS LESSON BEFORE NOW. It ends with Izuku and Ochako deciding to talk more, but what it shows us is the beginning of Izuku considering himself more. If Izuku follows Katsuki's advice long enough, he'll end up back in the competition with Katsuki just like Katsuki expects him to. That is just as easy of a conclusion to make from the theme of "inevitability" that Shouto gives us (and that Izuku also takes to heart).

This ending implies that inevitably Izuku's gonna catch up again, basically. Things will continue to change. So yeah, we get a beginning where he and Ochako meet up to talk, but it's just a beginning. It's one night of chatting. They're seeing if something's there now (which kind of implies that there wasn't much there before), but it's left open-ended. And I think it's left open-ended what happens with Ochako on purpose because anyone can read how that ends up however they like. You just have to decide as a reader what's "inevitable" for Izuku Midoriya from this point on. Me? I've decided Izuku is taking Katsuki's advice to treat people who mean more to him better. Ochako is just the beginning. Izuku has other people in his life he needs to show love to as well (because that's what this is, Izuku is learning to show people that they're important to him, that he loves them, because saving people doesn't do that--he saves EVERYONE). And then maybe he'll start to see how the people who love him treat him special too, like guest SPECIAL (same kanji) LECTURER KATSUKI BAKUGOU.

tl;dr there is a lot left open to interpretation and it's probably on purpose, read the chapter however you like, just like we did with the last chapter.

...and my interpretation which is the correct one is that Katsuki tells Izuku, "Here let me show you how to love people, damnit!" to give him the character development everyone has been begging for him to have for years, to realize that saving people doesn't mean they're special to him if he's known for saving everyone ever, so like, maybe go show them you care in OTHER ways, Izuku, and also I'll be waiting right here for you to come show you love me you jackass (and he does, he does come show him that)

I'd like to elaborate that I do think Bakugou is actually dead.

I think that either his explosions were too much, or ShigAfO really got him with that final attack.

I just don't, for a second, believe that he's staying dead.

Horikoshi said he has a moment in this fight that will make even people who hate his character proud, and we haven't gotten that yet.

I know some people are probably tired of these fake out deaths with him, but this one is definitely real, and whatever brings him back, might not even do it forever.

He might only return to finish this fight and end on his own terms, with Deku by his side.

But he is going to come back, someway, somehow, so don't panic too much.

Horikoshi knows the importance Bakugou has to this plot, and he knows he can't properly finish this story without that character, so Bakugou might be down right now, but he isn't down for good. 💥

Thinking about this chapter.

With recent manga developments, I wanna keep theorising. What in the world is Horikoshi planning for Izuku’s and Katsuki’s relationship... well here’s what I think.. and honestly, it scares me.

“You will be useful to me only because you’re the one closest to Midoriya Izuku.” How romantic. And for what? Bakugo Katsuki has been built up for years for this moment. All the times we’ve seen Izuku lose control of his heart from when Katsuki was kidnapped, to him losing control of his emotions during DvK2, to black whip and danger sense activating.. it all leads into this one big, final moment. He is Izuku’s greatest weakness that will be exploited. You’d think this role would be given to a love interest. Only I think… it has been given to one.

Bakugo Katsuki IS the true love interest of My Hero Academia and it seems that Horikoshi is done with implying and is slowly starting to clear things up.

I kept thinking about what was the point of Horikoshi keeping Katsuki in the dark regarding Izuku’s feelings. Katsuki never witnessed anything that would make him know he’s important to Izuku. Each and every time Deku lost control because of his intense feelings for Katsuki, Horikoshi conveniently made sure Katsuki doesn’t see/hear any of it.

So what now? Shigaraki comes through with:

“You are the one closest to Midoriya Izuku.”

But this is only going to confuse Katsuki. It’s a weird revelation because Horikoshi spent eight years hiding this from Katsuki, just to have Shigaraki reveal it to him.. just like that. Just: “Yea you’re Midoriya’s greatest weakness and I’ll take advantage of that.”

It confuses Katsuki because he never witnessed Deku care about him that much.. think about it. Ever since the first war, Izuku has been acting different. He leaves as soon as he wakes up, doesn’t even check up on Katsuki in the hospital who almost DIED for him..only leaves a letter, disrespects Katsuki’s last words before he almost died and does ONE thing he asked him not to..

“Don’t do this on your own.” He leaves Katsuki behind to do everything on his own. This must have really hurt and upset Katsuki and we can see this.. we can see him tearing up the letter..

We can see him sounding angry here.. and I heard Japanese readers pointed out how this whole speech sounds like an angry ex boyfriend left through a text. Only Izuku didn’t leave him with a letter because he didn’t care enough.

No. He knew that if he went to see Katsuki, he would want to come with him. Or stop him even. And Izuku wanted him to be safe.

Later.. Katsuki finds out that Deku even forgot his last words. Which of course is due to Izuku’s trauma but.. does Katsuki see it like that? Katsuki ends up apologising and ends with “I don’t think this will change anything between us…notice how the speech bubble becomes jagged when he says these words..

He wants things to change.

Izuku never addressed this apology, and we even see him ignore Katsuki when he was hyping up his big move. This is something very out of character for Izuku to do. But Izuku doesn’t do this cause he doesn’t care about Katuski anymore. But simply.. because he cares TOO MUCH. He is terrified of the way Katsuki makes him feel, the way Katsuki makes his emotions escalate out of control.

BUT KATSUKI DOESN’T KNOW THIS.

“He doesn’t need me anymore now that he is stronger than me. He is going to leave me behind.. I’m going to lose him...”

These could be some thoughts that are currently occupying Katski’s mind. And so… Shigaraki suddenly dropping this revelation on Katsuki is going to have him feel all sorts of emotions .. but most of all?

Katsuki won’t fucking believe him.

“What are you talking about..? Don’t give me that bullshit…me? Closest to him? That won’t work on me..”

Katsuki will think Shigaraki is messing with him. Messing with the fact that he is already missing Izuku. That he already wishes he could turn back the time and do everything right. But if that’s where Horikoshi is going with this..what would this do? Will it cause Katsuki to do something stupid? Will it finally make Izuku realise his mistakes when he hears Katsuki shut down the fact he is the one closest to Izuku?

Will Izuku have to finally prove it to him when he’s back? Will Katsuki finally witness just how much Izuku cares about him? Yes. Yes he will.

Because we still have 2nds quirk to be activated.

Perhaps when Izuku goes out of control next time, Katsuki will be there. He will be there to calm Izuku down. And maybe.. in sheer desperation to get Izuku to come back to him.. he’s going to spill some emotions out. And it will soothe Izuku’s raging heart. I’ll talk more about this later in this post.

We don’t see Katsuki’s reaction to Shigaraki’s words.. Horikoshi doesn’t show it to us before the chapter ends. We don’t know what Katsuki is feeling or how he took this bombshell at all.

But is this all only Izuku’s fault? Let’s go back to chapter 348 and the mysterious narration.

“Because she never expressed her emotions in words, Izuku never realised how she truly felt about him. Because through all his triumphs, he was still just a shitty nerd.”

The one this narration fits the most is indeed Katsuki. Because Katsuki has never shown his feelings for Izuku in words. He’s shown it time and time again through actions.. but he’s never said it. Damnit.. he’s never SAID IT.

Izuku.. is not the brightest when it comes to this stuff. He knows Katsuki well but.. his words still get to him. Katsuki has been such a tsundere, screaming at Izuku every time he tried to say something nice to or about him. This happening times and times again probably did a number on Izuku.

“He doesn’t like me. Not really…He just tolerates me because I now have a quirk. I am not special to him.”Notice how both of these boys could be feeling the exact same thing due to misunderstandings now?

“I am not special to him.”

Shigaraki will serve as a climax for these two boys to finally realise how much they mean to each other. And it’s going to be ANGSTY. I am not sure what exactly could be AFO/Shigaraki’s plan.. but one thing is sure, he needs Katsuki alive for whatever it is. But I’ll leave that for another post. I got a couple of ideas and I don’t like any of them.

Anyways..It’s why Izuku did a whole 180 after Katsuki apologised. It was the first time Izuku realised that Katsuki always thought of him as someone special. Not just since he got his quirk. And so now, he is confused.

“Does he … could he..return these feelings? I can’t afford to be distracted…” and so he distances himself.

But that’s not enough. Katsuki is still very reserved when it comes to voicing out his feelings and Izuku seems to be the verbal guy. If the narration is a foreshadowing.. Katsuki will have to say something. He is going to have to TELL Izuku how much he means to him.. which in turn, is going to trigger a reaction in Izuku, who is going to open up as well.

It goes both ways. So many misunderstandings between these two.. and to think Shigaraki was going to be the one to trigger this whole thing to finally start resolving? Wow. It feels like a bkdk fanfic at this point. At least the potential of where all this could go.

Izuku seems to be mistaking the “control your heart” statement. He believes the correct thing to do is try to push the feelings and lock them away but…that’s not it at all. What he has to do, is face and accept his feelings. Only then will he finally gain full control of his emotions. Notice how when Izuku thinks about everyone who’s been hurt until this point..

He never thinks about Katsuki.

Instead, in the last panel where it’s supposed to be Katsuki...We see the words “control your heart.” And we can also see that same heart of his.. lose control at the end. I marked it red. And so.. he loses it again.

Because he is supposed to THINK about Katsuki. He is supposed to face his feelings, use those feelings to advantage. Use them to become stronger. But instead? He runs away. He chooses to ignore the feelings, to not think about Katsuki but this only makes it worse.

This is what he is going to have to learn in this last battle. Because if he doesn’t.. he may lose Katsuki. He will be forced to come to terms with what “control your heart” truly means.

And for this, he needs Katsuki. That’s why Katsuki was gone every single time this happened before. The only one who can calm his raging heart down.. is Bakugo Katsuki. But for this to happen, Katsuki also has to open up. What are you thinking, Horikoshi? Are you really gonna go there? And if you aren’t.. all this is so unnecessary…

When you put it this way, it look like an absolutely clear setup to make this ship official. Every single obstacle has been removed. The further this manga goes the further it just seems like Horikoshi really may be one of us. I know we always joke about this but…He keeps doing everything we expect him to do, and this whole final battle will serve as the climax for their relationship. It WILL be in focus. THEY will be in focus.

It’s going to be about hidden feelings, about hearts, about suppressed emotions.. about honesty..I can’t see this going in a platonic direction especially since Horikoshi seems to have shut down Izuocha for good…and the entire “hiding the fact his heart loses control because of KATSUKI SPECIFICALLY” ? And you want me to believe this is supposed to be anything but romantic?

Can we dare to hope….

Listen I know everything is chaotic rn but I have never felt more assured in my understanding of Horikoshi’s writing. Like I’m just sitting here staring off into space knowing Izuku and Katsuki are about to share the most heart-wrenchingly painful, beautiful, desperate, poetic, spectacular display of love because they ARE the most important people in each other’s lives and they always will be. I knew this already but now it’s right there on the page.
