☆ Advice for New CGS! ☆
* I know I usually make posts for little ones, but I was hoping some caregivers could find this helpful as well! I’ve been caregiving for a couple years now, and this is what I’ve found to be helpful 🫶 !
- Learn about your little! Like, actually. Learn!!! Learn their favorite things, dislikes and likes, preferences, triggers, boundaries. Knowing things, even small things, can make a little one feel more appreciated and heard than you know.
- Never be afraid to ask your little one questions. If you’re curious what they need- be blunt! There’s nothing wrong with asking what they need so you can be the best caregiver you can!
- Test out new things and see what you guys like to do together! Every little is different. Maybe you guys like movie night or playing games or finding coloring sheets! Find what’s fun for both of you.
- Reassurance. This is a huge one. You might not even know your little one needs it! But it means so, so much. Even “small” things like being away for the day, or being dry because you’re tired or busy. Just a quick text of reassurance goes a long way.
- Know that every little is different. Something that works with one little may not work with another. Some may need schedules, rules, little gear, rewards, structure- some may not! Some have younger age ranges than others. Some have different reasons for regressing. It all differs, and note that one little you chat with or see isn’t going to be the exact same as another!
- This can be one of the hardest parts- put yourself first. Self care and boundaries are so important. You are allowed to say “no” and not be okay with certain things, or just set boundaries for yourself or your time! If you’re feeling burnt out, there’s nothing wrong with taking a step back. If you’re feeling bad, communicate. You matter 🫶.
