The #cloudforest is home to one of the world’s largest waterfalls at 35 m tall (surpassed by the world’s tallest indoor waterfall at Jewel Changi Airport - see my previous reel!) What was your last magical moment? One of my favorite special moments this year was during this sunrise in the #maldivesislands It was our first trip in 2 years and we had gingerly stepped into the world outside these 728 km² for the first time. We were at my daughter’s favorite hotel (yeah she has high standards). We were fortunate to be staying in an overwater villa (technically reef villa) so the sounds of waves lapping against the wooden planks softly greeted us each morning. My kids are always early risers and the time difference worked in our favor. We would awaken to the soft peachy tones of the sun slowly rising. I’m so glad I caught my daughter searching for flying fish as the sun’s warmth started to reach us. These are the magical moments. I saw @permanent_optimist post about #equalopportunityforphotos so I wanted to share a favorite photo. It’s all video, video, video these days but can’t we step back and appreciate a good photo too? I was lucky enough to be invited by @wsingapore to see how they weave a lust for life into helping guests have a fun and relaxing stay. Of course one part of a great stay involves a great pool - my daughter loved this slide every time we have visited and who can resist the giant floats? The famous W Singapore pool parties are making a comeback soon so check for updates! I also love interesting designs and textures and the hotel was exploding with glass foliage, tufted benches, conical rows of chandeliers and patterned sideboards. You can often score free and automatic upgrades if you’re a higher tier member. Don’t travel often enough? June is wedding month and I can’t help thinking of peonies, which just left #gardensbythebay where I last saw them. Peonies or 牡丹are native to Asia, Europe and Western North America though they likely came from China. It is richly represented in Chinese history and at one time was its national flower. Can you imagine peonies being cultivated for events more than 1,000 years ago?! I always love learning a little bit of history in the installations here! What architecture do you admire where do you live? I’ve always appreciated the architecture of the #nationalmuseumsingapore - it’s a mix of Neo-Palladian and Renaissance styles. While it was originally built in 1849 (It’s older than the country!) it was redeveloped with its gorgeous glass rotunda in 2004. Definitely stop and admire the details in the main rotunda as well as the newer wing. It’s also a relatively quieter museum with a mix of interactive installations for kids to historical exhibits exploring Singapore’s history. How do you enjoy a site when it’s super crowded? My kids and I visited the #cherryblossoms just before #cherryblossomseason at #gardensbythebaysingapore But TBH it was so crowded it made it harder to appreciate. The cherry blossoms here were also not as plentiful as the ones we were lucky to see in Japan. So I just focused on finding individual, yet beautiful blooms like the ones here. How do you pack your bags for trips? So I never previously considered taking my nicer bags on vacation. But since I started collecting my #vintagechanel bags, I decided I really wanted to use them and not just let them sit in my closet. I also felt very safe bringing my purses to the Maldives because we stayed at the resort with no movement to different places in a safe environment. I know people who leave their luxury purses at home depending on the vacation destination so consider the safety of the location. So I use three main methods to pack and transport them safely: 1️⃣Stuff each bag with an insert or pillow to protect its shape when not in use. I used the Fluffy pillow from @mygrandfathersthings for my Diana 2️⃣Place purses in dust bags to keep them clean and for mild cushioning of the corners 3️⃣Carry the bags separately and don’t pack them in a suitcase. I couldn’t imagine crushing and denting my purses. Keep them in a nondescript looking tote bag. One of my favorite spots in Singapore is the Supertree grove at #gardensbythebay I enjoy the #ocbcskyway as well as the view right under it. You appreciate the supertrees themselves when you #lookup - they are up to 22 meters high and truly majestic. I only first discovered #shophouses and developed my love for them when we moved to Singapore over 10 years ago. The earliest shophouses here were built in the 1840s and went through several style updates. Their inspiration drew from traditional wooden shophouses in Southern China (origin of many early Singaporean immigrants). Yet these shophouses, particularly Peranakan ones, incorporated European and other Asian influences as well. Peranakan shophouses were among the most brightly colored shophouses with their bright and bold tones. This #shophouse is a recreation currently at the Flower Dome at #gardensbythebay - don’t you love the colors? Did you know that #tulips actually originated from Central Asia? The Turkish cultivated them as early as 1000 AD! I always associated tulips with the Netherlands so this is so interesting. I’ll have to find tulip fields in Turkey! I get ideas from a few resources including: 1. Local media, especially ones focused on kids or activities around town. What is a great mom bag? I love a good #chanelpurse especially a #chanelvintagebag - but is it really appropriate when you have young kids? Definitely! Here’s how you can rock your purse with little ones running around. 1. Pick a sturdy material. #chanelcaviar all the way for me for a thicker, more durable texture. Chèvre would be my ideal Hermès leather. Waxed canvas in LV purses can be pretty brilliant for usability. Wipe it with a water based wipe after each use. 2. Go hands free with a crossbody, belt bag, or my everyday backpack - keep your hands available to help your kids and not have to worry about putting your bag back on your shoulder. 3. Face the reality you may need to carry another tote bag anyway. 🤣I always need an extra bag with water and snacks for my kids and husband. So my purse is for my essentials and toiletries. 4. Take good care of your bags in terms of treating, cleaning and storing them. Your luxury bag will last a while and be totally worth it. I definitely plan on handing over my purses to my little lady someday. I certainly wouldn’t carry a delicate #luxurypurse around my kids. What kind of setting do you use to take pictures? I do love the classic “portrait” mode for the instant slight zoom with a bokeh effect. Sometimes it’s not perfect though as people end up having fuzzy edges! Also it’s meant for still subjects aka harder for kids or animals. I still use it all the time on my kids though.
