“Eternal beauty. Doesn’t sound so bad. I mean, I can imagine the downsides to it, but more time to explore the world.“ She offers with a light shrug.
It would take a lot more to surprise Isabelle; she’d seen a lot, done just as much and knew that there was still far too much to discover out there. Jessamine’s daughter being an immortal was not a huge surprise. Unexpected, yes, considering that tiny detail was not mentioned in the books she’d read, but the surprise factor was not there. Once she agrees to join her in eating something, Isabelle offers a nod before turning on her heels and making the way to the kitchen, hoping the girl would follow her.
"Love ruins you. My mother learned that the hard way. That kinda lead to me not being as open when it comes to that sort of thing. Hearts are breakable. Just as much as reputation, in some cases.” She quietly informs her without looking behind her.
“Just because the name Lovelace was ruined, doesn’t mean it has to remain that way. You have more than enough time to rectify that. Time is on your side, after all. Nothing is written in stone.”
“I’ve been alive over 100 years, do you think I haven’t tried? Everytime I do something good, people seem to think it’s out of pure selfishness. I’m not a selfish person, I never have been, I always looked out for the good of my family, always a good girl, but no. I’m part-Downworlder, so I’m selfish, and evil, and wrong in the eyes of nearly everyone,”
Will crossed her arms over her chest, following Isabelle to the kitchen. She had tried to restore honor to her family name, but it had quickly become clear that the only way would be to wait until the generation of Lovelaces with no Downworlder blood came around. The thing was, Will was never going to have children, she was scared of messing them up, considering she was still messed up herself. So that fully-Nephilim generation of Lovelaces would never come into existence, and Will had stopped trying to fix the mistakes of her parents.
“Once, I got called to the Clave for something I hadn’t done. By God, was that a fiasco. And all because they’d gotten me in the time where I wanted a break from being a Lovelace, so I’d been going by Wilhelmina Anders at the time. Oh, the Clave didn’t like that, since I was runed, since I was Nephilim, since I had trained, since I had hunted demons all over the world,”
“‘It’s shameful,’ they said, ‘to have a Shadowhunter of the London Institute cast off her name’ and, oh boy, did that start something. ‘Excuse you,’ I told them, ‘I have taken the name of my father because I am sick of being judged for what you all seem to think is a great offense, but is only really a matter of the heart that my mother committed.’ and that went on for ages, and in the end, I didn’t even get tried for whatever they thought I did.”
