Anyone who knows me knows I’m not a fan of having my picture taken. I’m usually painfully aware of how I look in photos and can find a dozen things I don’t like before I notice anything I do.
But this picture that JD took? I love it.
Mostly because I didn’t know he was taking it.
There’s something about seeing myself in a completely unguarded moment that feels different. I’m not posing. I’m not thinking about how I look. I’m not sucking anything in or trying to find my “good side.” I’m just standing there on a mountain, completely calm, completely present, taking it all in.
And somehow, JD captured that.
I also see the physical progress, and that makes me ridiculously proud. I can see what the weight training has done…the definition in my legs, the strength in my body, and yes… I apparently have the tiny beginning of a butt now. 😂
But more than that, I see a body that has become strong enough to carry me through miles of trails and up mountains, and I see a version of myself who feels comfortable enough in the middle of all of it to simply be.
I’m really grateful JD caught this moment, because I don’t think I could have intentionally created a more honest picture of where I am right now.
Strong. Peaceful. Present.
Last hike of the trip - red lodge plateau
Montana, you are my home 🥰
Fun hike. It was actually 15 miles and 4500 in elevation. Not sure how Relive got it so wrong. LOL see Garmin stats
Elkhorn 50K Race Report:
Montana looked at us and said, “You know what this needs? More rocks.”
We started in a perfectly reasonable 70° and quickly rose to 106° (plus or minus “surface of the sun”), with an AQI over 100, because apparently breathing is optional.
The course delivered:
Every rock Montana has ever produced
“Trails” that were more like polite suggestions (possibly bushwhacking with bibs)
Twelve creek crossings….awesome, until you realized they were conveniently downstream from every cow in the county. Nature’s AC, with a hint of livestock.
Moving time: 8:56
Official time: 10:06
That extra hour? Repeated existential check-ins of “Are we overheating?” followed by full-body creek dunks until we reached something below “rotisserie chicken.”
Three monster climbs, and JD decided poles were for the weak. I, meanwhile, was out there double-wielding like a Nordic ski audition… and he still absolutely smoked me uphill.
Rude.
But this is why we come to Montana.
Rugged. Primitive. Brutal. Ridiculously beautiful.
My legs are filing complaints, but my brain is already planning the return trip.
LOL

☕️🏃♀️ A quick Bourbeans™ course correction… because even the best adventures sometimes require a reroute. 🏃♀️☕
If there is one thing I have learned from running 100-mile races, it is this: the plan you start with is not always the plan you finish with.
Sometimes the weather changes. Sometimes the trail conditions change. Sometimes the course gets rerouted mid-race.
The goal does not change. The finish line is still the finish line. But you adjust, make smart decisions, and keep moving forward.
That is exactly what is happening with Bourbeans™ Founders Batch #001: The Beginning.
Yesterday, I shared that this was the first official sale batch of Bourbeans™. The excitement was real. The coffee was real. The incredible support from all of you was VERY real. ❤️
But after taking a closer look at the finishing process and the use of bourbon in creating the signature Bourbeans™ flavor profile, I decided to take a closer look at the trail ahead before crossing that finish line.
Before Bourbeans™ is officially sold, I want confirmation from the appropriate regulatory folks at the Ohio Department of Agriculture and, if needed, the FDA regarding labeling requirements, processing requirements, and whether any independent testing is needed.
Because Bourbeans™ is not just about making a unique cup of coffee. It is about building something I can be proud of. That means doing things the right way, even when it means slowing down for a minute and making sure the path ahead is clear.
So, consider this a course reroute… not a change in destination. ☕️
The Founders Batch is still coming. The story is still being written. The coffee is still amazing.
Thank you to everyone who has cheered me on, encouraged this crazy little coffee adventure, and joined me for the ride.
Every great journey has unexpected turns. The important part is continuing forward.
One mile. One mile. One mile.
And in this case… one perfectly compliant cup of Bourbon-Kissed Coffee at a time. ☕️🥃

Today felt like one of those days I'll remember for a long time.
Bourbeans™ officially made its first sales.
Five bags.
That's it.
Five bags.
To some people, that's nothing.
To me, it's everything.
Every bag represents hours of roasting, experimenting, tasting, tweaking, researching regulations, figuring out shipping, learning about sales tax (who knew?), and asking approximately 4,763 questions while trying to turn "I wonder if I could..." into "I think I actually can."
And because apparently I have fully committed to this adventure, today I also bought my first official piece of business equipment—a color laser printer. 😂
Not exactly glamorous.
No one dreams about owning a printer.
But that printer means labels. It means documentation. It means building Bourbeans™ into a real business instead of just having a really expensive coffee hobby.
Now, before anyone accuses me of being a financial genius... let's do the math.
I sold five bags of coffee... and then celebrated by buying a roughly $500 printer.
So yes, I am currently operating in what experts might refer to as "a slight deficit." 😆
I'm pretty sure this is how every small business starts: spend $500 to make $120 and then enthusiastically tell everyone you're crushing it.
And honestly? I kind of am.
It's funny how success isn't always one giant leap. Sometimes it's five bags of coffee, a printer, spreadsheet accounting, and a growing binder full of plans, recipes, notes, and checklists.
This whole thing has become a labor of love. Every roast teaches me something. Every question I answer uncovers three more. Every little milestone makes the dream feel a little more real.
I'm still learning. I'll make mistakes. I'll probably redesign my labels seventeen more times. 😆
But today felt different.
Today, Bourbeans™ wasn't just an idea.
It was a business.
And that's pretty darn cool.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me, tasted coffee, bought a bag, shared an idea, or simply cheered me on. You're part of this story now too.
Now...back to roasting. ☕🥃
My heart is a little shattered today.
About 25 minutes ago, Jazmine was doing what she’s always loved most…chasing a ball. Then, in an instant, everything changed.
The screams… those shrill cries for help… are a sound I hope I never hear again. They absolutely broke me.
I scooped her up and carried her inside. She’s putting just a tiny bit of weight on it, so I’m hoping it’s “just” a sprain and not a break. My regular vet is closed until Monday, and after what happened to Allyson, I simply can’t bring myself to take her to the Wooster Animal Hospital ER. So, for now, we’re doing what athletes do: ice for 20 minutes, off for 20, then back on again, hoping to get the swelling under control and keep her comfortable until she can be seen.
Jazmine has always been my athlete. The one who never met a trail she didn’t want to run, a lake she didn’t want to swim in, or an adventure she wasn’t excited to lead. She has always lived life with her whole heart.
But time catches all athletes… even the four-legged ones.
Maybe this hurts so much because I know exactly how she feels. Just like her mama, the years have started to leave their mark. The heart still wants to go full speed, but the body has become a little more fragile. Injuries happen easier. Recovery takes longer.
Tonight there won’t be any trails or games of fetch. Just ice packs, cuddles, and whispered reminders that she’s the best girl and she’s going to be okay.
If you could spare a little healing thought for my sweet athlete tonight, I’d sure appreciate it. ❤️🐾
Heal up, Jazzy. We still have more adventures waiting for us…. Even if they are shorter and slower… 💕💕
These are pretty much the usual convos with my adventure buddy….
LOL
And I wonder why I’m single….
