Holding each other
Hey there! On your Heart Hip Harness, how do you get the heart itself to lay so nice and neat? The last time I tried it, the heart came out wonky, and only sat flat if it was super loose, thus ruining the look of the harness. (Could very well be user error, I'm only just getting back into shibari after a very long time of being out of it.)
Hi!! Thanks for asking! This is a pattern I’ve practiced a lot and I would love to share some tips. I’ve also been saying I’d make a troubleshooting post for ages so hopefully this will help with some common issues!!
If it looks like this - you followed the steps right, so you’re on track! But you can flatten out the ropes so they lie parallel and the harness will look a lot better.
To fix that from the start, try to keep your ropes flat on your body, and adjust them when they twist.
Holding them between two fingers and a thumb helps.
Working out those twists helps the whole thing lie flat!
It could also end up more like this -
Again, you followed the steps correctly, it’s just an issue of tension and symmetry here.
I recommend checking the symmetry and tension at each step of the process. Are both sides looking the same?
At the end, you can go back in and adjust individual knots.
(part 2 soon)
This is just another visual for how to move around and adjust your knots.
Another issue a lot of people run into -
You don’t have enough rope to finish the tie!
I use roughly 30ft and it’s juustt on the edge of not long enough, sometimes.
Since this is a symmetrical tie, it’s tricky. You could use a larks’ head tie to add more rope to the end, or -
Carry two ropes of the same kind together, effectively doubling the length.
If none of these helps, please let me know!! I am happy to think up more troubleshooting for whatever issues you have!!
