On January 20th, 2017 the United States inaugurated a new president. A president that most would say has zero respect for anyone but himself. His views on women & their rights are nothing short of disgusting. Our new president has been quoted as calling the women he finds attractive “a piece of ass” & the women he finds unattractive “fat pigs” & “disgusting animals”. He has been recorded saying things like “I’ve gotta use some tic tacs just in case I start kissing her. And when you’re a star they let you do it. Grab them by the pussy; you can do anything.” But this is just the icing on the cake. Women have been fighting for their rights for hundreds of years. Fighting for equality, fighting for justice, fighting for the rights of their own bodies. Just 4 days after president Trump’s inauguration, he signed an executive order barring federal funds from organizations that promote abortion globally, AKA “The global gag rule”, including the international Planned Parenthood federation. Planned Parenthood is an organization widely known for providing abortions to women in need. However, this is not all Planned Parenthood provides the country’s citizens. Planned Parenthood also provides affordable OB/GYN care to women in need, STD testing & treatment to the public, & many more general health care services. Defunding Planned Parenthood will leave many folks without the health care they need & can not afford anywhere else.

Knowing this & being artists that work with hundreds of women a year we felt the need to do something. We can not let our voices go unheard & our frustrations go unseen. On February 1st, 2017 we took to the one outlet we have, photography, to try & get our message as well as the messages of those in our community heard. We put the word out on social media that we were inviting anyone in the area who cares about women & their rights to come by our studio & let us photograph them & their message. The outcome was amazing. Over 40 people showed up in a span of 3 hours to let their voices be heard. Men, Women, & Children of all ages came, some from hours away. Our goal with this project is simple; to express our frustrations & spread them as far as they will go. We feel that the more people speak up & continue to fight the greater the chance we have at making a change. If this project speaks to you or touches home with you in any way we encourage you to please share & spread our words. Never stop standing up for what you believe is right.
