Tower thru trees
Been a while since I did a mini-painting, this one was quick but lots of things I'd try differently next time
3 trees, layered
Layering the trees was beyond my skill level lol
Island
Painted this while my FIL rambled non-stop about his business while seeming to avoid answering any questions, and my MIL gave away our table so I had to wrap up all of a sudden 🙄 however it was a good exercise in distracted, rushed painting!
Bridge pathway
Still shocked at how much more pigment is in my new paints! Getting better at distance and edges.
Calico loaf
I was watching her watch me watch tv
Mountain views
The river was not so brilliant but I wanted to try my new blue and gold paints...! Looking back at this I think I can see some ways to make the trees on the right side a little more realistic, better edges against the lighter green. I do like how the whitespace creates texture in the mountains. Lots to learn about watercolor!
Lake path
Having a path really is a cheat-code for depth! This needed a bit more time but I had to get going to make it home
River stones
I don't think I captured the water very well, but thus was a beautiful spot for a morning sketch. A peaceful riverbend with trees and some mountains in the background
Japanese garden
New blue and gold in my palette! 🎨 Working at using my strokes to create shape rather than texture bc I've found the texture can be too much and very distracting/confusing. Trying to take more from my drawing exp, where shape and boundaries are really key.
I don't love the tree, but I also chose to not spend much of my limited time during this stop on it so *tradeoffs*
Yapper and yapp-ee
Quick sketches in the park
Ginseng ficus
Using my new blue pen for some sketches. I like it a lot! Makes me feel like I'm someone cool and drafting. A man kept blocking my view while on the phone and was so oblivious to the world!
Japantown
Sketched a little bridge to recharge my battery after a lot of sun and walking. Not sure what I was going with this but I forgot to bring ANY of my art stuff so I bought some last minute art supplies from daiso.
Coffee shop under a bridge
I was so done with this painting about halfway through, but the painting wasn't done ugh haha
Was more careful in my first layer about a) leaving brightest areas white b) making it dark enough to stand as a first layer.
Feeling progress, finally :)
Ravine light
I was working on painting 3 layers in a more disciplined manner, so I didn't fully capture the shadow of the ravine. Used a sponge as well in my palette this time to keep my colors bright.
Weekend atrium
There's a cool public space in the city that is open on weekends and has really beautiful architecture and big windows. TONS of college students on laptops
Horizon on the water
Feeling meh about how this turned out, but I have some new ideas of things I can do better :)
Neighborly chonks
They mostly only hold still while eating. Fortunately they love eating hahaha
