Calgary Central Library Part 2.
I’m looking forward to spending a lot more time shooting there. They were not at all bothered by the camera and it’s such a unique place. Btw, one of these shots is on the outside of the Alt Hotel already! They can get a giant print up before I can get a post out.
One last thing, I have some 5″ by 5″ prints left over from the Alt Hotel Media event which I’m going to give away to you guys. I haven’t figured out the best way to do that yet, but stay tuned ツ
more shameless self promotion ツ
The new super huge photos are up on the outside wall of The Alt Hotel in the East Village. I’ve never seen my work printed so large and the wonderland shot is just something special. They all look great and if you get walking around the east village, pop over and have a look. Don’t forget to go into the alt expo inside where there is a couple hundred more of my street photos on display (for a good long time too, they are built right into the lobby).
Sometimes when you partner up with companies you can be a bit worried how they will handle your work and I have to say The Germain group and everyone involved has been amazing and really put the quality of the photos first. I’m super happy with the outcome!
dont forget you can follow the living breathing street on IG and if you take a selfie with the photos, throw me a tag!
the new library is so visually remarkable it’s going to take several posts to really share what I saw there.
I'm feeling the black and white lately. lets run some.
500 Living Breathing Street Photos at The Alt Hotel (Calgary)
In case any of you wanted to see some of my work in real life there are nearly 500 photos on display at the Alt Hotel in East Village. They did a great job reproducing the work and I’m super impressed with the expo.
It’s right inside the main doors so you can’t really miss it. Pop on by and take a look.
June in YYC
every now and then for good or bad you’ll run across or stand beside a person so intensely feeling that the space around them won’t contain it. the city, of course has no place for this. no room. but you’ll still see people bleeding out of the cracks now and then, all their not fitting in-ness and all their not following customs.
This man stood and electrified this corner. his entire body seemed charged with something unseen. The city whirred around him without care. I wonder at what was written on those pages in held so tight but just so much as not to crush them and if he accidentally ended up with an entire plum wardrobe or thought it out. if the plum was a kind of magic or something.
I still, now, look, feeling like somehow he was tied to the energy of the old style train speeding by. the electricity that fueled both and the plum line that runs along both. the intensity with which both will run you over.
I miss these things about the city sometimes. how a thousand thousand stories play themselves against the backdrop of stone and asphalt and no one cares anymore than they need to to get by.
yyc.
things have changed a lot in the 18 months I stayed away but things are also pretty much the same. this city always wants more than it has and want’s to be more than it is and the new brigade of glass and steel monoliths says that very clearly.
there's a cleanness, or newness that wasn’t there before but you don’t have to work too hard to find the same old faces and the same old riff raff.
on sum it was really good to be back walking, watching and trying to see the rhythms. I’ll definitely be trying to figure more street into this summer.
yyc
hey yyc remember me! been a moment.
I managed to find my way in for a day of street yesterday and oh baby was it amazing. so much change. the new brookfield building is up and open and the inside lower levels are amazing. the light. magic. And the reflections it throws onto 7th ave at the bay have basically turned 7th and 1st into a huge beautiful soft box of glowing white light any time of day. I approve.
I did not approve of the multiple security who tailed me and ultimately were about to toss me from brookfield place though. why build such a magnificent foyer area and chase the people who want to showcase it?
anyways, that’s street in the city isn’t it.
lots of posts coming up so sit back and enjoy. if you’re still out there ツ

I've lived in calgary my entire life, born and raised. I've always felt trapped here, never quite finding my way. But you've helped me fall back in love with my city, it once felt like a cage but through this blog I've been able to see the other sides to it.
I gotta say this is one of the best asks I’ve ever had. Nothing makes me feel like all the hours put in are worth it like people saying things like this. :)
