Never once did Violetta think she’d be standing infront of this house again. When she had walked out, that was to be the last time. Even if she had wished the opposite. Even if she had wished to take her son away and stay here with the one man who had believed she was worth something. In a sick way, she had gotten her wish. Not in the way she had planned, that was for certain. It was three years later and she had just spent what felt like the last year on the most fear filled flight of her life with another long drive that seemed to go on and on. She hadn’t let go of her son’s hand the entire time. She hadn’t been able to stop looking at the bruise blossoming on the skin of his cheekbone either.
She imagined she looked a mess. Her hair had long ago fallen out of the delicate french roll it had been pinned up in. Both her and her son and changed from their fine clothes into the simplest clothes they could find. Anything to draw attention away from them. From the wild look in Violetta’s eyes, the way she wouldn’t let go of her sixteen year old son and the bruises that littered both their faces. The makeup had worn off.
With only a backpack each, this was quite literally her only option. Yakov’s only option. All she could do was hope that he hadn’t left, that he was still here. With that tiny sliver of hope, she knocked on the door.
Never in a million years did Odette think she’d be doing this again. When she had handed the ring back and walked out of his life, wishing him to find someone better, she had thought that was it. It had killed her, knowing that it was it. However, that had been her decision. After all, it would have been better for him. Yet, here she was, a decade later, turning up for dinner. She was late. Of course. Tardy was practically her middle name by this point in time. A decade certainly hadn’t changed that.
Blue. She’d worn a dress in that colour without even thinking about it. Blue had been their colour. Blue was the colour of the dress she wore when they went to the Oscars together. Blue had been the colour of the smallest stone on her engagement ring. Blue had been the colour of the sheets they had spent their nights and mornings in. And now, blue was the colour of her cocktail dress. She hadn’t even thought about it. Hadn’t quiet registered the colour, just that it looked good on her, until she was at the restaurant, watching Caius wait for her. Oh god, this was the worst idea she had had in awhile. Even if her dad had seemed far to excited for it once he had figured out who the dinner was with.
Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside, the heat inside almost immediately giving her reason to take off her coat. She didn’t though, not yet. it was that god damn colour. A smile appeared on her lips, somewhat bashful in nature. “I got caught up working, I’m sorry about that.” @caiusmbrandt

Mateo Carmona, a man of both Mexican and American decent thought that Bernadette Thomas was the love his life. They were eighteen, young and naïve to the world. Yet he determined to raise the daughter that Bernadette was pregnant with, to give her the best he could. In his mind, the three of them would be a happy little family. Odette Carmona was born in 1977 and from the moment he saw her, she was the apple of her father’s eye. Unfortunately, her mother didn’t feel the same way. For three years, her mother stuck it out. Her version at least. She was away for weeks at a time, leaving her eighteen-year-old boyfriend with their little daughter. It was clear from the get go that she didn’t want to be a mother, that she didn’t want Mateo. It wasn’t much of a surprise when she broke up with Mateo and left for good. Mateo was twenty-one and little Odette was only three.
Life was okay though. Mateo couldn’t work much due to also needed to look after his little girl, yet they made ends meet. He would come up with stories to tell her, so she didn’t miss out, spend whole days coming up with them. Despite things being difficult, he was still determined to give her the world.
From a young age, it was clear that Odette was quite intelligent. Her father, being a mechanic and not someone overly into academia, found it hard to keep up with her continually growing mind, yet he helped where he could and supported her constantly. While many were intimidated by her intelligence and her drive to discover everything she could about the world, her dad never was.
Upon graduating, she received a full scholarship to the State University of San Francisco. She was there for the next ten years, getting a phD in both Anthropology and Archaeology.. She never did anything by half. While she had to move into dorms, she’d often spend nights back home. Her dad was everything, it was too hard to leave him all at once.
Ten years, at the age of twenty-eight she was the proud owner of phD in Anthropology. It had been some of the best years of her life. She had gotten to travel, to explore the world of the past with nothing stopping her. Her thesis was highly regarded, and her dad even owned a copy of it. To this day, that is one of her best achievements. For a girl who came from almost nothing, it was impressive.
She decided to stay home for a little longer and took up a job teaching at her old university. It was a little funny, the first time she was called Professor, but she loved it all the same. It was during the same year, the year of 2005 that she met Caius Brandt.
Their romance was like a whirlwind, Two years into their relationship, they were engaged and it seemed like nothing could stop them. Yet, that wasn’t true. Odette had never wanted children, the fear that she’d end up like her mother. Her mother turned not to be cut out for parenting, what if she ended up the same. So in 2008, she broke off their engagement. It was the hardest thing she ever had to do, but in her mind, she wasn’t good enough. She had hoped that he could change her mind, but nothing could. Not then anyway. So she left him, ignoring how it tore her soul to pieces.
She also quit her job, deciding that she wanted to travel again, to write more papers, to research. So that’s what she did. For the next ten years, she didn’t settle anyway for more six months. She wrote three papers, all published and discovered more then she ever could have imagined. It was magical. It was enthralling. It was like living in one of the stories her dad told her.
It was only when Odette found out about that she stopped travelling. Her father was the most important person in the world to her. She’d drop everything for him. And that’s what she did. He’d moved to Athens a few years back to open up a new mechanic repair shop. So, that’s where she went. After inquiring and pulling in all the connections she had, she landed herself a job at the local university. It wasn’t too hard, considering her standing in the academic world.
That was three months ago. She misses travel, there’s no doubt of that but she likes Athens. She likes living with her dad again, likes building relationships with people that might last more then a few months. It’s almost like a different kind of adventure.
