My best friend, who is the kindest and smartest and bravest person I have ever had the privilege of meeting, grew up in Afghanistan under Taliban.

JRS was the group that made it possible for her to receive an education and access scholarships abroad. Access to resources like these—particularly ones that enable students to study abroad—can be life-changing.

My heart is with the people of Afghanistan, especially the women and girls whose lives, freedoms, and futures continue to be threatened. May whatever God there is watch over them.

why are scissors packaged the way they are it’s like they’re taunting us. Oh wow this is such a difficult awful packaging to get through that seems to cause physical damage to your hands as some sort of sick self defense mechanic, if only i had something to help get through it, something sharp perhaps

Whenever I hear some random ultra-conservative person say something like “I’m homeschooling my kids so they don’t get indoctrinated and become gay!” I start giggling to myself, because as a person who was homeschooled, I can guarantee that it is not going to work out how you think. Legitimately a solid 2/3rds of the people I know who were homeschooled are now queer as adults and the other 1/3rd are like really kind, accepting, liberal leaning allies.

So just saying… it’s probably not gonna work.

my heart bleeds everyday for the afghan girls and women. they are housebound and have to cover themselves up from top to bottom because they have to "avoid temptation or seduction". they are not allowed to speak in public or appear in public because it is deemed "too intimate." the women can’t look at men. suicide rates have skyrocketed because women and girls would rather be dead than to be a women in afghanistan. it’s not a sin to be a women.

women and girls are denied access to healthcare because they cannot be treated by male doctors, yet they are also barred from education and, therefore, cannot become doctors themselves. shops in afghanistan are even forced to cover up female mannequins. little girls live in fear of becoming child brides, but they dream of being poets, they would kill to get education.

a woman was disqualified from the olympics because she spread the message "free afghan women" at her breakdance performance. there must always be a relative male by their side like women were dogs being treated by their owner, except dogs have more rights than the women suffering.

we must raise awareness, do not look away. these women deserve the opportunities and the human rights that EVERY person does. they are talented, creative and intelligent but men are so scared. scared of women. the taliban tries to erase women. i’m sick. the radical government that feels threatened by women. do not look away.

Every time I see another woman in the math and computer science department, we automatically become best friends as per the rules of being women in male dominated degrees.

Being an adult is crazy. Like what do you mean I can just dye my own hair whenever I want? What do you mean I can eat whatever I feel like? Get a dog? Get more piercings? I just get to do these things without asking permission. But like, I also have a job and I have to schedule my own doctor’s appointments and call my landlord and that’s sad.

At my local target there’s perpetually this crew of weird men advertising phones and because I’m not a normal person I can’t just be like “thanks! I’m not interested today.” So instead for the last year I’ve been panicking and ducking into the baby supply section when I see them lurking by the technology. However, this recently failed me because a random woman asked me how old my baby was (HELP).

It was at this point that I discovered that you can actually sneak behind the salespeople if you stay low and quiet. Today, as I was stealthily tiptoeing through the chargers to avoid the all seeing eye of the phone people, I came across this elderly man who shook his head violently, pointed at the salespeople, and held a finger to his mouth. I nodded emphatically and we parted ways. I have never felt so deeply understood.

Those who the gods wish to destroy, they first make stem majors at small liberal arts colleges so they have to spend FIVE YEARS on a bachelor’s degree because every single class only occurs Jan term of odd years if and only if the fickle hearts of admin favor them and then that class is cancelled because there are only two people who need to take application development and the class for some reason, despite the minuscule size of the school, needs at least 32 students

Realized I’ve been on here for a while and never really posted or introduced myself. I’m Eva (I know my username is Livvy Remmings—it’s kind of pen name and an inside joke I came up with at eleven).

I’m a part time writer, part time library assistant, part time researcher, full time university student, and full time parent to my dog, Addison.

I’m nineteen, a bioinformatics major (hopefully future quantitative ecology PhD), I will read any book if it has sapphics in space, and I always say hi to dogs.

I love poetry and music and art. I’ve developed an addiction to being a fake ass strawberry blonde and I have a deep conviction that I could probably do anything myself (which is why my haircut is uneven).

I have listened to a frightening number of hours of Florence + the Machine’s music and I will continue to do so to the concern of my friends and well wishers.

I’m vegan because I hold a deep affection for cows, chickens, and pigs, and a deeper dread of the smell of seafood.

I live in the Spokane area and you can usually find me and my equally unfit maybe(?) poodle, attempting hikes we are simply not qualified for.

I excel at cooking, making coffee, collecting water-column data, writing mathematical proofs, statistical analysis, and other such womanly hobbies.
