Notebook 2: Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo is a icon for feminism and this because she painted her life experiences as a woman. The reason why I choose her is because she has circulated around two nations and that is in Mexico specifically in Coyoacán where she came from. It has circulated around the United States of America in where you can see her paintings in famous museums. Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907 but changed her birthday to coincides with the Mexican Revolution. The Mexican Revolution was a war which was fought basically to conquer Mexico and for it to be seen as a culture and a state that transformed the government. This was basically the birth of Mexico. When it came to being rebellious about the ideals and rules she always had a thing for that. Her father was ethnic German but she refused to let her nationality be that. Therefore, her real nationality and where she came from was Mexico. One of my favorite quotes by her is this one stating; “I wish I could do whatever I liked behind the curtain of “madness”. Then: I’d arrange flowers, all day long, I’d paint; pain, love and tenderness, I would laugh as much as I feel like at the stupidity of others, and they would all say: “Poor thing, she’s crazy!” (Above all I would laugh at my own stupidity.) I would build my world which while I lived, would be in agreement with all the worlds. The day, or the hour, or the minute that I lived would be mine and everyone else’s - my madness would not be an escape from “reality”’.
