@locksley-alexander-blog
Everything had become so dull lately. Everyone had fallen into their routines. Melody craved excitement. She had a plan. Melody left Locksley a bag filled with goodies. Candy bars, gummy bears, all the good things. But she also included a bag of oreos that she had taken the filling out and replaced it with toothpaste, leaving him with only two ‘safe’ ones.
Locksley was pleasantly surprised to find Mel’s care package at his door. He’d been at a morning seminar, absolutely dreading the reading he had to do for one of his master’s classes and the sweet treats were exactly what he needed to get him through the lot. Once he was set up in his favorite chair, his book on his lap, the treats within reach, and a nice cold soda nearby, he got to work reading. It was boring work but he knew that it would lead to something better. Or hopefully it would. Basically he just hoped it would get his father off of his back, the man had been hard focused on him since he’d gotten to the states and into school. So what if he’d taken an impromptu boat trip with his friends and partied in the Congo with them by night and helped refugees by day. To him, that didn’t sound horrible. Sure, he didn’t exactly tell anyone where he was going but where’s the fun in that.
Aimlessly reading for a cookie, he popped it into his mouth without looking up until he was punched with a completely unexpected mint flavor. Grabbing a tissue from its box, he spit the offending cookie into the napkin and stared around bewildered until he finally had a chance to register what had happened. Tossing the tissue into the trash, he picked up the package of oreos and sniffed them - had he been paying attention he’d have noticed the strong scent immediately. In a way, his distraction had helped her prank land. “Mel,” he scolded the empty apartment with a chuckle, “I really should have listened when Dash said to be careful.”
It wasn’t a rule that men had to spoil their wives rotten with gifts or affection but Hades was just one of those guys that loved to do it. He loved going home and just watching her open up a present, seeing her smile widen once she caught sight of whatever it was this time around. It didn’t happen exactly every day but when he had enough and he thought it was time, he decided that he couldn’t just let the opportunity pass by. As he walked in to the jewelry store he went straight to the bracelet section as he knew he hadn’t gotten one of those in quite awhile. His eyes scanned the accessories in the glass case before pointing at one near the top left corner. “That one,” he said with complete certainty at one of the employees. While he waited for them to come back with his purchase, he heard a voice beside him and smirked at his comment. Hades turned towards the man and shook his head with a small chuckle. “I just love my wife. We never fight.” Except that one time they were both stubborn as all hell still but that doesn’t count.
Locksley caught a glimpse of the bracelet before the employee walked off to wrap it up for the blond man. His response was refreshing. Either there weren’t enough men in this world that spoiled their wives or Locksley just never stood next to the right men when he decided to get curious. “You’re lucky then,” he grinned at the blond before he turned back to the displays where he stood stumped for a few moments. Then an idea came to mind, “hey,” he called out to the man again, “do you like your mother?” The thing about Locksley was that he tended to act as if every person he met was someone he knew. Or at least he tried hard to make sure everyone felt comfortable with him. It didn’t always mean he was liked but he didn’t get the feeling that he was an annoyance in this situation. “If so, what would you get her? I love mine but unfortunately she’s not always the easiest to choose for. You seemed confident in your choice; I see no harm in taking your advice on this topic.”
“It was a bit by chance. The trainer who I sent Dorothy to is French and doesn’t speak a word of English.” She let out a laugh and cocked her head slightly to the side “I could have sent her to a English speaking trainer, but the French trainer is an old family friend and the trained all my family’s dogs. I thought it would be rude not to have her trained by the same person.” Athena observed him while taking a sip of her coffee. She listened to him talk about his homeland never taking her blue eyes off him, but the name of his country sounded familiar. She searched her brain where she had heard it before. And, out of nowhere, she remembered. Flora was the that told her all about the Prydain princess dating an American commoner, even showing her the picture of the girl in a magazine. The brunette laughed “Prydain sounds lovely. Never had the chance to visit it, and now because of you, I shall add it to my list of places to visit.” She flashed a smile before throwing her hair back once again and locking her eyes with his. She read the title of the book and immediately recognized it “Oh! I study International Business. What a coincidence!” She grinned happily. “Is it school the only reason visiting America, or was it one of those times when two ideas work out perfectly?”
“I imagine having all the family dogs trained in the same language must come quite in handy when you’re all gathered in one place,” Locksley offered with a grin, “one word will make the lot of them go still – that is if they’ve retained the training. Though looking at your beauty here, I imagine it must run in the family.” He leaned forward to run his hand over Dorothy’s head affectionately before sitting back in his chair. He missed his family’s dogs perhaps more than he missed most of his family. Mentally, he made a note to see about getting a dog of his own to keep him company, something affectionate and energetic. He nodded, “it is lovely. If you do go, I suggest you take advantage of the early spring festivals for the best time. Then make sure you visit the lakes at night. They shimmer like glass in the night with the clearest skies you’ve ever seen. Tell me, Athena. Are you the type to go camping in the moonlight? Nothing too rough and tumble, of course – I ask because there are quite a few private events hosted by the kingdom that involve lanterns on the water. It’s stunning. The champagne doesn’t hurt either.” His eyes lit up as she found a common thread between them, an amused smirk playing on his lips, “International business is impressive. Do you intend to take over the world with that? I don’t think I’d mind that much at all.” Locksley chuckled, tilting his head slightly as he formed this thoughts into a logical thread, “School isn’t the only reason, no. America is supposedly the land where dreams are made, is it not? I’m here working on my masters but I thought I’d also see what kind of impact I could make on the land.”

“Dash.” The boy replied automatically even though Locksley already knew his name. Locksley he knew he remembered that name, maybe Eilonwy had mentioned him before but the name never stuck on Dash’s memory. “Oh!” he finally recalled where he had heard of him. “She told me about you. I didn’t knew you were coming. Did her father sent you to check on her ? She’s doing great! We’ve been good, I promise. There is no drama around her, I swear.” Dash reassured the guy, he didn’t wanted any trouble with royalty. Even though he knew that beheading was a primitive punishment that was abolished thousand years ago, but a small part of him still feared it. “She is?” Although the girl assure Dash of it almost everyday it was different to hear it from a third person, even better when that third person wasn’t Melody. “I didn’t do anything. I was just visiting my friend who was her roommate back at the school and because of that we met.” He told Locksley the short version of the story. “But I didn’t knew who she was. She was just the pretty roommate of my friend. N-Not that I think she’s just a pretty face. She’s smart, kind and patient.” Dash stammered. “We had to sleep in the same room.” He then realized what he said “But nothing happened ! I-I was sleeping on the floor with my friend Melody. And there’s no weird relationship of friends with benefits. We’re just friends. I’ve known her since she was 12, so she’s like a sister to me.”Dash rambled on and on about pointless things in hopes to make a good impression around Eilonwy friends and family.
"To be fair, she didn't know I was coming either," he shrugged, "though no, I was not sent to keep an eye on anything - though I'm sure the thought went through someone's mind and then they remembered who I was. I took my family's boat to the Congo for a year with friends and stayed there helping with some of the charities. I'm what you would say 'hard to nail down.'" Locksley let out a hearty laugh, putting his arm around Dash's shoulders like they'd been friends for years, "I think my father is more curious to see if I stay put for a while before making any requests to see if the princess is up to no good." He listened to Dash's story as they finally got inside the building. Locksley directed him up the stairs and into his apartment before Dash could remember he had walked up to visit Eilonwy. Besides, it was obvious that the blonde was not quite home from classes, there was no harm in making a new friend. "Are you always this jumpy or are you just afraid of me?" Locksley grinned, grabbing an apple out of the basket on the counter before gesturing back, "you want one? Help yourself." He then draped himself over the armchair, curious eyes focusing on Dash, "I don't need the edited version, Dashy boy. I just want to know how you bagged the princess."
She flashed him a smile “ Pleasure to meet you, Locksley.” She nodded in acceptance. “Dorothy, viens ici.” She called out for the dog, who appeared trotting between the tables, sitting in front of Athena. She sat in across from him, crossing her legs. She licked her lips before speaking again“So, where is that accent from?” She asked curiously, leaning slightly forward. When he gestured to her book she just chuckled “Oh, just for pleasure. Even though I read it many times before.” Athena shrugged, sliding the book back in her bag. The girl politely signaled her waiter that she had moved, and he quickly settled her cup of coffee right in front of her. “Thank you.” She smiled at the waiter before looking back at Locksley. “And what about you ?Reading for pleasure or business?” The girl asked before taking a sip of her coffee.
"Ah, she speaks french," he grinned as he watched the dog approach the table and immediately sit, "and that dog is very well trained. Correct me if I'm completely off, but french wasn't just on a whim was it? If it was, you sound fluent and you should thank your teacher." Locksley sat back more comfortably in his chair, adjusting his posture from one of reading to one of company. "I'm from a small beautiful country named Prydain. Rolling hills, plenty of sheep, rich with culture. I imagine the accent is from there as well," he teased, flashing yet another smile in her direction. Locksley slid his book back into sight and held up the cover for her to see a textbook for one of his graduate classes, "quite literally for business though I do enjoy the subject. Well, I should as it's what I've chosen to study."
Locksley jogged slightly to catch up to the blonde, hailing her with a charming smile, “Excuse me, miss?” He slowed down next to her and held out the fallen object, “you dropped this back there.”

“Yeah… Sure.” Dash didn’t knew this man but he didn’t want him hanging around Eilonwy’s apartment. This thinking wasn’t getting very logic, he was just worried for his loved one and how this guy could creep into her apartment. “You know the blonde ?” Dash asked confused with the man in front of him. What did he wanted with Eilonwy ? Whatever it was Dash wasn’t going to let anything happen. He was told before he was too trusting of people who didn’t deserve that kind of trust and he wasn’t going to let that happen with this new guy. “Wait. What?” Dash was taken by surprise, he didn’t knew how to react “Lock- what ?” He stared at the stranger with an expression of utter confusion “She wouldn’t?”
"Locksley," he repeated with a chuckle, finding amusement in the embodiment of confusion standing before him. His mother had always told him that he was a bit startling and difficult to follow in first impressions. Locksley just took it as a compliment, where's the fun in being easy to follow. "Eilonwy and I go way back. I've known her since childhood, she'd probably say I haven't changed much. I'd say I've probably gotten taller, at least," he grinned. "Oh yea, she's very taken with you my friend. How on earth she managed to back off the king is beyond me - not that I think you're bad. He's just stubborn. She must really like you for that to have worked out.” He swung his arm around Dash’s shoulders and led him to the door to the building, “now tell me, how is it that you went about getting the princess? I’ve been so curious and she was more annoyed at my presence than willing to tell me.”
Locksley spotted the woman he assumed to be in charge at the daycare and made his way inside. Hopefully he wouldn’t be catching her at a bad time or when she was too busy but he didn’t see too many kids so he figured it was an off hour or perhaps it was late in the day. To be honest, he hadn’t quite checked the time after deciding to go out for the day - if he had done something incredibly dumb and showed up as she was closing up, he’d charm his way out of the mistake. “Excuse me, is this your place?” he inquired politely, smiling at the woman. “I was wondering if you might have a job opening or perhaps a volunteer position available?”
The little King Charles Spaniel, Dorothy, sat down next to the table waiting for Athena’s order. “Dorothy, en baisse” And with that the dog laid down. Athena sent Dorothy to be trained by the same french lady who had previously trained Athena’s family dogs. The girl crossed her legs and flipped her hair of her shoulder, eyeing the menu searching something that pleased her “ Coffee, black.” She politely told the waiter, flashing him a smile, settling for a simple cup of coffee. She pulled her book out of her bag as she waited. The brunette opened the book where she had left it the last time, she had read it a thousand times before so it was starting to bore her, she needed something new.Her eyes scanned the perimeter. Her eyes met other pair of blue eyes, he winked at her, there it was, something new. She studied him for second, well dressed, definitely not shy, reading for pleasure, he didn’t seemed to be american and he was handsome. The points just kept adding up. She got up, letting her yellow sundress swish at every step she took towards him. She laughed lightly “The sentiment is exactly the same.” Athena smiled widely “I’m Athena.” she introduced herself offering her hand to him.
Locksley was not a shy man. He was always willing to meet new people and just change his plans on a whim. Today was no different. When he winked at the beautiful brunette, he knew it would either draw her over or just make her feel really good, and who couldn't do with a confidence boost here or there - both outcomes were good enough for him but he was glad she chose to walk over. "Name's Locksley," he shook her offered hand with that same confident grin in place before leaning forward and gesturing to the chair across from his own, "why don't you join me for a cup of coffee? I'm sure your server won't have any trouble finding you over here." He closed his book and slid it to the side so he could leave his full attention on Athena. Curiously looking at her book, he nodded, "what have you got there? Business or pleasure?" Something about her made him think she had plenty of culture, so it was likely the book wouldn't be some obvious fair. Not that the popular things were any less exciting to read, he just assumed that by the look of her - she'd be into something a little bit off the beaten path. However, he could be judging a book by its cover which, if the saying meant anything, meant he'd be wrong.
Locksley had spent the better part of the afternoon going from shop to shop looking for a fine birthday gift for his mother. It was as if she intentionally became more and more difficult to shop for as she aged. Deciding he couldn’t go wrong with some fine jewelry, he found himself milling around the counters looking at the vast offerings. Americans truly knew how to provide options. As he moved to another display, he stopped near a blonde man who seemed to know exactly what he was looking for - as if he’d come in with a plan of sorts. “Getting out of a fight?” Locksley chimed in with a smile, not actually making an assumption about this man but simply making a small joke.
Athena left her house with her little Spaniel, Dorothy, and they both headed to the coffee shop. The brunette sat outside reading a book as she waited for the waiter to bring her order. She often peaked over her book to see the people around and her eyes met the ones of a boy sitting close. She stopped her reading and walked over him. She smiled at “I’m sorry. Have we met before ? You look familiar.”
It had taken a few weeks but thankfully he'd finally moved in to his apartment and set everything how he liked. He'd even enrolled in the Grad program at the local college. Everything was perfect, so he decided to get a jump on his reading for class with allowances for any kind of distraction. He was a diligent student but he was more inclined to have some fun instead. Sitting at a cafe, he settled on the patio and read while occasionally peering around at his surroundings. And suddenly his surrounding became quite beautiful by way of a pair of striking blue eyes. Smirking lightly as their gaze met, he winked and turned back to his book only to find she'd approached not a minute later. "If we have met, I'm kicking myself because I don't seem to remember your name. And I should've remembered."
