What do you think about the current trend of tiny houses? I think they'd work fine as dorm spaces but couldn't be successful homes because of their inability to function as a comfortable social space, I don't think the trend will last much longer.

Tiny houses are reflecting the changing social behavior of a new generation and reacting to the ballooning cost of property in major cities. They are not for everyone but for some is the best solution to the housing problem, specially young adults without kids that enjoy spending their off time in public gathering spaces like in a Starbucks cruising the web. 

Like with most things in life is a 180 degree reaction to the proliferation of McMansions, the type of residence that could hold a couple of families or more. Its a reaction to a culture of consumerism where accumulating stuff is seen as a good thing. 

Sooner or later we will veer towards a more balance solution where its understood that a medium size house or apartment is more than adequate for anyone’s housing needs.
