Hey everyone, wanna share some deets on Zoro's bathing habits!
(I shared this info in the ZS Discord the other day. If you saw it, yep, that was me who wrote it. Back then, I wasn’t really used to posting stuff on social media, but today I figure I can post it on Tumblr too—hoping more people get to see this.)
First, quick cultural note: In Japanese, シャワー (shower) = quick rinse, while 風呂 (furo) = soaking in a tub—way more formal and time-consuming.
Back in Volume 67's SBS, a fan asked about the crew's bathing frequency. The original question mentioned the latter 風呂(furo), stating: "In 654, Chopper says, "I wiped my body the day before yesterday," and declines Nami's invitation to take a 風呂furo bath, right? I'm also curious about the Straw Hats' bathing habits." So Oda's answer likely refers to how often the crew takes a 風呂furo (bathtub bath) per week.
Then in One Piece Magazine No. 18(page 65)—it says Zoro trains nonstop (even when others chill/eat snacks!) and sweats a ton. The magazine uses a typical SBS-style question here: "Does he only take a showerシャワー , or does he also soak in the bathtub?" It then adds, "Taking a bath風呂(furo) is part of routine after training too."
Fanfics usually stick to what’s in the SBS from Volume 67, but I think it’s time for that to change—Zoro's the guy who bathes right after working out.😂
The Japanese expression is a bit ambiguous, but one thing’s for sure—Zoro definitely takes a showerシャワー after working out, and soaking in a tub風呂 (furo) is also one of his options.
English isn't my first language, so idk if there's already convo about this—I haven't seen any tho.
Noticed this because I’m a Zosan shipper—and every time I see fanfics mention Zoro’s bathing frequency, I can’t help but feel sorry for Sanji. So I wanted to sort out some of the issues caused by cultural differences here. Like I said, I hope other Zosan shippers notice this, which is why I added Zosan-related tags. Fingers crossed it doesn’t bother anyone.
Also, I made translations for SBS and One Piece Magazine NO.18 stuff. (Rn I only have the magazine on me—the pic is one I took. The SBS info is from this site: https://onepiece-log.com/blog-entry-1397.html)
